Also saw where Philly is physically removing people from public transport for not wearing a mask. What in the world.

They indicated 2 million or more deaths; and maybe 1 million with mitigation.  Then they said maybe 240,000 deaths; then 100,000 to 200,000.  Now it may be 60,000.  My point is their modeling is poor, piss poor, and it led to much more panic than necessary, not to mention much more spending than likely warranted, and much, much more economic destruction than necessary.  We know who needs to be quarantined; they should handle it from there.

You've tracked it right, but they're just updated estimates based on the progress resulting from the measures.  You can't fault someone for that.  That's how estimates work.  They base them on the current circumstances and update them as models dictate.

Now, as for the money spent, and MAYBE some of the economic measures, sure.

However, no. We don't "know who needs to be quarantined."  It takes too long to even know who is infected.  That's part of the problem.

Who exactly should be quarantined? Would you lump yourself into that group?

Everyone age X and older? All obsese people? Diabetics? Ashmatic? Who cares for these people? Gets them groceries and other supplies? Do you seal them off in their homes?

I'm sure he's healthy as a horse and not in his own determination of who needs to be quarantined.  It's like where people draw the line on "bad" people.  They'll always draw that line below themselves.

Doesn’t it just phase down after $150k? Or is it cut off?

  • If you're a single US resident and have an adjusted gross income less than $99,000
  • If you file as the head of a household and earn under $146,500
  • If you file jointly without children and earn less than $198,000

A single US resident must have a Social Security number and an AGI under $75,000 to receive the full amount of $1,200. The sum decreases as your AGI goes up. If your adjusted gross income reaches $99,000, you won't be eligible for the stimulus.

Did you file a 2019 return? That’s what they’ll go off, not 2018. If you haven’t filed in 2019 yet, then yes it’s 2018.

All logical points, but being given to a very illogical person. Quaker ONLY looks at things from a poli-bias stance, so everything he personally disagrees with can be a liberal conspiracy (even if a conservative is heavily involved; like I said, a very illogical person). So things like how Ohio is doing a lot better than most (if not all) the more densely populated states as far as slowing the spread somehow can be turned from a positive to a negative because, as he's pointed out, Dr. Acton is a filthy demmy. And every right-wing "overblown/hoax" talking point is the only real thing that matters because they "get it". And so on until you realize that actually talking/debating with him is a waste of time and if anyone deserves "OK BOOMER'd" into irrelevance, it's someone like him.

You'd think another 3 weeks should practically eliminate it.  But I'm not sure.  What if this doesn't go away, or what if it comes back during flu season?

Also, why can't they speed up the vaccine trials?  I understand the reason it takes so long, but what other option do we have if this doesn't go away?  Why not have the govt fund the trials, and then recruit volunteers to go right to Stage 3 trials and isolate them from the general population on the minute chance you've created some sort of frankenvirus?  We could have a vaccine by the end of summer, and we could provide hazard pay for the guinea pigs for a tiny fraction of the economic cost to quarantine a nation.  Again, I understand the risks but it seems like vaccines would be less risky than other unproven pharmaceuticals, plus people would only be taking it once or once a year.

Nope didn’t file 2019 yet because then I know we wouldn’t get anything. I was going to file but as soon as they started talking about it being based on income I held off knowing there was atleast a chance we were under that in 2018.

This is really good from Bill Maher. More people should listen to this 5 min clip. Like that, you will love this.

Watched it and was a fan.  I definitely don't agree with everything Maher says at all, but I respect his unapologetic approach and defense of the first amendment.  He is always going after the outrage/easily offended culture.   You know he makes a good point when even conservative twitter (Saavedra is pretty damn conservative) is applauding him.
