clickclickboom, you may want to rethink that statement, most of these guys on here could be your father, and have seen SO MUCH MORE FOOTBALL THAN YOU. One thing you don't realize is that Calpreps just looks at the scores of your previous games to figure out a prediction . So of course you are going to be favored to win because you guys don't play quality opponents and just show how unsportsmanlike you are and run the score up on every division 5 and 6 school you play.
It's 5-1 right here, I wouldn't want to keep this ridiculous argument against the tradition and better team between Orrville and Genoa.
You guys have had great success the last 3 years , no doubt about that. But what happens when you play a quality opponent.....YOU LOSE!!! Just live with it, I have never seen a person who is still in denial from a game that happened a year ago, maybe you guys were the better "TEAM" with all those candlelight heart to hearts, I'm sure a lot of male bonding goes on there (don't want to get into any more of that though) But last year in Ashland, Orrville was the BETTER TEAM WITH BETTER TALENT PERIOD!!! -
OQBOH, and BRF is a history teacher, so don't get him started on slavery.

So taking calpreps, whoever HE is and his predictions, and last years actual result, means his other 3 predictions are just as shaky and are canceled out by the actual on field result. You and massillon and the paper tigers are such champions, probably 22 times per calprep. What next a Genoa fan's poll to say 9 of 10 fans think they are better? -

OQBYou are really tempting me to start a thread/poll on what fans think about the Genoa fans and football program.... I bet my life more people have negative things to say than positive...
WE HAVE HISTORY TO BACK UP OUR ARGUMENT AGAINST YOU, WHAT DOES GENOA HAVE? THE LAST THREE YEARS, WHICH INCLUDES LOSSES TO ALL QUALITY OPPONENTS YOU HAVE PLAYED. -

HAHA, I'm sure if his parents were on here they may be second guessing themselves. -
OQBI wonder what would happen if you played a division II or III school, anyone could have the scoring and records you have had the past few years if they played the cupcake JV schedule you play.

We should find out this week in their last non-league matchup of the year.
Oh wait, they scheduled a division 6 team. -
riders1Yes and their last 6 opponents have a total of 9 wins! and one team with a winning record!

bwcomet89Quick tip to clickclickboom and flagman61, what should be rule number one on a message forum: grow think skin. There are and will be several posters on this website that have different opinions than you and will fight you to protect their opinions, even though they are merely personal. There isn't a single person on here that know all about both Genoa and Orrville and can give a completely unbiased opinion about the two schools. Chances are most Orrville posters didn't even know Genoa existed prior to 2009. Same thing goes for Genoa.
This banter does actually remind me of the peacocks at my second job. They will occasionally see their reflection and attack it because they think the bird on the other side is too colorful and boistrous.
As for the argument, I'll feel free to stay out of it. I'm more than convinced that there is nothing I can say that will make any Orrville fan say "Gee I didn't think of it that way, maybe I'm wrong." However I will say that Genoa already has a good tradition and a healthy program. Beating Orrville is not the measuring stick for what makes a good program. -

I know the kid outside this forum and if I was related to him I'd be damn proud to be. Last time I checked talking about abortion so loosely and insinuating that an individual should be dead for not agreeing with you isn't exactly well thought-out. You can go ahead and post whatever you want, but in my humble opinion that's a low blow towards someone defending his alum. -

