1_beastIm curious, from wcalfan to eyes r burning, buckz, iced earth, mountain bear, and whoever else wants to throw in their .02 cents. If you could change the lineup, who would you put where, and why? Would the suggested lineup changes help the stance the Bears are in? Is it coaching or kids out of position. Is the correct offense being ran to suit the personnel?

Good question beast...I am not sure I would change a whole lot because I don't think it would help us much. The only thing that bothers me a little is the fact that we changed qb's coming into the year. I'm not sure that was the answer but when we did put Stanley back in that position this year, he struggled. However, I know he probably hasn't been working much there during practices. I still really feel that our line just isn't quite ready yet. I am hoping that this year of experience will help them and good things are on the horizon. I think that Stanley #2 and Strausbaugh #2 are going to be pretty effective in the backfield for the next 3 years and Antwan seems to be getting better and better. Weaver should be solid next year, if we can keep him healthy.1_beast;1290780 wrote:Im curious, from wcalfan to eyes r burning, buckz, iced earth, mountain bear, and whoever else wants to throw in their .02 cents. What about you beast? Suggestions? -
1_beastI do...I just wanted to ponder some ideas before i post. Most people know my thoughts. One or two may piss someone off....let me re-evaluate, and come back.
So are you saying that you wouldnt make any changes? Position? Coaches? Skill sets? Offense type that may be more suitable? -

Nothing on the field, just the sidelines or the box if that is were someone whats to put it. The kids are there, just not put in poistion to win you can put this on the head coach or the asst. I don't care but I beleive the kids are there.1_beast;1290780 wrote:Im curious, from wcalfan to eyes r burning, buckz, iced earth, mountain bear, and whoever else wants to throw in their .02 cents. I'm pretty sure wclfan will put this back on the kids and parents, but lets watch what happens with the wrestling progarm and basketball program(same kids, same parents, just a different leader) they will seceed.
The next test will be the numbers (talking next year wclfan, hoping your keeping up guessing 5 seniors, 4 juniors, 12 soph( thats a big hit there wclfan, and thats what its about, know you are way smarter then me, but you have to be able to put this together) 16 fresh.
I may not be the brightest crayron in the box, but I can see what the wrong kind of leader can do on a team, bussiness, and counrty look at the the shape this counrty is in, and allot of that has to do with not holding people accountable!
So if you want to hold the kids accountable and if they are not preforming then for god sake GET THEM OFF YOUR TEAM! if your asst. coachs are not doing thier job the for gods sake GET THEM OFF YOUR TEAM. Do you get it IT IS YOUR TEAM, win or lose it's yours, so if it's yours and you can not fix it the only place we can look is at you.
My son spoke highly of you when he played for you, said you are a great guy, but being a great guy does not make you a great leader, we just had a basketball guy step away, one of the best men I have ever meet(great basketball mind) but he will admit he is no leader on people(hance thats why he stepped away)
So wclfan bash me all you want, if you can not see what is going on you are a smiple man! Will not post again until after wrestling and basketball to see what those coaches done with the same boys and again when the football roster comes out for next season.

Stop it! how these kids do in other sports has nothing to do with football....football is a different animal that takes size and mass not required to be a great wrestler or basketball player.
There are only 3 or 4 FOOTBALL PLAYERS on the whole current roster and they would have only been role players on some of the good Bears teams of the past....Stop saying you think the talent is there, it makes you look silly! -

Waynedale will never cut a kid either. So getting rid of a kid.... not an option. That is the wrong thing to do anyway. On top of that some posters... not sure if it was you or ghost. Complained about Z losing kids because he had too high of expectations. Well... Cutting them won't help with that problem either. Z would have no kids with his lofty expectations.
Let them be.... If we are not competing in the next two-three years... Then it might be time to consider drastic measures. Right now... There is more than X's and O's that are leading to this slump and frankly... Those issues will still be around for another year or so.... Just hoping a leader steps up, gets guys on the same page, doesn't allow them quit when the going gets tough, and our coaches put the kids in a position to get a W in the next couple weeks. -

