Waynedale Football?

After 0-10 and getting hammered at home by some teams that are not very good and have not been very good for a very long time, you would think MAYBE the coach may want to be working on his house? Bet everyone wishes that thier jobs were the safe, 0-10 we will deal with that next fall!!!!!!!
Norwayne has TWO football coaches who are also assistant bball coaches and Rittman's head boys bball coach is also a football assistant. Plus, as Flash pointed out in his post, Slaugther is a football/basketball coach at Orrville. There's THREE examples just in Wayne County. But I bet those schools are "not normal" either, huh?

What in the world does him coaching basketball and football have anything to do with anything? Honestly. The football team has started their off-season weight program just like EVERY other school has in the area and him coaching basketball does not affect that in any way.

I just got tired of all the flaming private messages I got after posting anything regarding a change to the FB program, so I quit posting. I couldn't even make a joke about rolls with out getting slammed.

Say it in the open forum for all to read if you're so obsessed that the program isn't in need of a change. (And quit blaming it all on the kids for once !)
My buddy Hunter86 aka The Rookie Football Dad. Boy I have missed you. I have no problem saying it in the "open" forum. How open is this really when you can hide behind a screen name?

If you would read past postings, we have never singled out the kids as the sole place for blame. PARENTS play a BIG role in this situation. However, it still takes a TEAM effort to make this better.

You never did answer my question that I asked you in one of our "private moments". Did you ask one of your fellow fence huggers about his senior year in high school? I know for a fact that he was a CAPTAIN on the only 0-21 varsity basketball team in Waynedale's history. Is that "open" enough for you?!?!?!. Wait, let me guess...it was the coach's fault they lost every game, right? I really do think that he is one of the bashers on this forum who is ripping our 0-10 football coach when he was a member on an 0-21 basketball team. Heck, maybe it's you Hunter or Eyes or ???? If not one of them, then he is certainly one of their main sources. Like I have always been told...consider the source. That's what makes this bashing on here LAUGHABLE.

I said this all year long. I hate being negative about it, but it is a fact. We just didn't have the horses and you may be right...we might not for a long time.

I wish you would stay off that darn fence but at least you have some credibility. You did win a few championships back in your day.

It is going to take a TEAM effort to get this back on track. We will get there, don't worry....

wcalfan;1353480 wrote:My oh my….where do I start? That’s what I love about these “forums”….having the chance to show how bad people look when they open their mouths .

”The coach and AD have to own this reality”. Do you really think that they have not had conversations about this past season. I think we all know that our AD is as competitive as anyone and I am pretty sure he has let it known that we can’t go through that again. However, what about the other stakeholders? The kids, parents, and fans? Like we have said on here in the past…it takes EVERYONE to get on the same page in order to remedy the situation. What are WE going to do to make sure it doesn’t happen again? Better yet, what can YOU do to help? You think you are helping by posting on here?

“Waynedale athletics really seems a trainwreck right now” Really? Let’s see….the wrestling team is the defending state champs and have a good chance at repeating. The softball team gave away the league last year and have a good group of young talent for the future. The volleyball team just won a school record of 20 matches and had no seniors. Both basketball teams are playing pretty well right now and we seem to always finish in the top half in the all-sports standings. Hmmmm…a trainwreck huh?

You don’t need to worry about “the AD’s son being involved in the mix” anymore. Rumor has it, he is done with football. I don’t blame him either after hearing and seeing the things people say about him and his family. I have actually heard his dad say that he doesn’t want to put his son through that for another 3 more years. What a SAD situation some of you people have created. You must be really proud of yourselves.

However, I saved the best for last…”And then there’s the bizarre fact that the school system permitted its AD to become a head coach”. THINK before you talk. Smithville’s AD is the head golf and girls basketball coach, Norwayne's AD is the head boys basketball coach, Rittman’s AD is the head football coach and Hillsdale’s former AD, who is now a principal in the school system is the head football coach. Plus, Dalton’s AD coaches multiple 9[SUP]th[/SUP] grade teams. Outside of the WCAL, Triway’s AD is the head baseball coach, Orrville’s AD is the head tennis coach, and Central Christian’s AD is the head baseball coach and asst basketball coach. At Waynedale, the last three AD’s before Reibe were head coaches at the high school as well. In today’s educational settings, this is VERY common. Head coaches need to be in the buildings. They can’t just create new positions to bring in coaches. I bet if they did that, YOU would be the first person to complain about them spending your tax payer dollars. So I guess all of those other schools are “not normal” huh?
REALLY, the AD's son is only one of many in that class that will be giving up on football and I know it's the fans driving these kids from the program, Wick, wink I get it Wcalfan, same x!#$ same year. By the way welcome back!!

Drive the boy's away huh? Kids don't play because of a coach huh? What happened back in the days, you know back when you played, when you just played because you loved the game and being around your buddies? There is just too much coddling these days and you are now caught up in it. Very sad....

you put yourself thru it because your the fan and welcome back! Beast-I believe you owe me a drink. 0-10 is just difficult to swallow, fan or alumni, student or athlete, parent or teacher it has left everyones pride bruised. BUT! what happened after 0-21. How bad was bear basketball up to that point. So young mr riebe and cobb came in and the face of waynedale basketball changed. bill mgrinn ask mr stanley the effect he had on waynedale wrestling. Just to mention a few.