First off, I will bet money on it that a lot of people on here know all about Orrville football, that is because of the tradition and succuss we have had in high profile playoff games against other excellent football programs, you are one person and can not speak for everyone on this site. As for me, I did know about Genoa before last year because I am a highly educated high school football fan, and know a lot of things most fans do not know. What you guys have done the past few years is pretty impressive....yes you have dominated everyone in the regular season, and yes you can say we can't get out of our league to join a better one. But you are a division IV team that is playing teams in div V and VI, so you should be dominating in the regular season. As for the Genoa football program, it has not had much success before Vicars got there, so the past few years you guys have had a lot of success, and very rightly shoulf be proud of that, nobody is taking away your records the past few years, but lets look at the past decade what you have done:
From 1990-1999 you had no playoff appearances, even though you finished in the top 8 twice (94, 98) that was before they started taking 8 per region.
2000; 3-7 no playoffs
2001; 1-9 no playoffs
2002; 7-3 no playoffs
2003; 1-9 no playoffs
2004; 2-8 no playoffs
2005; 3-7 no playoffs
2006; 3-7 no playoffs
2007; 9-1 1-1 in playoffs
2008; 10-0 3-1 in playoffs (state semis)
2009; 10-0 1-1 iin playoffs
2010; 4-0...?
in the 2000's
Genoa is 49-51
Orrville is 57-42
So what this tells us is that in the last 20 years, Genoa has made the playoffs a total of 3 times, and their record in those games has been 5-3 with 1 Regional Championship and a state semi appearance.
In that same time period, Orrville has made the playoffs 1990 9th, 1992 10th, 1994 11th, 1995 12th, 1997 13th, 1998 14th, 1999 15th, 2003 16th, 2004 17th, 2005 18th, 2006 19th, 2009 20th, for a total of 12 trips; in 1996 we were 8-2 but due to a player being ineligible, we had to forfeit 2 games so the record was 6-4 and were not in the playoffs). That is 4 times the amount of Genoa.
In those playoff appearances Orrville has managed to go to;
Regional final trips: 6
State Semi Appearances: 4
State Chamionship Appearances: 2
State Championships: 1
During that same span the overall record has been 129-71 with a playoff record of 17-11.
That is a football program. Genoa is on the right track to having a very successful, and well respected football program (if the players stop getting unsportsmanlike penalties, stop giving obscene gestures to fans, and being arrogant fans),but due to the lack of playoff appearances, playoff wins, and success over the past 20 or so years, Genoa is still trying to make a name for themselves. I guess what I am trying to say is 3 years does not make a football program! Facts are facts and they do not lie. Make it to a few state championships, maybe even win one or two, and have more than a few years of success, then we can talk about comparing football programs, but unitl then Orrville is the better "program" and team by far and we proved that to you last year. -
RocketsfanMy biggest issue with the current Genoa regime is all the personal foul penalties, taunting, etc. Even the NFL is cracking down on that stuff. As a high school coach, I don't know how you can possibly allow your players to do that BS game after game. I believe Coach Vicars has lost TONS of respect for allowing that to happen. JMHO.
To the Orrville faithful in regards to traditon. Genoa has a long, storied football history as do many school here in Ohio. Post season wins or losses do not make or break a teams tradition. I'm showing my age here, but some of the Genoa teams in the early 70s were downright scary to watch ! -
5knotsJust so you Genoa faithful realize...this all started last year with one prediction after the other about how this would not even be close...Orrville was 7-3! What! How do you even make the playoffs! What! See...there was the problem. Very few Genoa fans took the time to learn about Red Riders and what kind of football we have been playing for more than 100 YEARS here. On the other hand Orrville had respect for Genoa's accomplishments but not awe. We realized the schedule may be soft, but you were dominant, no doubt. We respected that and said this will be a good game because something was going good in Genoa. No, No, No, you would have none of that....."at least 4 scores" ...."over by 3rd quarter".....etc, etc...WHAT!!!!! Were you nuts? Confidence is one thing.....and we had that.....cockiness is another beast.....and we play tough teams every week, we cannot afford to waste time on cockiness. I do hope we get a chance to meet again because it will be another classic......until we can get to week 11 we have 4-5 classics to play yet....starting with DII Mansfield Senior 3-1 this week.

