If 'the movement' was focused on BLM and peaceful protests, 'the movement' would not allow itself to be hijacked and used by radical Marxists fomenting violence.
Good luck.

Probably not, that’s why it’s a shame a they hijacked the organization.

You should really have a little introspection of what you say/type on this website before you denigrate ANYONE else.
posted by geeblockI find it interesting that people want to invalidate the entire blm movement over a few of their extreme members( I know they were the founders). The Republican Party has lots of alt right groups with extreme ideas, however you don’t invalidate that whole party. I hear people say all the time I don’t agree with everything the president says but I still support him, even after he just attacked a private citizen with lies(bubba Wallace) and chastised nascar for banning the confederate flag. Yet we hold blm more accountable than the presi
You really just said it. You admitted the biggest bad apples are the founders...that’s kind of a huge problem is it not?
It’s not the fringe like the fringe of the Republican or Democratic parties that are extremists in the BLM, it’s the FOUNDERS.

But if you don’t see how that is a major problem to bring up, then I am not sure where we go from here.

I'd think at a certain point you'd realize no progress is going to be made and move on. Arguing in circles is absolutely exhausting to me, but I guess there are those that like it.
This is a general comment, not directed specifically at you btw.

If you were to remove that angle completely would you be able to say the words black lives matter?

I could and I did at the beginning. Then I feel Ike the movement has lost it’s way. I’m all for looking at ways to improve police like getting rid of no knock warrants and requiring the newest training methods for deescalation techniques every year or every other year for every officer. I’m all for looking for ways to reform the justice system to keep people out of jail and off of parole.
Now I see people/leaders using the movement to just push their political ideologies. I see African Americans being attacked if they having different opinions. I see black officers being verbally and physically assaulted by members of the movement. If “Black Lives Matter” then every Black Life has to matter not just the ones that agree with you.

We can’t understate the fact it is also in their mission statement. The movement got hijacked. It’s a shame, because as gblock said, no real progress will come out of it.
I see it as the movement got hijacked from the founders. This is turning out to be one of the biggest movements in history and 99% of the people in the movement aren’t advocating for Marxism and don’t know what Marxism is and don’t know who the founders are.

How? What change is going to come from it? Defunding police will only go down as bad history, and it will only hurt the very communities these protests are saying they want to protect. The purpose of the movement started getting lost weeks ago to outside observers.
BLM gets almost no credibility in most people's eyes because of the following:
1. The media has thr narrative and it's not a good look.
2. They are getting clumped in with anarchists like antifa
3. BLM isnt about "all" black lives. There is no outreach. No community organizing. If they went into Chicago and walked the streets for those black lives, someone would give them a better platform and maybe even listen.
Start with changing those 3 things and maybe people will listen. Before that its looks like just a bunch of screaming.

Actually if you pay attention millions are on board lol.
There are literally activities marches and rallies against gang and gun violence every single weekend in Chicago. I can help you find some if you are actually interested.

There will always be people like yourself looking for reasons to keep the status quo. Most likely no matter what they did or what the movement was you weren’t getting on board. I am hopeful we will actually see some police reform and changes to the justice system. We can’t keep allowing the police to investigate themselves.

He’s a moron. He lives in trump town, USA population of about 12 and all he sees is BLM hate. He has NO idea what actually happens in the real world.
I live in Chicago, and can confirm there are BLM protests all day every day. And there are also protests for gang violence in the city. People just don’t hear about it because it doesn’t make the news.

I don't even like the police. Take away the union and qualified immunity (next take the teachers union away). I am 100% on board with that. Stop arresting people for small drug offences too. Also on board with that. The movement will still be a blip in history though. And the more their meaning gets disjointed by taking down George Washington statues and other dumb things, the more people that will stop caring.

I have even on this thread, maybe you missed it.
The throught/principle of the saying black lives matter is not wrong. The organization is completely corrupt and many of the protests are being hijacked by the likes of antifa, which is a terrorist organization.
That's the problem.

Again I think the people who will stop caring already didn’t care or were looking for reasons not to care. I can’t think of a bigger movement. Can you name one?

1. Revolutionaries in 1776.
2. Abolitionists pre-civil war.
3. Suffragists for the right for women to vote.
4. Civil Rights of the 1950s/1960s.
There's 4 right off the top of my head.

Occupy Wallstreet didn’t accomplish much