First of all, you do understand that last year's wrestling team consisted of maybe 5-6 football players (roughly 25% of the team) and I believe that only 2-3 of them were varsity football lettermen. Of the 6 state placers, ONE was a football player. Of the 5 returning state placers, ONE is a football player. However, I am guessing that we will have more football players this year that are wrestlers but again a good amount will be freshmen. Plus (and please don't take this the wrong way beast), do you really think that wrestling is a "team" sport? After the first round of tournaments (not sure if they are called sectional or districts sorry) the team NEVER competes as a group again. We only had 6 of the weight classes represented (which is impressive) at the state tournament and we still were TEAM champs. BUT, do you consider that a "real" team sport? I am honestly just asking. Seems more like an individualistic thing to me but who knows? Anyways, basketball struggled at times last year as well and they didn't have a lot of football players on the roster. How do you explain that? We know (at least I think) that Reibe is a good coach/leader and I know it was his first year back so maybe that was a factor....anyways, we are talking about a sport that relies HEAVILY on all players on the court to play as a TEAM! Yes, there are individual battles just like in football but they must all work together on the floor/field and have one common goal as a GROUP. I truly believe that we have lost the TEAM concept at Waynedale and I really believe the "individual" attitude is starting to take over and where does that start?!?!?!? It surely doesn't come from either of those coaches because I know that they preach TEAM, TEAM, TEAM. What happens when things go south here at Waynedale lately? Kids/parents start pointing the fingers at everyone else but themselves. I am sorry but I am just stating a fact. If our communities don't see that then we will NEVER remedy this problem. Believe me, it kills me to be saying these things. You know we think that this freshmen class will be the "remedy" but we are already seeing those kids/parents starting this vicious cycle all over again and it is very, very sad.
Wait I got it...we get rid of Coach Z and Coach Reibe because they suck and they certainly don't understand these Waynedale kids. After all, they have only devoted their entire lives to this school district. We need to bring in outsiders who can bring in fresh new ideas and don't have a clue about the populations in our communities. THAT'S WHAT WE NEED TO DO....of course I am only kidding...I hope you can sense the sarcasm!!!! -
jacoFrom where I sit, the team doesn't have the horses or numbers to compete. The one I get - it's cyclical. You're going to have bad groups of kids. The old standard families are moving away and we have a new breed of Waynedale kids. But the numbers.. that one the coach has to accept some responsibility for. He has to have the foresight to invest time and effort into the youth levels. Not fielding a freshman football team at Waynedale last year is unacceptable. And the sniping.. this is a community not used to this sort of losing. They don't know how to react. Which is probably a good thing. It's just very sad.

Buckz#1It is what it is this year. I don't think there is anything you can do but let the kids play. I do agree with wcalfan on the loss of the TEAM concept. I think we should've done what Smithville did and leave the Freshman out of the varsity line-up. They could've had the freshman starters from last year all play together on JV as one team. They still would've been playing bigger, older players and still learning for the future. Then that's a woulda, coulda, shoulda situation.
And to jaco- how about knowing you had 26 freshman coming in this year and only scheduling 4 games before the season started and then scrambling to scheduale more during the season. Not sure what happened there. -

I am going to assume the reason they didn't schedule for 9th grade games was because they didn't know how many of them were going to have to play jv/varsity games. I think they will still get in 5-6 games, right? Plus the majority of them have played in every jv/varsity game.
I like the Smithville blue print of not moving 9th graders up to varsity. Looking ahead to the winter...how many freshmen will be in the varsity wrestling line-up (beast?) and I wonder what Reibe will do with the freshmen basketball players? We have heard enough crap about his son having the AD as a dad in football, what about having him as his coach now in bball? Won't be easy with these fans.... -
Old Rider
Always a tough situation when a father/son is together on a high school team. But if Reibe's son is one of the best players on the team...why would people gripe about him playing as a freshman? You play to win the game and if he helps the team win...wcalfan;1291248 wrote:Good points/ideas.

Buckz#1Basketball should be interesting. A Dad of a player from last year said that some of the sophomores and juniors are not going out this year because they don't want the freshman playing over them. Stupid. He also said a meeting was held and 37 kids showed up for basketball. Reibe sent out an e-mail saying that they had19 freshman at the meeting but they nornally only keep 12 to 15 freshman so some will be cut.
Reibe's son is good enough to play. I think maturity would be the deciding factor. -

Agreed, and football is also a TEAM sport with 11 separate pieces working together as one to form a cohesive unit. Maybe that is part of the problem. The focus of the program and players is on individuals (whether kids are more worried about maintaining wrestling weight or parents pointing the finger at the coach). Football is a game about doing what is best FOR THE TEAM. Wrestling is about fighting and winning individual battles. This has become the problem with our entire country. Everyone is worried about themselves instead of working together to solve problems. You parents that are pointing the finger at the coach? Shame on you. Coach Zuercher puts in countless hours for pennies on the dollar to teach YOUR kids how to become effective contributors in society. The REAL travesty is that through your actions, you are tearing down all of the hard work that he has put in to make your kids better human beings. Until you are willing to sacrifice your time and efforts to do your job as a parent and also take over the program, keep your clueless thoughts and criticism to yourselves.iced earth;1290938 wrote:Stop it! how these kids do in other sports has nothing to do with football....football is a different animal that takes size and mass not required to be a great wrestler or basketball player.

