Division IV Region 14

You wondered why they left did you not? You didn't acknowledge it so I was just making sure your question was answered.

Thank you very much for answering it for me!

Ottawa Glandorf "barely squeaked by" the AP #1 ranked D4 team in Kenton. Like you preach, a win is still a win. Whether it's by 2 or 50(or 1 :D ) They were the better team that night and it's all that matters. Also I think it's a little left field to guarantee victory over Kenton if you play with 0 down linemen lol. Sure OG did it, but they have also showed they can find ways to beat various teams across the state in the past years. That doesn't mean any team could do it. Give credit where it's due, and although they haven't played a meatgrinder schedule, it's coming. The WBL is arguably one of the most competitive leagues in the state.

I wasn't discrediting O-G's win over Kenton, merely saying it is pretty easy to stop a one dimensional team when you have a good defense. Which is what O-G has! And yes they did "barely squeak by" the game ended 22-20, I would say that IS "barely squeaking by!" Time will tell how O-G, EC, Genoa, Huron, and Orrville and the rest of this region do this season. We are playing with a sophomore QB right now who is learning on the fly (but is doing a great job for us this year), anything is possible though at this point. Yes we are 3-1, but we could just as easily be 1-3 or even 4-0 if it weren't for a few big plays. O-G and EC are the top teams (Right Now) in this region.

You never know what could happen on any Friday night because 17 and 18 year old kids give it their all out on that field and truely have a passion for the game, and that is why I love High School Football!!

Huron plays Clyde tonight and that will tell a lot about Huron's future. They played very well last week and beat Edison ( also in Region 14 ). If Huron gets by Clyde, I'd be a little nervous if I were Genoa. Huron has some payback to give from a few years ago.

I think he was saying "barely squeaked by" with tongue-in-cheek since when anyone says Orrville "barely squeaked by" Genoa last year by 1 point, every Red Rider fan gets up in arms saying "the better team won, and get over it." I could be wrong of his intentions.

    Go Titans! (from Triway)

So let's see if i have it right...

Orrville beats Genoa by 1 = we got lucky and barely won

OG beats Orrville by 1 = they "showed us whats up"

So....I guess we "showed Genoa what's up" too then, right??

It all boils down to mutual respect and when a poster makes a statement like some team is going to dominate an entire region it upsets some folks...ahem...me. I am an Orrville supporter. We had a pretty good team last year and we have a pretty good team this year. If we are on the field vs you it will be a game...that's the way we play. We may not win.....but you will not "Run" over us. To the guy who said OG would "run" thru the region.....watch the game film from OG vs Orrville. Nuff said. 2 great teams battling...as it would be again. If you want to stick by your comment....oohh baby I cannot wait for a chance to show you different. Good luck to the Region tonight! I'll be checking scoresl later. If you know one, how about throwing it on the thread? Thanks

Lol easy to stop a one dimensional team? Ha they put up 50 on Coldwater who is a great defensive ball club. It really is not that easy to stop a one dimensional team when they have the firepower Kenton does but nice try. Also you say that they can't win in the playoffs yet at the same time since the turn of the millenium they have won 2 state championships and 1 state runner up
  • RedRider1
Coldwater's 2 losses have seen them give up an average of 44 points per game

They've been a tremendous program, but they're not the same Coldwater this year. Both losses to very good teams though. They've got Versailles tonight, Marion Local and DSJ left. Those 3 games will make or break their season.

Kenton is a tremendous system....with the right athletes, they create mismatches with everyone.

What has Matt mauk won besides regular season games...nothing.

I figured it was a typo the first time so I didn't say anything, but it's Maty Mauk. But I'm totally with you - he's done nothing of real substance as of yet. He/they are just popular because of the system he's in that his dad has put in place to give him big numbers... BUT he is still a VERY talented player! Very!

Yeah, my last post was a little tongue in cheek because I'm trying to have a little fun on this thread. There's no need to be so defensive every post and hardcore defend your team, when there isn't a lot of offense coming at you. You may percieve it as that, but how much could some guy sitting at his computer 130 miles away hurt you?

