Women and Minorities: A Question.
-
ernest_t_bassFirst, I'm actually being 100% serious.
Does it bother you, at all, that when you receive a promotion, a job offer, etc., that it may not (may not) be because you are the better candidate for said job offer or promotion, but rather to meet a certain quota?
I'll give you an example. It's known in the basketball officiating ranks, that if you are a minority or a woman, and you are a decent basketball official, you will have a fast track to the "top." Let's take HS officiating, for example. If you are minority or a woman, you will make your way to the state tournament, much faster than a white male, who is better quality. The reason? "They" want to have more diversity being shown on the court during the state tournament.
Now, I understand the desire to show diversity, but by stating they want more diversity, they are making the quality of the worker secondary, or even tertiary to the color of their skin, or whether or not they have a ball-sack.
How do you feel about this? -
SnotBubblesThe best candidate should always be hired. With that said, their are still some discriminating owners who would only consider the "best" candidate a Caucasian male. Therefore these situations still have to be handled accordingly.
When people stop being discriminatory, then the best candidate will always be hired. Until then, sucks to be a white boy. -
ernest_t_bass
But this will never happen. If a white male is hired, discrimination will ALWAYS be what people go to first.SnotBubbles;1396186 wrote:When people stop being discriminatory, then the best candidate will always be hired. Until then, sucks to be a white boy. -
like_thatHow many "minorities" and "women" do we even have on the OC?
Anyway, I have said it before, but I will say it again, I think white middle class men are the most discriminated group in this country. -

Raw Dawgin' itYou're either qualified or you're not. I'm tired of quotas. If you're the best candidate you deserve the job no matter if you're white, black, brown, or a woman. What about black business owners who discriminate against whites? Wait, that's not a problem because they're promoting minorities in the work force! gtfo.
On the other hand, we're not that far removed from civil and womans rights, so people are still racist. White people are afraid of being called racists. I think black people are more racists though. The can openly rip on white people but if i make a slavery joke, I hate blacks. -

Pick6what about business owners who wont hire you because you go to a different church than them? Saw this happen before.
-
Raw Dawgin' itI'm tired of women patting themselves on the back for doing just as well as a man. Just because you don't have a dick doesn't mean you shouldn't work hard and be able to excel in the same positions. Everyone was created equal, you don't deserve special treatment because you're black and play the "white man is keeping me down" card. Maybe if you spent that time trying to better yourself instead of blaming someone else for your problems, you wouldn't be looked at in a negative light.
-
ernest_t_bass
This is a catch 22. Discrimination will always happen, and in a situation where there was actually no discrimination, someone will cry discrimination.Pick6;1396197 wrote:what about business owners who wont hire you because you go to a different church than them? Saw this happen before. -
Belly35Until we get rid of the NAACP I will have to think twice before hire any Blacks.</SPAN>
That is a sad thing to say but it is truthful and honest.
I have shared my canteen with my Black soldiers, risk and save the lives of many a Black soldier and even a college friend that was drowning. Given to Black families in need, supported Black athlete in AAU teams. My neighbor is Black and we are great friends and support each other working hand and hand inour yards ell I was even invited to his family picnic. He knows my feeling about Obama and some of my views, we have talked in great length about racism. </SPAN>
I have hired Blacks in the past and it’s been a problem when.... Truth is many Blacks are very talented, skilled but when the NAACP gets into the mentality of a successful and dedicated worker everything turns for the worst.</SPAN>
Equality doesn’t come via a political agenda group it comes with achievements. </SPAN>
Dr. Ben Carson my latest hero ………….. want truth or political correctness… </SPAN></SPAN> -
FatHobbitI get what you all are saying and I somewhat agree. Kinda.
Yeah, it's terrible to be white and born in America.SnotBubbles;1396186 wrote:Until then, sucks to be a white boy.

TiernanThe NAACP hasn't had any political clout in this country since about 1973. But go on believin' what ya want people.

Dr. Ben Carson hated all that also but he achieved greatness -
Raw Dawgin' it
So i should feel guilty about where i was born is what you're saying? So dealing with finding a better job that pays enough to support my family and pay my bills isn't important because there are people in other parts of the world who live in a hut? This argument goes both ways. If they want to get to this country then then can find a way, just like i could take my money that i earned and go live there for $100 a year.FatHobbit;1396213 wrote:I get what you all are saying and I somewhat agree. If you knew that you were passed over for a job because the other person was black would you go back to your desk and go "but there are people without water, so this isn't a big deal at all." -
BoatShoesOh l00k it's the "Us white guys have it worse than everyone else" meme again! What a crock of shit. Women and minorities are earning their keep all across America and us white boys have to step our game up. But, I'm sure it feels better to say "she only got teh j0b cuz she's a woman" etc.
It's like Louis CK says, if you could re-up on your race at the end of the year...would all these white males whining about being the most discriminated against choose to be a minority? Gimme a break. -

I'm sorry. Not the question.BoatShoes;1396232 wrote:Oh l00k it's the "Us white guys have it worse than everyone else" meme again! What a crock of shit. LOL that these poor foreigners could get here and even if they could that we would let them in large numbers. Go visit the politics forum and see how at least half of this country would feel about that.Raw Dawgin' it;1396227 wrote:So i should feel guilty about where i was born is what you're saying? Let me know when the NFL has the white equivalent of the Rooney Rule. Also, let me know when white males get the same type of scholarships and admittance preference for being white males, just like their minority counter parts do.BoatShoes;1396236 wrote:LOL that these poor foreigners could get here and even if they could that we would let them in large numbers. Gblockwaaaaaa....waaaaa..seriously stop it. if you are white and middle class or better you are in the best group in this country. QQ
as far as the topic im quite sure there are plenty of male drivers better than danica patrick but for the fact that she is a woman and adds something to the sport. whether that be increased interest or higher ratings or in general broadening the brand. same goes for highering minorities or women, what does it mean to be the "best"?? It is importnant to higher them because the more different types of people, ideas and backgrounds you have at your company or business the more likely you are to be successful. If you have all of the same types of people you are going to get the same type of ideas from people coming from the same type of backround ect..
as far as discrimination in hiring of course it still exists.. people are more likely to hire someone who looks and acts like them, someone they are more comfortable with, this goes for black and white. so if whites are doing 99 percent of the hiring they are more likely to hire someone white. you certainly arent at a disatvantage ever being white. people who QQ over a few handout jobs or scholarships that are holding the white man down make me LOL -