Reibe is a great coach and wil have his team at the top of the standings if not this year then most certainly by next and he will keep that progarm there until he hangs them up. And WHY? Because he relates well with them, that does not mean he thats it easy on them or that his expectations are lower the Z's, and they same way with Louies wrestling program, doe you really believe these two mens expectatios are lower?
So its not about high expectations driving kids away, all coaches in the district and to think Z's are any higher is really silly or and excuse, my point was coach Geiser could not relate to the players, he didn't step away because he didn't know the game.
You started this by saying all kids now days are lazy an unmotivated and now it has turned to no football players in the district, which is it? This year we have no Qbs no Rbs and no line. Last year it was the line Shrock, Lemon, Peterman were big athletic boys add 240lb Smith and aggressive Troyer I would say that is a pretty decent line for a small school. So what makes a good line?
Really don't want to have this peeing contest every night with you, but I will when you twist things. Football is a numbers game you can not keep putting 14,15,16 year old boys, sprinkled in with a handful of upper classmen on the field and be successful against 17,18,19 year old young men. And yes there are some freshman and soph. that can compete at this level. You have to relate to each and everyone of these 14,15,16 young boys, sure some of them may not be great or even good at the young age, but you have no ideal what they could turn into as they age a couple year and you never get that chance if you don't keep them engaged and wanting to get better for you.
I want what everyone else does, bring this program back to were it belongs, but please don't tell me expectations are to high every coach in the district, county, state have high expectations and every coach is dealing with the same type of kids and parents.
We have something that is broke, I really hope Z can fix this he is the only one that can, people like me and you bickering back an fourth Won't.
You ask for suggestions, OK lets work on getting the numbers up, hit the hallways talk and LISTEN to the kids who are not playing anymore. RECRUIT,RECRUIT and RECRUIT in side your building and over here.
These kids are individuals (Eric, Louie have it figured out) everyone is motivated by something different heck you may 45 different individuals 45 different approaches. Anyone listen to the new Indians manager talking about wanting to relating all his new players young and old if he can do that they may have found a great leader to rebuild with. So you even have to do it with the big boys, this my way or the highway is a thing of the past that stuff is a military environment, some kids will thive in that environment but the majority won't.

Eyes,,.I am slowly starting to understand your view and you may have hit it right on the head about today's youth. I guess I really never looked at it from that perspective. There is no doubt that you need to do a little more coddling (I think that's a word) these days and maybe there is some merit to your thoughts.
Also, I completely agree with you about putting are young, inexperienced kids up against veteran players, especially in the game of football. That type of experience can't be that valuable. They are getting the snot beat out of them on every play and losing by huge margins. That has to hurt their mental approach to the game.
I sure hope this can get fixed and like you said, it won't be by people like you and me. However, we can certainly be as supportive as possible, right?
You know...I think there is hope for our "relationship"...maybe we took a step in the right direction tonight (SLIGHTLY sarcastic here). -

Sounds like from the email he sent out that he may try to keep those freshmen together. Which I think is the right move at this point. You hate to hear about kids being cut, however, 19 is too many to keep for one squad. Not quite sure what he has returning at the varsity/jv levels but those boys need to play together and have some fun again. Hey, I heard they also have a pretty good player move in from Smithville. Is that correct? If so....look out!Buckz#1;1291301 wrote:Basketball should be interesting. Reibe's son is good enough to play. I think maturity would be the deciding factor. -

Again missing the point ,twist the words YOU ARE ALWAYS GOING TO BE PUTTING INPERIENCED KIDS up against IF YOU DON"T HOLD THE CLASS that means keeping kids out, lets put senior or junior lead teams on the field with some underclass sprinkled in.wcalfan;1291449 wrote:Eyes,,.I am slowly starting to understand your view and you may have hit it right on the head about today's youth.
Really not sure your getting the problem, and yes it can be fixed. Will take sometime and effort. Have you ever heard a story getting taken to ungodly tales? Every kid that can not fit in with a coach tells another and he tells another and soon this one kids stroy has effected ten young men. Think thats where we are at, like it or not you can't fix it and nether can I.
Who can fix this, the numbers nothing else? -
jacoI see the kids of former Waynedale players all over the area. Sure would be nice to see them back at their dads alma mater! Some of them are bruisers, too. From their dads, they probably understand what Waynedale football represents better than some of the kids in the program today. Depresses me.
