Ya I disagree with this as well. There is pride in the district. I think I see what you are saying though I just don't think pride is the word you want.eaglefutbol33;1313519 wrote:correct.
the attitude overhaul needs to go through the whole school not just football. there used to be a time when people were proud to be from waynedale and i dont think that is the case anymore. -
bearalumni92The next board meeting is November 19th at 7pm. If you have complaints about Z, you need to be there and voice your opinion. Each person has 3 mins to talk. Complaining on here is doing no good!!!

i understand what your saying. but lets not forget we had students show up for the chippewa football game painted blue cheering for chippewa. and i know it was only a few but the few usually ruin it for the rest. the volleyball team did have a great year and the girls bought into the coaches system and the coach figured out how to get the girls to buy in. and success will always do that. if the football team was winning then most on here wouldnt care how zuercher was coaching the team.Hunter86;1313624 wrote:I think the pride is still showing somewhat;
Last year's wrestling team :thumbup:
This fall's girls varsity volleyball team :thumbup: (best school wins record & no senior players !)
The others will come.
There's still pride left, it just needs rearranged. -

Exactly.eaglefutbol33;1313919 wrote: if the football team was winning then most on here wouldnt care how zuercher was coaching the team.
That would mean he was doing something right.
We're not winning so yes a change needs to be made, both by the coaching and the players.
Norwayne found out that winning brings every kid out of the woodwork that ever thought they might want to play.
Want school pride and team numbers to increase ?
Just win some games and see what happens.
No one wants to put forth the time & effort football requires to end up losers.
Yes we were somewhat short on size and talent, but we were coached out of games we could and should have won.
I'm somewhat used to this, as I'm a Browns fan too. Top or bottom of their division, they're still my team. :thumbup:
And so are the Bears ! -

i totally agree he does need to change/tweak his coaching style. the current style has not worked. -
scarface1This is from a fan that went through a coaching change. Here in Wooster we needed something different and I think in the long run it will work, but we won 1 less game than last year most of this was due to a different system. Most people, even on here knows the supposed talent we had the last couple years and could not win. Well the coaching change was supposed to change that, there were people predicting anywhere between 6 to 8 wins. We had a senior rich squad this year (15) most started and played most of the time last year. Problem here was we had maybe 5 of those guys that were team players and the rest never bought into new system this may take time even next year might not go as well as I hope but that is part of change i guess. I think you guys already have a young team if you are going to make a change do it sooner than later so these kids dont get thrown into a system when they are already seniors. Look at West Holmes as an example those kids started out with this new system when they were young and had very few seniors on thier squad, look where they are at now. There is one other thing and that is a lot of us think the talent level on our team is way better than it is. Sometimes the talent just isnt there.

jacoI'm a little harsher on Coach Z than some for the simple fact that he inherited a football rich program. Something like seventeen league titles? The question he has to answer is "is the program worse now than when I inherited it?". Simple as that. A zero win season is unacceptable.
To me, handling a program entails involvement in the youth and junior high levels, making sure there are competent coaches and things are being taught the way you wish. Making sure you don't have a total clunker season like this. There might be down years at Waynedale, but not like this latest debacle. If Waynedale is banking on one single class saving the entire program that's wishful thinking and ridiculous to put that burden on a single group of kids. Waynedale football was never about one player, one coach, or one class. It was about a community attitude. Waynedale kids were never the biggest, strongest or fastest, but they'd hit you the minute you stepped off the bus. You knew you'd be in for a street fight. That's been lost somewhere. -
Hunter86Just curious;
Anyone have the win loss records for the past 10 seasons ?
Not the total win loss numbers, but the stats broken down by each season.
Like to see the how the numbers have changed from pre to post Z in perspective. -

BAD_NEWS_BEARGo to http://www.joeeitel.com/hsfoot/ then just select the year, Div. 5, Region 17 until 2011 then Region 19 for 2011 and 2012.