RedRider1Genoa folk...
Read this.
http://www.redridersportsblog.com/2009/11/week-12-div-iv-regional-semifinal-2.html
I wrote this leading up to the game last year. Think it puts the finger on the pulse of the Orrville team and community leading up to that game.
We had respect....but not awe. We've been told many times to not show up for playoff games. It was nothing new to us. -
5knotsSo.... in short...What other teams want from you is mutual respect. Not boastful predictions and then when the game is done..and you lost....I think 1 guy had the nads to come back on the forum and say something positive about the Riders. That all left a sour taste in our mouths.....but I would rather have a sour taste in my mouth than crow in my stomach.......OH I am sorry.....I could not resist that...all in fun. I know I am one Red Rider fan than realizes Coach Vicars has a small juggernaut going up there in NW Ohio....we would relish the opportunity to see how we match up again.

They're the most accurate ranking system Ohio has.clickclickboom;491622 wrote:Oh and computer rankings are the most pointless rankings in the world..
But I guess since it takes into account the strength of the teams you beat, it's not a favorite in Genoa....and for obvious reasons.
I'm sure you'd rather the rankings focus on margin of victory over D-6 teams.
Congrats on #7 in the AP poll. But remember, you were top 5 at the end of 2009 in the AP...and look where it got you. If you want to talk about meaningless polls...start there.
AP poll ranking is good for patches on letter jackets, but that's it. -
5knotsLoved the link on the Genoa game. I will be smiling all day RR1.
-
RedRider1^^That was the common theme wasn't it. We respected them, but knew we could beat them...we knew their talent was good....but against very suspect competition.
We had similar talent and played a much tougher schedule....and it paid off.
When you have the TRADITION that we do, you've played all kinds of programs and see all kinds of goliaths. They were just another. -
5knotsI'm tingling! haha
-
birddog23Not an Orrville follower nor a Comet follower but on thing that I cant seem to grasp is all this tradition talk. One Red Rider posted something about the 100 years of tradition they have had and a Comet said something along the lines of the great teams Genoa had in the 70's.
My point is that the kids playing NOW dont give a hoot what happened 3 years ago much less 100 years. They play for the team now and having a good team 5 years ago means nothing to the kids now.
Sure Orrville has been good but thats in the past and its all about the NOW! -
thePITman^^ Umm, I disagree. I am not an Orrville fan by any stretch of the imagination; but I follow all their athletics, and I can tell you that these kids DO think about that stuff. All their community thinks about is athletics. Orrville is a sports town. Period. (Well, they make jelly, too!) Tradition is something they hold near and dear to their heart and something they will cram down anyone's throat whenever they get the chance or think they are being disrespected. It's just how they roll. But their kids back it up, so they can (well, they DO) talk trash as much as they want. Well, it's not TRASH, per se, but they do tend to be quite cocky. Or is it swagger? Or are they one in the same? But that's beside the point. Orrville is all about their tradition, upholding that tradition, and making sure everyone in the world knows they have tradition.
-
5knotsbirddog I would disagree with you on that. Our "Tradition" may not suit up and play on Friday night, but that tradition is a very integral part of how we prepare and play. I understand your point, and if you were not a part of the JJhuddle thread last year you would not understand the bantering still going on. Say Cardinal Mooney is down for a couple years on talent...it is still Cardinal Mooney and those kids grew up expecting to win...you cannot discount that. Our kids have been growing up expecting to win for more than 100 years here...we still have players 90 years old speak to them about what it still means to them being a part of that "Tradition". If you have never experienced a community like that you would not understand. Take my word for it as a former kid/player and current parent....the tradition is a very tangible thing here.
-
CCRollyTradition means a lot more than some people give it credit for. Hell...when Bobby Knight talked at Orrville High School on Sunday night, he still talked about wanting to beat Wooster (Orrville's rival). A lot of kids growing up can't wait to put that uniform on and continue the winning tradition.
-
5knotsAmen CC. i was in Woo last night and excited about the fact that people over there are excited about football again. Week 10 could very well be a very meaningful game for a lot of reasons. 100th game.....OCC implications......playoff implications for both schools....wouldn't that be great! And on top of that I think our QB is your Coach Mcreary's nephew!
