No teams in the region play tougher schedules than Elyria Catholic and Orrville.
What, we play a tougher schedule than triway :) Maybe that's what makes a difference in a game like last night and in weeks 11 thru 15.

...and Orrville's 20 playoff apperances has to be the most of all teams in the region. Here is hoping history repeats itself once again!

It's hard to compare Genoa this year to last year but alot of their young players are stepping up and outscoring their first four opponents 180-13 shows their defense is strong. Woodmore had the ball inside the 10 twice and came away empty both times. The only thing that is a question at this point is strength of opponents. Oak Harbor is the real deal and Genoa found a way to win that one. Only time will tell at this point.

A three point win over a winless Perkins is hardly qualification for being the real deal.
They might compete for the SBC only because it is down this year which might give Genoa some points.

    Genoa should be beating division 4-6 schools. If Orrville played in the WCAL (wayne county athletic league, which is about the exact same league as Genoa's) which is comprised of;
    Doylestown D IV
    Smithville DV
    Waynedale DV
    Hillsdale DV
    Northwestern DV
    Norwayne DV
    Rittman DVI
    Dalton DVI

They would go 9-1/10-0 every year and score 50 points a game, but when it comes playoff time you need those games against good Div. II and III schools. Not many public Div. IV schools play a tougher schedule than Orrville. All opponents are Div II and III, with two being big Div IV schools (on the verge of being Div III). We take pride in playing bigger faster stronger schools, and when we beat them, it makes us that much better.

Genoa's conference/schedule really holds them back from being a really great football team.

Genoa had 31 points scored on them last year through 11 games....and Orrville put up 36 points in one game against them.

Their schedule does NOTHING to prepare them for post-season. There's no one in their way this year...so they'll go 10-0, probably win in round 1 and then have to face Elyria Cath., Orrville or O-G in round 2 and that'll be the end of them.

No one left on their schedule with a winning record....but plenty of D-4, 5 and 6 schools.

Here's a quote from last night, after Genoa's 57-0 win over some cupcake....by Genoa's Seth Dufendock (remember him, he was the one who got LIT UP on an Orrville punt return)

""It's just heart and determination," Dufendock said. "We gave up 24 points last year."

Too funny.....not counting the 36 Orrville scored on them. Guess they block out the bad memories.

I'd love nothing more than to rematch with them.

HAHA, the coached told them to forget about that loss during their weekly candlelight heart to heart talks.

I wonder if any of their players have given obscene gestures to opposing teams yet, or if they just save that for the playoffs.

This comes from a Woodmore parent about last week's game vs Genoa. I was told Genoa stayed for over an hour " tail - gating " in Woodmore's parking lot and leaving trash all over the place. When confronted by Woodmore parents the players and coaches were very rude to say the least. Many, many personal foul penalties during the game which was also the case when Oak Harbor played Genoa. There is no doubt the boys from Genoa can play some football but the lack of sportsmanship is what really casts a shadow over the program. I look for Coach Vicars to jump ship soon and look for greener pastures once again. Genoa will make the playoffs but I expect an early exit this year. My opinion and nothing else.

Since the Oak Harbor vs Perkins game was brought up, here is my view of it. Perkins came out with a new offense and our D struggled in the first half with it. Adjustments were made and the win secured in the 2nd half. For sure a wake up call for the Rockets who are thinking a playoff berth at this point. Perkins is the best winless team out there. If anyone doubts Oak Harbor is for real, just ask Eastwood...

Vicars should have "jumped" ship when St Marys came calling the other year...

The strength of schedule thing only works if you are able to knock own a couple giants along the way. There is a down side to a schedule like Orrville's. No chances to be off your game. You look down the schedule and maybe see 1 team that would be considered a situation where you could play sub par and sneak out with a win. All the rest...just because of their size and numbers can not only beat you, but rough you up a bit as well. Double edged sword thing. It does prepare you well for playoff football.....if you can get there....and if you can get there healthy!

Ottawa-Glandorf in a big win over Kenton this past Friday...Sounds like their DC came up with a brillant deffensive scheme to shut down Kenton's high powered spread.

Lets face it, Eastwood just isnt that great this year...

I guess in Woodmore sportsmanship is soaking the field for 2 days to try to slow down a speedy team, also having no seating for the visiting fans, forcing our coach to stand in the bleachers in the middle of the fans with a terrible view of the field with his headset on and making us use a generator to run our camera to film the game. Oh and before I forget forcing the players and the media off the field interupting interviews which these kids earned by playing a great game. One thing that all of you should know we are a family and whether we go 10 and 0 or 0 and 10 doesn't change that, making the playoffs is an honor that we would like to get and if we do we will go one game at a time and play our best. As for last year since all you Orrville folks want to live in the past, congrats on your win over us but remember you were part of one of the fiercest comebacks in high school football and although we fell 1 point short why not give a little credit where it is due. Alot of teams would have lost heart after the self destructive first half, but we came back with all we had and almost overcame it. By the way it wasn't tailgating, the parents were feeding the team as we do every game before the bus ride home.

    +1. LOL

We are building a tradition here and for some reason people don't like that with all of the winning seasons and playoff appearances you guys have had do you find the hate the winner attitude. Does it just go with the territory? And by the way might be a noob here but been on jjhuddle for almost 2 years.

Let me help the new Guy out here......
I am not an Orrville fan so this is completely unbiased
......this is an argument you cannot win new guy. Until you accept that as a facts you will continue to be frustrated. Just let it go grasshopper.
  • theflagman61
Not trying to win an argument just trying to talk some football, but then again the only thing that matters is what happens on the field. We have some fun with this but the kids play the games and they settle the arguments there.

Seems like Woodmore better tighten up their facilities. Can't have coaches standing in the bleachers and fields being soaked for 2 days........
  • bwcomet89
Haters gonna hate lol. Good luck to Orrville for the rest of the season and I hope they have a deserving playoff run. In my opinion, I still like Ottawa Glandorf to win this division. They have experience, depth, and just beat the AP #1 ranked D4 team in Kenton. It's hard to find holes in this year's OG team.

If I was an AD you better be damn sure I'd take any means I could to give my team an advantage. If I have to flood my field, grow the grass long, or paint the opponent's locker room pink, so be it. It's homefield advantage. Also, Woodmore has had the same facility for years. Everyone deals with it.

My post was tongue in cheek. I don't believe for one second that Genoa's coach had to stand in the bleachers? That doesn't make sense at all. I haven't been to a game at Woodmore in a looooooong time, but I don't really recall them being that terrible either.