Listen...Coach Cobb was good but come on man. Look at what he had....TALENT!!! He walked into group of talented players with one of them being the best player in the history of the school. He was in the right place, at the right time. Also, there is no way you can compare Coach Kaufman to Coach Z. Not even close. Kaufman was a life time middle school coach who I still don't know how he EVER got the head varsity bball job. Z has won 2 WCAL championships and has 3 playoff appearances. Please show me how those 2 are comparable?!?!?!?!?!
  • MOUNTAINBEAR
not sure who brought up 0-21! not comparing young mr z to kauf or jeff or bill. not trying to compare coaches at all. you cant. I believe the comparison that some were trying to make even you and jmar is that the face of football as we all knew it at waynedale has changed. the point was that the program from time to time must change or evolve, and it has evolved in a very negative direction.

OK...So obviously Z is still going to be the coach, and the cupboard is pretty bare, what would you guys consider a succesful season next year? Do you measure it in wins? Is 5-5 an obtainable goal? Or do you just look for a little improvement and get a win or two? opinions?......
  • MOUNTAINBEAR
you guys said hold it mountainjack$#&*! look at this from a different lite. I did. i have asked before, the programs that were willing to make drastic changes hillsdale norwayne northwestern, we have had bad seasons before but 0-10 bad, kids quitting, coaching issues, parent issues. someone pointed out that the volleyball team, the softball team, the wrestling team, basketball, baseball.....all doing fine...why is the football team such trainwreck
  • MOUNTAINBEAR
3-7 is the talent level, acording to you guys, 5-5 would be a heck of a coaching job. soph play bigger then we give credit and I will be optimistic at 6-4.

One simple question, can this coach recruit the hallways at Waynedale High School. From what I'm hearing is no, but I'm getting my info from guys at work. You seem to have the inside info, so what are the kids saying.
Now before you go blowing off about (football players) I'm talking about kids that have that competitive drive. Norwayne an Northwestern lead the league last year, did they have 22 football players or a few football players and some other kids who just like to compete weather it football, basketball or soccer, baseball or track?
Now I know recruiting(in your own school) has become much more difficult then in the past with soccer and kids specializing, SO YOU BETTER BE VERY GOOD AT SELLING YOUR PROGRM!
Now I don't know much about this past class or the incoming class that everyone seems to of already given up on, but what I do know is they are Southeast boys an they love to compete, just get them on the field(numbers) 2 or 3 competitve boys can be 4 or 6 playing both ways.
Like I said I'm getting my knowledge from second hand info, you being on the inside should be able to get the pulse(program pulse) directly from the kids walking those hallways.
It's just like the real world, who can sell thier stuff(program) the best, those are the ones who will be successful.
So that one simple question, does Waynedale havethat leader in place? If yes he should stay, if not you need to find one. Wclfan really don't want argue with you, just looking into how this can be fixed.

I brought up 0-21 because one of the biggest bashers on here (directly or indirectly) was a member of that team. You should know him, he was one of your classmates. I just wonder why people on here listen to him when he was a part of a very similar "trainwreck". I just wonder what makes him think he has all the answers when he was a key player on the other "0-fer" team in Waynedale history.

I know that 0-10 is NOT GOOD....not at all. But to say it has evolved in a negative direction is pretty drastic. We were 6-4 last year and I thought we over-achieved with that group. Let's see what happens in the next couple of years. If we continue to struggle, then maybe a change is needed. He has coached 6-7 years and has won 2 WCAL titles and 3 playoff appearances. Most people would be elated with that. Now I know this is Waynedale and we expect bigger and better but again I ask you....how many of our kids would be starters on other WCAL teams this past year?!?!?!?

5-5 would be a GREAT year, in my opinion. Look at it this way...Varsity was 0-10, JV team won 2 games (I think), 9th grade won 2 games (I think) and the middle school teams won maybe 3-4 games combined. Don't quote me on those numbers, but it is close. I think that should help answer any questions we have about the future. You could bring in Nick Saban and he would struggle with the talent level.

People lets be realistic here...line up our kids to any other team on our schedule and it shouldn't surprise you that we would struggle. I'm not trying to degrade our current roster players, I am just being blatantly honest. In the past, we have never had a roster full of "wow" players, but we were able to compete because we had hard working, hard nosed kids. Kids whose parents supported the coaching staff, NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!! That is not the case right now with our football players. I hate to beat a dead horse here but I am telling you that is our problem. We have parents/fans who listen to people like "Mr. 0-21" and think he has all the answers. Then, whether they know it or not, their attitude towards the coach is felt by their kids. How then can they perform at the best of their abilities with that in their minds? Seriously ask yourself that question!!!!

Why not put your faith in a guy who has played and COACHED on championship teams? A guy who cares about his players as much as any other coach we have.

Recruit the hallways? Are you serious? Have you not been paying attention to what is said on this "forum"? There is NO TALENT (competitive or football) to recruit in the hallways. We have competitive kids on our football team but line them up to the Norwayne and Northwestern kids and it doesn't take a genius to see why we struggle. In football, SIZE/SPEED MATTERS. You tell me how much size and speed we have right now on our roster. This isn't college or a parochial school where we can go out and recruit kids. We have to play with hand we are dealt and Coach Z will do everything he can to get these kids prepared but we need to ALL be realistic with ourselves and just be as supportive as possible to our players/coaches.

Your "guys at work" (I always love that one) don't have a clue about the talent in the hallways at Waynedale. You did make one good point...the specializing in sports is really starting to hurt some of our programs (not just football) and this needs to change. Not sure what we can do to change that...I hate to say it but that change will probably need to start at home.

Made some calls to help you out, was told there are three former players that dont fit Z's mold, from what I was told would be two ways starters, C Brewer, L Snyder, B Wardall. So there are six players if they go both ways, so other names in this class that came up D Stanley, can take almost anyone in the state down sure he could make you a few tackles at DE, B Hawkins or B Kick might make a nice TE, how about K Leudeman heard he's pretty quick and can jump through the gym, might make for a heck of a DB an then the Staggs boys heard they can play not sure where, sure a coach could figure that out.
