Not sure if all but most hospitals in the state requiring the vaccine for their employees. Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus area hospitals all have. Cleveland has too I think.
So clickbait headline on Bloomberg: "Florida hospitals fighting to get oxygen". Technically true, at least to some degree, but because of logistical/distribution issues and not supply shortages.
I'm guessing most people read that headline and assume Florida hospitals are so overwhelmed they're running out of oxygen. Then about 5 paragraphs down is this line: "Florida currently has 11,515 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalized, taking up 21% of intensive care unit beds as of Aug. 3"

This dumbass Democrat administration and media is going to make Desantis a king, if the republican morons can pull away from Trump.

Not a bad plan, albeit psychopathic, to basically do nothing and hope for the best. If it works out, he might have an easy path to POTUS.
If it backfires - and right now I'd say the trend is not good for him - then no point wasting your time running for POTUS.
But it's probably impossible to overestimate how the Democratic propaganda machine will spin Desantis as a massive failure, regardless of the facts.
Of course, without Covid Trump may very well have gotten re-elected (incredible as that is to believe). It's awfully early, but I think there's at least half a dozen Repubs that can beat Biden or Kamala. And given the direction things are going for Quid Pro Joe, it wouldn't surprise me if he's pressured not to run for re-election. Probably wouldn't cave, so the Dems will have to euthanize his political career.
posted by gutMaybe that's how they came up with the 15 minute rule, although I thought that was maskless exposure (now, of course, it's "seconds" with Delta).
But it does raise some interesting questions about kids wearing masks to schools. N95 masks are very effective, but the masks kids will be wearing aren't. And I'm not sure an N95 mask would protect you 6+ hours.
They'd probably argue it still makes a big difference reducing the "viral load". Except I wonder after an hour or more if you haven't "maxed out" the viral load regardless of how sick the person is that you were exposed to.
I can verify that 80% of masks worn by elementary kids are disgusting and 15-20% wear same one every day for months…..awful
One of my friends mom spent 56 days in the hospital from covid but survived and she just got her bill from riverside 979,839.10.

Company I work for provides oxygen to hospitals (not what I do, but company is a major supplier).
I can tell you for sure that headline is a joke, there are no oxygen shortages, there is a shortage of currently certified drivers BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE PAID TO NOT WORK combined with the hours restrictions
There is plenty of oxygen, the beds are only 23% or whatever full.

Insurance provider probably only pays 10-20% of that invoice.
I think Trump signed a bill, and Biden is trying to enact it, that hospitals were going to have to disclose what different insurance companies, and cash payers, actually pay. Could be useful, but apparently extremely difficult to navigate/find prices.
I don't understand it. Prices on hospital bills appear to have no relationship to actual cost of services. Maybe something to do with taxes, since many hospitals operate as non-profits (which, in some cases, is complete BS).

Website seems super minor league....not convinced it's not a prank.
I do wonder, though, if they will also raffle off some brown shirts in their monthly drawing.
Ahhh, yes. Gotta scroll down to the bottom of the "About" page:
"Disclaimer: The AURS is a satirical critique by political candidate David Alexander Bramante, in association with his campaign David Bramante for Governor 2021."

Yea I believe because of a covid bill that was passed, this bill is 100 percent covered. I didn’t mean it to sound like they were losing everything, just how rediculous hospital bills are

Didn't mean to imply you did. I can't imagine how they came up with nearly $20k per day. No basis in reality.
But maybe the answer lays in the "covid bill 100% covers this". Probably grossly over-billing Uncle Sam trying to make up for losses elsewhere.

Yes I'm sure Spock has posited just about every potential liberal disaster and been told he's nuts - this one included. That's not prophetic; that's just throwing voluminous amounts of shit at the wall in hopes of a crumb sticking.
Y’all need to start decreasing your daily screen time.

Area football scrimmages getting canceled here in the Tri state area.
Here in Jackson the football team is having a vaccination clinic for the football players who want it…..kids don’t care but will of course anger a decent number of parents.
One cheerleader knocked out every cheerleader at team pics as she tested positive this morning… except the 3 who were vaccinated.
This is going to get ugly I think.

I was in Chicago on business this week. At least 1/3, but probably closer to 1/2, of people I saw on the street were wearing masks.
Most seemed to be in their 20s and 30s, so maybe people that thought the vaccine was a waste of their time, and now the recent pandemic porn has them shitting themselves? Went and got the jab and have to mask up for a few weeks until they've run the full course?
The stores and restaurants I went to weren't requiring masks. So it seemed like everyone was wearing them voluntarily. I assume Chicago has a fairly high vax rate, so I couldn't believe how many were wearing masks.
In Pittsburgh last night and probably 1/5 masked on the streets. Closer to half in the stores we were in (outlet mall)

Insurance company will have a negotiated rate etc...for reasonable and customary ; I would imagine the actual amount paid will be about 30-40% of the initial billing. Still ridiculous.
Sounds reasonable in the big cities that the adults making decisions own their own and arent being forced by businesses.
You want to wear it, wear it. Dont make the healthy population be forced into it.

OK, this does give me pause about what I thought I knew about the vaccines given there seem to be a lot of doctors with concerns (and we've seen that with vax rates among medical professionals).
But one of the commenters made a good point that many doctors are generally uninformed outside their area of expertise. And that lines up with a doctor like Ben Carson thinking pyramids were for food storage.
The rest of the comments are, per usual, entertaining to read. Who knew so many doctors had time to post comments on Gizmodo? Typical libtard comments about older doctors being "old, mostly conservative and mostly white". And incompetent, of course, same things millenials say in every other industry about their bosses.

98% of physicians are vaccinated according to the AMA. It's nurses where the rate drops to below 50%. People can read that in different ways. For me, it confirms my decision to be vaccinated.
On an aside, a no-vaccine guy I talked to last night was telling me that he and a friend of his have been able to locate a list from the government that lists all of the future dates new variants will be released. He believes Covid is fake, that Bill Gates is somehow utilizing the situation and that the variants are population control devices While he repairs cars by day, by night he can apparently locate online top secret US government intelligence planning undetected.
