Would that work? Sure. People would generally not spread things as much while in public, including (but not limited to) the COVID-19 virus. Seems like pretty significant overkill, though.

I'm not sure how we go back to work without some other mitigation factors. But maybe masks only for people taking public transit. Otherwise, I think most people will be smart enough to keep their distance from others in public.
Don't know about going people going back to the office, though. I've heard the germs spread 6 feet, then 27 feet, and recently like 17 feet. I feel like most offices I've seen have 6 feet between desks/cubes, but that may not be enough.
I'll ask again - why can't we go straight to the stage 3 trials and then a vaccine could be ready to go by the end of summer? 60k people at varying degrees of "risk" in 30 vaccine trials? The alternative is shut the country down for another year, and then multiples of that number eventually die from the resulting depression. Or let things rip, and multiples of that number will die directly from the virus, and then many more indirectly when hospitals are overrun.
I'm assuming the virus comes back, or doesn't really leave us. Hopefully I'm wrong and we get lucky.

I honestly think the hold-up on trials shed a pretty poignant light on some of the problems with an overbearing regulatory structure. When time is of the essence, a rigid regulatory structure that was built in a "normal time" environment isn't going to fit the needs well.

Well, the regulations exist because of some pretty bad incidents. An early polio vaccine was rushed before we had all the safeguards, and it ended up an absolute disaster.
But I'm not talking about rushing the final stages, just skipping the early stages which could conceivably bring that 18 months down to like 6 months. Meanwhile, the govt should also throw another few billion into building and tooling up a couple of high capacity factories to quickly meet demand.
They did allow a few of the candidates to skip animal trials. It's all intended to minimize risk to the volunteers. But these are not normal times, and the lives of millions hang in the balance, globally. I don't think you'd have any problem finding 60k brave volunteers. I could be way off, but I think the risk of severe side effects are much lower from a vaccine than most other drug candidates.

But I'm curious if there are any deaths that are because of other reasons, but "COVID" is slapped on it. Could be because 1) it's easier 2) political reasons (tinfoil), etc.
Like the skydiver meme, "Skydiver without parachute dies of COVID" I would not put it past the media one bit to report COVID deaths that aren't actually related to COVID. If I have COVID and I die in an automobile accident, to me, COVID shouldn't reach the news at all... but we all know that it would, for the clicks.

I think there's some truth to it. But someone could be terminal, or just pass because of complications from comorbidities, and have it attributed to Covid-19. I see both sides of the argument. I think if I was with the CDC I'd rather have data biased toward the high side.
I feel like it's more conspiracy theory. It's not some big puzzle - this kills via pneumonia. Or someone with a heart condition might die from that, but I don't know if even an autopsy could definitely determine if the virus was the cause or just a contributing factor. The flu also kills from pneumonia, but the flu season was coming to an end at the time this started ramping up.
Just doesn't seem very plausible that a significant number of people are dying from something else and just happen to be asymptomatic with the virus. 0.16% of the population infected seems way too low for that type of coincidence to happen in large numbers.

What he did was actually highly effective. He really triggered CNN with that, even on top of the 3-yr butthurt he's put them through. And the reason is they've been pushing this narrative for weeks. But unlike a small audience on Fox News, tens of millions of people just saw CNN wrecking CNN's own credibility.

He took plenty of shots at Fox with the old videos of them saying the virus was a hoax ect.. I thought this was pretty dumb because there are plenty of videos of him saying the same type of stuff. The whole thing is just unnecessary and if they aren’t going to stick to the topic of virus updates they should just stop these briefings. He should just answer the damn questions whether he likes them or not. That would kill most of the power he perceives these questions to have. By making videos and ranting it looks more like he has something to hide.

There was a good recount of everything that has happened to get the record straight. Trump orders travel shutdown before there was 1 U.S. death (despite getting ridiculed by the left and called a racist etc.) all while being impeached. Fauci states that every time he asked for mitigation efforts and additional mitigation efforts Trump said yes. So on one hand, Trump uses his instincts to shut down travel before any deaths, thereby savings thousands of lives; on the other hand every time the scientists asked for anything, he concurred.
How the damn media can screw all that up is a mystery, unless you realize they are the enemy of what this country stands for, or used to.

Let me help you: on one hand the media says he did not act soon enough (even though he did), and termed it racist when he did act. Then, the media said he did not follow the science, even though he did as attested to by Dr. Fauci. So yes, the media is wrong, again, as usual. And the fact that the media self identifies as 90% liberal is a real problem for this country, as well as their personal, vindictive hatred of the president.
