Cleveland Cavaliers Offseason Thread 2013

  • lhslep134
Since the season is ending tonight I thought I'd get a head start on this thread.

First, tonight may very well set the course of the Cavs future depending on whether we get the Lakers pick or not. Why? I have an informed hunch that we'll be packaging the Laker's pick, the King's future 1st, Andy, and possibly something else for either Kevin Love, Lamarcus Aldridge, or Al Horford

That sets the stage to go into next season with a roster sort of looking like this:

    Irving/Waiters/??
    Waiters/??/Ellington
    #3/4 pick/Ellington/??
    Thompson/Zeller/??
    Horford/Zeller

Since Horford won't be a max guy, that will leave cap room to sign Lebron after 2014 when he opts out. That WILL happen, I'm not just predicting it, I'm saying it's happening and will dig this thread up when it happens.

A lot of ifs in this scenario. I don't see LeBron opting out, and I don't see any of those deals going down. If we are going to give away those picks i'd much rather it be Love than Horford.

Please explain this "informed hunch." Don't tell me it was from wine and gold either.

Lebron is going to opt out. Whether he comes back to Cleveland is another thing. He will get so much more money by opting out and by then wade will be just about done anyways. I don't see him staying in Miami after next season

Wade is only 31 right now. That is just one more season. Not too sure why everyone thinks he will all of a sudden just be about done.

Not allowed to. It's not Cavs related though I can confirm that.

Don't believe me if you don't want to. I'm comfortable saying that Lebron will be coming back. That's not from him, that's from me.

I agree but you figure LBJ's next contract will be another 4-5 year deal. Do you tie your next few years to a 33-37 year old Wade or do you go for a team with a 22 year old Kyrie, 23 year old Waiters etc... I'm not saying he would but if a team that seems to have good pieces and cap flexibility to sign you, you'd have to consider it.

As for the speculation in the original post of this thread. I like the idea of getting a Horford or Love. I think we need young vets as leaders on this team.

SMH, come on. Don't throw that BS here unless you can give a credible source.

I just don't see LeBron coming back to Cleveland. Lets not forget he still would have to patch things up with Gilbert. Also, if the Cvs rebuilding plan was "wait for LeBron to opt out," then we are in more trouble than we think. People who think LeBron is coming back is just setting themselves up for dissapointment.

Like I said, if you don't want to believe me, that's your prerogative. I'm not going to divulge anything or discard my loyalty to appease you. LOL @ that logic.

If you want to believe me, then believe me when I say that Lebron is coming back. I was 65/35 on him him not coming back until the last couple days, that's all I can say.

How is that the plan? We have a ridiculous stable of assets, it's now on Grant to do something with it. Drafting Porter and trading for Love or Horford is "waiting for Lebron"??

Also, like_that, I said informed hunch. What I'm saying is that at the end of the day this is still all my speculation and opinion, not the person I know's opinion or anything.

I agree that if the only plan was to wait for LeBron to come back, then we are screwed as far as management goes.

But I don't see a reason why it should not be a contingency if it is possible.

Ah I knew it was the Chicago waiter who told Chad Ford that LBJ was signing with the Bulls.

Who cares? Next year it will be the same shit. 31-51 after three years scott will be fired along with grant and griffin then we will switch back to watching our franchise player leave us on a ESPN special.

I think Lebron will come back in two years, but I'm not childish enough to make up undisclosable sources and post predictions while claiming I'm Nostradamus and that I'll rub it in your faces if I'm correct.
  • lhslep134
Also rumored, Phil is going to come to Cleveland in a management type role, and if that happens, look for Shaw to be our next coach.

So, you thought you were going to be able to post your inside information (on a Cleveland thread where everyone questions everything) without anyone questioning you? LOL @ that logic.

If you turn out to be correct a year and a couple months from now then I will def recognize it.

Here's what I know from talks with Lebron's Right hand man Maverick Carter: Lebron will be opting out. Now, whether Maverick is sincere or not in saying Lebron wants to come back to Cleveland is up for debate...

Fair enough. I guess I'll just keep my mouth shut from now on.

IMO he wants to reshape his image, wants to be able to come back to Ohio without pure vitriol from everyone except a few places in Akron.

Not sure if I am a fan of this if it were to be Cleveland. Would be the Cavs version of Holmgren.

I was thinking today how if lebron came to Cleveland after next year I could see Phil wanting to coach that team. He probably has that itch to coach lebron

No, dont. I know what it's like to talk to people and not be able to give the source away. Keep the info coming. I'm constantly posting things about the Columbus Crew on a board called BigSoccer and after 4-5 years of being spot on they are finally starting to accept that I may have some sources haha. Takes a long long time

I'm thinking it would be more of a Riley/Spoelstra relationship. Not quite puppet and puppet master, but more like (sorry for bringing up a legal analogy) but a partner overseeing the case work of an associate (not a perfect analogy I know).

When I hear folks talk about Lebron coming back to Cleveland and patching things with Gilbert it makes me SMH. We would gladly accept the Prodigal Son back and it would be glorious.

OK, now you are getting a little crazy, IMO.

As for Lebron coming back, I think there is a very good chance at it happening. I buy into the whole "reshape" image thing and all of that. However, it still isnt smart for Grant to put all of his eggs in the Lebron basket. I'd be cool with Lebron not coming back as long as we maintain our flexibility and are able to sign another big name FA as well. FA is stacked in 2014...

I think the roster will look something like this next year, personally.

    Kyrie/Livingston/Waiters
Waiters/ FA or second 1st rounder or Ellington
Gee/ FA or second 1st rounder
    TT/Zeller/Jones
    Len or Noel/Speights or Andy

I think a Center needs to be the 1st pick. I want Noel to shore up our horrid defense (lead by Kyrie). Say what you want about injury concerns, but it was a freak injury.