JACO, eloquently put. You are so right. It wasn’t about any one coach or player until Z.jaco;1315061 wrote:I'm a little harsher on Coach Z than some for the simple fact that he inherited a football rich program. JMAR it very obvious that you are passionate about the Waynedale football team. That’s great, & for what it’s worth, I commend your enthusiasm. The one thing though that I have a problem understanding is that you seem so concerned that parents bad mouth Z at home and on this thread and that the kids hear the “chatter” and then take a negative attitude with them to practice and on game night. The one thing you may not have thought about is all the negative talk about the next couple of years. Basically, you and maybe others have completely written off the next couple of years and placed the burden of a vintage Wayndale team solely on the freshman class. What do you think that does to the attitudes of next year’s juniors and seniors? This is one of the major problems I have with Z.
Three years ago he decided that he had 2 sophomores, Stanley & Strausbaugh (starting QB & RB as sophomores) & the rest of this years seniors that would lead Waynedale back to glory and he completely wrote off last years seniors and the seniors in the prior year. He was planning for this year. As I stated in my earlier post, for whatever the reason he didn’t utilize certain players to give lasts years team a chance to be more competitive or the team prior for that matter. Then when this year started off bad it became pretty obvious that the freshmen team was the next in line to carry the torch. What do you think that does to the upper classmen knowing and “hearing” that they don’t have any athletes and no chance of having a winning season next year? Should it motivate them?
It seems to me that now many people are once again willing to give up the next 1 or 2 years for hopes of a winning team when the freshmen class becomes juniors and seniors . That’s not leadership. A good leader makes every player from the fastest to the slowest and from the strongest to the weakest feel as if they have something to offer. With small numbers like we have, any player may only be one injury away from having to go out on the field. All players need to know that their coach has faith in them, but that’s just not the case with Z. I agree the next several years could be rough, but not because there’s no talent, but rather the lack of the type of coaching leadership that is required to get the most out of each player. Confidence can overcome a lot of obstacles, I’m guessing next year’s junior and seniors have very little confidence in themselves because of all the talk about the freshmen class. I could be wrong, it wouldn’t be the first time, but I would hate to think that there will be kids that have played since peewee who don’t go out for the team their junior or senior year because they figure that they don’t stand a chance of getting to compete. There is strength in numbers and if the numbers keep falling or stay small the chance of being a dominanta team is unlikely. Danville was a prime example of that. Several years ago when we played them they were always tough in the beginning of the season, but got wore down and beat up as the season progressed mainly because they didn’t have enough players to go around.
For the kids sake, I hope the Bears can turn it around regardless of who the coach is. -

The parents and friends directly effect an individual. I don't know about you but I think its typical that we act, talk, and are of the same opinions of those we are surrounded by at that age more than any other. If my father was always saying how stupid my coach was, how awful he is, how he can't run the program, ect...eventually... I'm going to believe it. If I'm at that point... forget it... I won't listen to the coach and I won't give him a chance or as seems to be the case, respect. I'll do my own thing instead of doing my job. That is deadly in a team sport like football. I think these comments made by the ones that surround our athletes is more poisonous than anything said by a stranger. Our foundation starts at home. These actions weaken our foundation and as we all know a house won't stand long without its foundation. Those types of things are all I've seen on here. A bunch of piling on. I've agreed time and time again that Z should get his share of the blame, but it isn't just Z. Some people need to look in the mirror and point the finger back at themselves, players/parents included.
I wouldn't say I've completely written off the next two years and I surely haven't crowned the freshmen as saviors yet. I don't want to come off negative and I'm trying to be as truthful as possible without being "mean". The problem looking ahead is that our problems in the future will be the same as now... Linemen. We lack a solid core of 3-4 tough, strong, smart, and quick linemen with 1 or 2 guys waiting in line to take their place. That's what made the previous teams so successful. To my knowledge there was only one Waynedale class where that wasn't the case and it took the 03' team until their senior year to get that. They were surrounded by no help. Everything I hear is that the freshmen class has the potential to do what that class did but they are lacking upfront. It's high school football... Lines matter more in HS than any other level of football. Something has to be done to address this and I'm not sure how to address this other than making the offense exclusively triple option to force the defense to slow up and play assignment football or move to spread so more emphasis is placed on positional blocking, but without the hogs up front... we won't see the vintage Waynedale power football that everyone so desperately craves.
I don't know how to say that any other way without "writing off" the next two years as you stated. The facts are we lack in the line department and outside of the couple freshmen and a couple juniors... who else has played, or has experience... I don't like to use jv because the emphasis should be on development and not really wins unless you have an older JV team and its an adjustment to go from Saturdays to Fridays that doesn't always translate but... We'll be counting on a lot of unknowns (to us outside of the team) to step up and play. They haven't had a lot of success in the last year or two in jv. Add in that adjustment time and I'm just not sure how you expect anything higher than a 4 or win season. My hope is that the coaches will have a strong off season and a plan in place to use what they have and it translates into a winning season. -

eyes r burningThis is D-4 football, it's about country boys wanting to play high school football, kicking _ss and having a litte fun. Not the pressure of D-1 collage and walking around on eggshells if the may utter a curse word, just let play I know some of the asst. coachs can get these boys to play if they were given the chance, but they look like fools in the boys eyes because they say this and it's like they are not even part of the staff, they are just like the boys part of the worst train wreck in history. This program will not recover from this, boys will go wrestling only, basketball only, baseball only. In a small school the football has to be the best recuriter an that isfar from the case in this district.
