Why was the Bakari v Rodriguez match an exhibition? Can he go 106??

Looks like Silverthorn will go 138. Emmerson staying at 132 and Montoya 138. Fort is 170.

Will try to update rankings this weekend.....looking forward to the championship duals!

    Just brought their heavyweight.

Jordan and Tyler both finished in 6th place today. I felt really good about Tyler's performance at the tournament looking at the competition that he had to wrestle he did a very nice job. He had a few close matches that couldn't when either way. When a city kid wrestle with kids that have more experience then they have and they wrestle at a high level gives us something to look forward to in the months ahead.

Seriously, as much as I'd love to have the day off work tomorrow, I don't want the snow to ruin my dual meet tomorrow.
  • It is what it is
Talk of basketball games being moved which would bump everything else as well! Plus, the severe temps coming after the snow look like an issue also!!
  • wraith51
Yes, because if roads were clear and temps above freezing there would still be chance for matches, but like you said with the freezing temps following that won't be a good thing.
  • It is what it is
Anyone hear how, or if, city duals will be affected by cancellations??
  • 80baby
I talked to my AD this morning and for now there isn't a contingency plan if there's no school tomorrow. One thing we know is that basketball games will happen if there's no school tomorrow then I think that basketball will make up games on Thursday and wrestling will end up getting rescheduled. I hope the decision maker will prove me and a few other people wrong. I know that the games at MF and MIFF have been moved to Thursday.

    Team Results from Mifflin Supertri
    Mifflin 39
    Africentric 24

    Eastmoore W ( don't have score)
    Independence L

    Mifflin 30
    Eastmoore 24

Independence W (Don't have the score)
    Afrocentric L
  • It is what it is
    Think Mifflin beat Eastmoor 42-30.
  • It is what it is
A LOT of forfeits! Not sure this round of duals is necessary?? Some duals had only 4 actual matches (I think Africentric vs Independence only had 2!).

That said....I was impressed by several wrestlers. Nixon from Africentric at 138 is strong and got a big win over Roundtree from Independence. Jackson from Mifflin at 106 continues to improve and beat a tough kid from Eastmoor (who pinned Fair from Independence). Ray from Eastmoor at 285 is strong and athletic and could be a force at city. Myers from Mifflin wrestling up at 138 (Tate out for awhile nursing an injury) got a tough 3-0 win over the aforementioned Nixon. Jackson from Africentric at 113 is strong and technical and should do well at city and beyond.

Good luck to all the teams moving forward!! : thumbup:

Therefore seeding for next year's city dual tournament goes as such:

    1. TBD
    2. TBD
    3. TBD
    4. TBD
    5. Mifflin
    6. Eastmoor
    7. Independence
    8. Africentric
    9. Marion Franklin
    10. Linden McKinley
    11. Northland
    12. Briggs
    13. South

City Dual Championship moved to next Thursday January 15th @ Walnut Ridge HS. Wrestling will be at +3 (Whetstone and West wrestle duals on Wednesday)

Reminder, this seeding does not determine who hosts which round and what not. Host sites are determined by student activities. The seeding dictates who wrestles who the first round of duals next year. Example - Seed 1 wrestles seeds 8, 12, and 13. Seed 2 wrestles seeds 7, and 11. Seed 3 wrestles seeds 6 and 10. Seed 4 wrestles seed 5, and seed 9. Winners advance to the championship dual, losers break off into consolation rounds like we did this year to determine the following year's seeding orders. Again, this has nothing to do with host sites, that is determined solely to the discretion of student activities.

Coaches lets work at making our duals the best we can. With that being said I think that we should look at line ups next season when we start assigning teams to sites. I feel if we come together and have a written plan to present to SA they just might listen to us and let us set the duals up where it will be fair to all teams. Based on this years numbers there are only a few teams that have a full or close to full line up. Its not fair for teams that have full or close to full line ups to have to wrestle each other in the first round. This is something that we as coaches can control and present to SA. There are some teams ranked from 5-13 that might have won their respective site if they where at a different site. What we have done with the team duals so far is wonderful however there is room for improvement so we can have the best teams wrestling for the Championship.

Also if everyone wants to move our team dual dates next year than we need to talk about it next month at our seeding meeting or during our break before the Championship round. I think its a good ideal to move it back into Jan because more kids are at there MWW and line ups will hopefully be fuller. So if we're going to adjust the dates then we need to have it set at the League Championships so everyone can adjust their schedules according next season. So what do you think about this give some feedback.
  • It is what it is
SA has never listened to coaches in any sport concerning anything (took 10+ years to get track championships to not conflict with proms, changing divisions in football has never been addressed, etc., etc.)!

I'm just an assistant, so it REALLY doesn't matter what I think, but good luck with having common sense rule the day!! :RpS_lol:

I do, however, agree with your suggestions (a bit late for 1 team's sake though, lol!).

I am all for making changes to improve. Moving the entire dual tournament until after the 2nd grading period ends is doable if student activities will cooperate. This year we based seeds off of the finish of the Invitational Championship. We decided after some objection from Coach T to switch it for the upcoming year and base seeds off of this year's dual tournament. Honestly, I do not see any other more efficient and fair way than basing the seeding off of previous year's tournament finish (whether dual championship or invitational championship). Teams that do not have a full line up end up getting paired up in the final round, and teams with fuller lineups get paired up in the final round. This is more practical than the old way where we just let student activities pair us up based on preference and geographical location.
