Women and Minorities: A Question.

Perhaps if we focused on treating all people the same regardless of skin color, religion, gender, age, etc. we'd be much better off. But no, we have to have special categories for everyone; divide and conquer.
Where do you think it grows from? I was just explaining the initial reasoning. Once a population isolates itself and decides to not trust another because they are different, the initial feelings of distrust can change over time. And I guess you would be right in saying that is society taught instead of instinct. But I think the original basis for these society taught feelings of superiority or hate are based off the instinct to not trust, so it is a behavior that we have to work to correct.

And perhaps if black people actually had to work for things in life rather than having everything being handed to them based on the color of the skin, maybe more companies would be willing to promote them to management positions.
what do see as handed to black people besides a few scholarships and a few state/federal jobs?

Yeah but I don't think trust is the root of racism. I don't trust a lot of people regardless of skin color; doesn't mean I think I'm better than them. I don't trust women because from my experience all they care about is my money and my "status" and nothing else; but that doesn't make me better than women(especially not at childbirth ).

well once you factor in natural unconsious bias and the fact that werent you one of the people on here that was saying in the job thread that most of getting somewhere in this country is about your connections and who you know. white males are certainly the most connected and have the most access to the power postions so QQ about a few handout jobs they give to blacks or women

    • Preferential treatment in receiving aid and acceptance letters to college.
    • Preferential treatment in hiring practices since companies don't want to be sued.
    • Preferential treatment in winning contracts(one of my clients has to subcontract with at least one woman owned company and one minority owned company).
    • Preferential treatment in court cases(Trayvon Martin anyone? The race baiting alone was a media firestorm)
    • "The Race Card"
That alone is enough to cause a strong divide between racial groups. Time for minorities to grow up and face reality.

Perhaps because white people aren't handed everything to them in life and HAVE to network(read: take time and effort to get a job) instead of relying solely on their skin color to get hired. Also, white people tend to start more companies while blacks complain about being held down by the man(I mean seriously, when is the last great entrepreneur to not be a white male?).

I mean I graduated college about 2 years ago and I can list about 40 people right now that all have college degrees and are waiting tables at Bob Evans. The only way to get a job out of college is major in STEM, particularly the engineering field OR have a connection inside a company that happens to be hiring. Heck, one of the biggest dumbasses I know from Ohio State skated by with a ****ty GPA in chemical engineering and now he probably makes more than I do. The only reason I have my current job is because I knew someone that worked here and got myself in front of someone for an interview. -sleeper

I agree with this. Black people are unable to network? Boo-hoo.

I probably should have added to that rant that if you are black you can find a job. Just show up and companies will hire you. Must be nice!

No, the problem is, given that scenario, the answer is easy. Instead of answering said scenario with the obvious easy answer, you try to spin it.

Extend, perhaps. Worsen, perhaps. Cause? Way to late to place that blame here.

Exactly. One. One could argue that she got her fame BECAUSE she was black and a woman. Must be nice!

Well considering I graduated from Ohio State with honors, I was absolutely qualified for the job. I knew someone because I attended networking events and got someone's business card and emailed him on a whim asking if there were any job opportunities and he happened to have one. I came in for an interview and got the job. Gosh a ruddies, I'm so lucky to be white; my hard work and ability to network were bestowed upon me at birth and set me up for lifelong of easy rides. It's too bad I didn't just sit at home and aimlessly apply for 1,000 jobs, not get any calls back and then complain that the white man is holding me back.

Direct cause of "new racism"; absolutely unequivocally.

Of all the women and men in the media and those who've had day time talk shows Oprah becomes a billionaire and it's not because she is immensely talented and earned it...it's because she's black and a woman and therefore it was handed to her. God knows if people didn't just hand Oprah her success because she was black and a woman poor oppressed Phil Donohue would've done it!!!

Classic reasoning! Minorities and woman can achieve anything if they work hard, Sleeper says! When they achieve the heights of capitalistic success, they didn't really earn it Sleeper says!

The illusion of knowledge after all!

Like_that, you have owned this thread. I wish I could've repped you multiple times. Well done sir.

Lol at the people who think minorities still have it as rough as they did in the pre-1965. I would love to come to your neighborhood and see these injustices. The only white people can be racist and white people have nothing to complain about arguments always bring the laughs as well.

If that was the case, where are all these stunning examples of black success? The Oprah story is the exception, not the rule.

0 yAy another oppressed white guy! Tell us more about how like_that owned the thread by acknowledging that most of an entire race of people want a handout!