Coldwater, as before mentioned, is nothing like they used to be. They graduated several key players, and lost one of the greatest coaches in Ohio history. Many could argue, and I would support it, that in high school sports a team is only as good as their coach. Still a good team, and since they're in the MAC they will have to be good again, but still a shadow of what they once were.
  • OQB
Bwcomet, exactly. Yes Coldwater is Coldwater, but they are down this year and rightfully so, they lost a heck of a great Christian man. And coach.

Tonight's games in the order of current R14 standings:

Elyria Catholic hosts St. Thomas Aquinas (DV, 2-2)
Genoa Area is at Upper Scioto Valley (DVI, 2-2)
Orrville hosts Mansfield Senior (DII, 3-1)
Clear Fork hosts Lexington (DII, 3-1)
Ottawa-Glandorf is at Wapakoneta (DII, 3-1)
Galion is at Columbian (DIII, 3-1)
Huron is at Clyde (DIII, 4-0)
Edison hosts Port Clinton (DIV, 2-2)
    Triway hosts CVCA (DIV, 2-2)
Bucyrus is at Buckeye Central (DVI, 4-0)
Van Wert is at Celina (DIII, 3-1)
    Clearview hosts Buckeye (DIII, 1-3)

Below are my thoughts on some/most of these games and what I think they mean in the grand scheme of Region 14: (my comments are not based on statistical probability since it's far too early for that, but more on expectations depending on this week's results)

Orrville hosts Mansfield Senior (DII, 3-1)
If Orrville wins, they all but lock up a home game, IMO, especially with more DII/DIII teams on their schedule for which winning this game would make them the favorite.

Clear Fork hosts Lexington (DII, 3-1)
I am not convinced yet that Clear Fork is as good as Orrville, but winning this game would make a big statement and put the Colts in the OCC championship discussion with Orrville and Ashland. A win locks them for the playoffs, IMO.

Ottawa-Glandorf is at Wapakoneta (DII, 3-1)
The only DII team on OG's schedule. Many more 3-1 teams to go, but some good points here (as long as Wapakoneta keeps winning). If OG wins this game they're shooting for a 2-4 seed with my early predictions... but that's nothing new, so we'll come back in week 10 and see 9-1 or 10-0 OG hosting a playoff game.

Galion is at Columbian (DIII, 3-1)
How good is Galion? We'll find out! This game (and next week's against DII 3-1 Shelby) are HUGE for them if they wish to make it into the playoffs. Lose both and they're out. Win one and they'll be trying to hang on. Win both and they're in.

Huron is at Clyde (DIII, 4-0)
This is absolutely huge game for Huron and possibly a must-win for them depending on how those around them in the standings do in the coming weeks.

    Triway hosts CVCA (DIV, 2-2)
Triway will be favored in all but one game the rest of the season (@ Manchester). They'll need to win all those favored games, and this is one of them against a disciplined and well-coached CVCA team with a dominant running game. Lose and they're out, IMO.

Bucyrus is at Buckeye Central (DVI, 4-0)
Van Wert is at Celina (DIII, 3-1)
Not many point-padders on the remaining schedule for either of these teams; so if they want to make up room and be a factor in weeks 8-10, this could be considered a must-win for them.

Look at my boy giving that nice result list. That's why I popped in here and, voila', there it is! BTW, just out of curiousity, what was the Genoa score? Us, we only won by 14 (28-14).
  • THE4RINGZ
Nice win tonight for the Riders.
  • OQB
Well they were up like 47-10 with a little time left so I haven't seen the actual final score, just assuming the freshman comets didn't give up that huge lead! :D

I am still laughing about this:

    EC stays at #1

    Genoa 3
    Clear Fork 4

Good week for the OCC teams. That Orr/CF game in week 9 could be for a home game....just like last year. Plenty of time between now and then.
