Division IV Region 14

I'm still stuck on Orrville's thoughts on tradition. My Grandfather played on one of the very first Genoa football teams. My Dad played for Genoa, and so did I, not to mention several uncles, cousins, etc, just like Orrville. It's pretty much the same anywhere in small - town Ohio. I moved to Oak Harbor's district many years ago ( OH's district borders Genoa's ) and now my son plays for the Rockets and I support them and the SBC fully. It's my hope that my son will carry on a new tradition for our family and raise a bunch of Rockets ! Again, I don't agree with a lot of Genoa's on - field antics, but tradition ? Yeah, they got it, and so does every school around here.

    Probably a fair point.

Maybe "winning" tradition is the missing word. We have that too.....since 1960 (that's 50 years)....we've had 6 losing seasons of football....and the 20 playoffs appearances that's top 10 among public schools, and 4 state final appearances.

And I think we're hard on Genoa for their soft schedule because we fought that reputation in the late 80's....lots of 9-1 and 10-0 teams, but a lot of 1-and-done's in the playoffs too. The old All-Ohio League wasn't preparing us for post-season in it's latter days.

Good point Red Rider1. Genoa can't help that their leaugue opponents AND OOC opponents have had some down years at the same time Genoa had some of their best teams. The scheduling of USV for an open spot makes zero sense to me. Play someone more on your caliber, even if you lose. 9-1 vs good teams is better than 10-0 against all cupcakes. There is a reason the " Sorry Lakes League " is disbanding after this year.
  • RedRider1
....this is why we can (and have) made the playoffs with 7-3 or even 6-4 records....and why it elicited snickering from Comet fans last year.

    10-0 doesn't mean you're good. Same as 7-3 doesn't mean you're bad.

We play several playoff caliber teams each and every year...and have been in close games or games with playoff atmospheres every week. If we're fortunate to be playing in week 11...that "playoff" pressure wont be an issue.

By week 5...most teams are in a league, so the list of teams with open dates this week was probably pretty small.

Finally a person from Genoa who has a little common sense! Thank you Rocketsfan. very good points today! Of course going 9-1 or 10-0 every year is pretty good, but doing it against a cupcake schedule does not mean anything. I would rather go 7-3 and go to the regional finals than being 10-1.

LOL, Let me make this abundantly clear...I was born and raised through high school in Genoa's district, but am from Oak Harbor now !
  • OQB
Lol well than Oak Harbor taught you well!!

I remember after all the trash talk last year, many were laughing when the Genoa kids laid on the ground for a while after the game had ended. But that was one of the best comeback attempts I've seen. But still there's one better - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHkABO0VwCg This is a new season, though. If Genoa and Orrville meet again this year, who knows what happens. Maybe Genoa forces a few Red Rider turnovers and gets the victory. That's why they play the game.

Good luck to all Region 14 schools! It looks like Drew Pasteur has my Titans out at #9 right now. We'll need to convince him... :)

    I see clickclickboom..... :)

Oh man that's really going to stir them up now!!

I'm just trying to remember if that picture came before or after the Genoa player grabbing his junk towards the Orrville fans.

As an outsider who has zero ties to either Genoa or Orville it is amusing reading these posts. Yes Genoa has it's fair share of cocky fans but there are plenty of Orville ones on this thread as well. I was at the playoff game just wanting to watch a good high school football game. All this talk from Orville on how they were the better team must have forgot they won by 1 point. Again from an unbiased view Orville looked better in the first half and Genoa looked better in the 2nd half. Yes Orville won by 1 point but it looked like if they played that game 10 times that Orville could win 5 and Genoa could win 5. Yes they won and that is all that matters but Orville was not hands down the better team like everyone is saying here.

    Carry on.....

I think many would agree with these comments.

^ I think you would be lucky if you got more than 1 Genoa fan to agree with that!

This was before...you can see one of the kids heading for the handshake line.

As #30 exited the handshake line, he made the little gesture towards our fans (for the 2nd time in the game). Little less attention in the stands, little more focus on the field.

    Against Genoa, Orrville.....
    1) beat an undefeated team
    2) Held them to 25 points under their average (Average was 59.9 coming into the game)
    3) scored 36 points against a defense allowing 2.4 on average

Who cares if it was 1 point.

LOVE THE PIC!!!! Carry on with the diatribe!

This thread is like the OC groundhog just saw his shadow.....we have at least five more weeks of this.

    Feels like old times......

Just needed the right combination of factors to whip us Orrville folk up into a lather.

alright now...since we are all giving our opinions and re-hashing the game...let's remember Orrville was in Control of this entire from the opening Kick off. Took it drove 8 minutes and scored. Got the ball again and scored and went into half up something, like 26-8. We go into the 4th still up 14 and basically had reeled in the Offense to eat some clock and get onto next week. Genoa scores to get within 7 and on the ensuing kick off we kick the thing around and they recover it in the end zone to pull within one. So...yeah the game was one point but it is not like it was nip and tuck the whole way and we "lucked out of there with a win "......let's all be honest now. They had absolutely no answer for Sam Miller and if they would have pulled guys out of the box to cover the outside we would have run on them....let's be honest now...

Yep, when RR1 gets into the fray, then you know we have a "real deal" going on! Nice to see some of the "common sense" Genoa fans jumping on here (and, bwcomet89, I liked your comment directed toward me! :-) ). 5knots gives a good re-cap from our perspective. IF, we had not fumbled that kick in the end zone, then we could probably say that blah blah and all that. But we don't. You will NEVER hear a Red Rider fan say that the better team lost. That would be absurd and not part of our vocabulary. We DID respect your team by knowing we were up against a really tough opponent and preparing for a great battle, both physically AND MENTALLY, which for the latter part many of your posters contributed to. We were a little bit scared, too (and that's respect). But the mental preparation put us over that. Many of our fans posted their congrats to your team for being a tough opponent. That's respect. As far as losing to OG, we missed an XP, many say "if only", but we don't dwell on how many times out of 10 one would win over the other. It's pointless. We lost and move on because we have been on both sides of the coin on deals like that. I guess it's hard to fathom that kind of attitude about the game when you are winning regular season games by 60 points.

The league is disbanding? Any followup on what leagues all the SLL teams will be in ?

All of them except Gibsonburg. Fostoria and Rossford are coming into the league. It's gonna be called the Northern Buckeye Conference.

Anyways I like how both Orrville and Genoa's fanbases are trying to discredit each other but honestly none of us matter. I'm kinda convinced that Ottawa Glandorf is gonna run thru this region
