I agree, and I think everyone agrees, but sadly I don't think our opinion matters in that decision. Last year when we did this, that was basically what happened for everything except for one site. This year it was all messed up. Ultimately it's Mr. Clareno's decision. -
lion69Tell the south coach to contact Joe Moyer at St Charles we have a 220 with no one his size and a decent 138 they could practice with. We start at 4:00 each day so South would be prety close to us. Want to keep wrestling alive everywhere we can.

I think that we should have our sites and team assignment ready to present at our seeding meeting on the 20th. I know Shepp will be there and I'm not sure if Mr. Clareno will show up or not. Either way we can talk about our plan for next year with Shepp and he can pass it on to Mr. Clareno I hope he shows up so we can settle it that night.Fatmanroll>Peterson;1703476 wrote:I agree, and I think everyone agrees, but sadly I don't think our opinion matters in that decision. The other major thing we (as wrestling coaches) need to take the lead on is the school districts new grading policy and our need for an adjustment to our athletic eligibility GPA requirements. We need to make a strong push to get this presented before the school board for approval before the start of fall sports next school year. I don't have a problem with the new grading scale my problem is with the GPA requirements. They need to understand that if a student athlete has all C's and one C- they will have a 1.9 GPA and won't be eligible for athletics. At some point SA needs to take a stand and present this to the school board to be changed. Based on my understanding of the new grading standard the GPA requirements for athletics should be 5 credits and a 1.700 GPA or higher. -

Doubt Clarno will be there, but we can present our position to Jeff and he can relay it; can't see why it wouldn't fly, but then again...it is SA! :RpS_lol:80baby;1703552 wrote:I think that we should have our sites and team assignment ready to present at our seeding meeting on the 20th. I disagree about the gpa change however. Student-athletes that can't earn a "C" average will NEVER go to the next level because they will NEVER be recruited. Furthermore, they will struggle in life due to poor work ethic and low expectations. Also, the district offers 2 probations that they can use during their HS career (as long as they pass 5 credits). The discipline, commitment & sacrifice that athletes should be learning & demonstrating HAS TO apply to on the mat/court/field AND in the classroom! jmo : thumbup: -

I can see both sides to the argument. On one side I agree with Blue, there is no way these kids can't pull down a 2.0 if they are not lazy. I have very very rarely met a kid that was under a 2.0 and the contributing factor wasn't laziness, cutting class, or absenteeism. On the other hand I agree with Herman Only in the sense that many school districts in Ohio only adhere to the OHSAA 5 credit eligibility policy.
I will type something up in terms of the team duals and present it at the seeding meeting, what dates would you guys prefer? The seeding would stay as I previously posted, with first round host sites Walnut Ridge, West, Whetstone, and Centennial, with the highest remaining seed hosting in the finals. -
It is what it isA lot of suburban schools use a gpa under 2.0; I know when I coached at CC...HS it varied according to grade level (9th = 1.5, 10th = 1.7, 11th & 12th = 2.0). Others just use the 1.7 for all. I guess it wouldn't matter to me if we went to a 1.7 because I would still expect better from the student-athletes (I think they should have a 2.5). We tell guys all the time that C's are the top of the BOTTOM!
I say hold the 1st rd on the 13th and the next rd on the 20th. -

Lets hold a seeding lotto with ping pong balls and pick like a draft. : thumbup: -
YOU MAD BRO!We need all coaches at Briggs on time so we can resolve all these issues for next season and not wait until next season. Its our league, our schools, our kids, so lets do what is best for it. We are the ones who know what is best and I'm tired of hearing "I'll get back to you with that" and I don't hear back from anybody. So just like the preseason meeting, we need, WE are going to have a end of the season for next years wrestling season. We put in to much time and effort to keep wrestling alive in the City League so we are not down on by other leagues. Sorry we are not as popular as Basketball, but we put in the most work!

80babyHere's my take on the GPA if you have a kid that has 5 C's and 1 C- that kid will have a 1.95 GPA which would make that kid ineligible and have to use a probation. Here's another one if a kid has a B-, C and 3 C- they would have a 1.98 GPA and once again be ineligible for athletics. You can't change the grading scale and not slide the eligibility to reflect the change to the grading scale. Since I'm a product of CCS I don't have a problem with the 2.0 GPA requirement my only issue with the new standard is that they (the board and district) didn't conciser the affect that the new grading scale would have on AVERAGE STUDENT ATHLETICS. If it was my decision I would have a sliding scale from 9th to 12th grade. I just think there should be balance across the board for our student athlete. This is just another reason for parents to move their kids to another school district.

It is what it isSo how do they calculate a B-? Thought a B was 3 pts, regardless of +/-?
-
80babyThe quality points are all different under this new grading scale:
A+ and A’s are 4.00; A- 3.7; B+3.3; B 3.0; B- 2.7; C+ 2.3; C 2.0; C- 1.7. I know we expect more from our kids in the classroom and for the most part they perform above the standard. What about those kids that are average students (there’s nothing wrong with a kid making average grades) in the classroom now the school board is telling them that they can’t be student athletes because they’re average? Most of the people in world fall in the average category. It’s sad for me to say however SA isn’t going to step up and fight until schools start losing quality BB players under this new grading scale. It only makes since (I know I just used that word) TO THINK ABOUT ALL THE KIDS. I just want to see the district get it right after all CCS is only the largest school district in the state. -
Fatmanroll>PetersonGood night and day at Hamilton Township. Friday was JV and today Varsity. Montoya took 3rd last night at 132, and my two JV heavyweights got their first wins. Today they had a 13 team pools to bracket tournament. I reccomend other city teams to inquirre about this tournament. It was run to near perfection and super efficient both nights. Todays results;
Amadi Bakari took 4th at 106
Anycia Thompson took 6th at 106
Michael Cruz took 4th at 120
Jordan Emmerson took 4th at 132
Austin Sable took 6th at 220
Eryn Fleurval took 6th at 285
285 was stacked!!!! Top 4 was a returning state champion and three state qualifiers. -
It is what it is
With the change in point values due to the new system, I now think we should align the athletic eligibility to coincide with the new values. A 1.7 would align perfectly with the new grading system and still be a cut above most other districts (a lot of districts have a 1.5 gpa requirement)!80baby;1703980 wrote:The quality points are all different under this new grading scale:

We had 2 wrestlers place: Jordan Jackson, 8th, at 106 and Kalief Dent, 7th, at 182! Some very strong teams and wrestlers at this event!! : thumbup: -

Hopefully, everyone got El Gato Diablo's email!! : thumbup: -
