To clear something up, PJ Quinn never was at Campbell. I believe he went to BCC and on to Mooney from there.

yes i agree but everyone in his family graduated from campbell...and his sister will more than likely be in the cmhs hall of fame. those are the types of kids that we need to keep in campbell. can someone clear up whats going on with zetts? is he leaving or not?
  • reddevil90
Soup my brother told me that he didn't take the job.. But i found out that the source my brother has was from struthers. But dont read into it that much, I know his source and he does not know much about the situation. so who knows.

All we can hope for is that Campbell treated him good and he is comfortable being a assistant. And from what i seen in week 10 he enjoyed whooping struthers AZZ

soupcitysoldier, I was just trying to clarify that PJ Quinn did not transfer from Campbell to Mooney. If he transfers to Campbell, it's okay with me. But until there are some facts that he is coming to Campbell, I consider this only a rumor. If Campbell has good senior leadership next season, I see no reason why we can't reach the postseason again. There is a lot of talent at Campbell. But leadership from seniors is important. I was told that Zetts was leaving a few weeks ago. I was also told that Chaney and East are on the schedule for next season. I talked to our A.D. That is not the case. Brookfield is on for another year and Salem is being replaced by Ashtabula Edgewood. East and Chaney are not on the schedule. Edgewood is not nearly as formidable as Salem.
  • cmhs_pride
Most Ashtabula teams are not Bigdean. We are going to have to go 10-0 to get a home playoff game. Unfortunate but true.

As for Ursuline courting one of our 8th graders (Phillips-QB), he might want to check and see that the Irish have a talented 9th grade QB who is already 6'3" or 6'4", a young man by the name of Chris Durkin. His father, same name, was one of the best athletes to come out of, not only Chaney high school, but this entire area. Just something to think about.

Hey if he leaves so be it. Wish him luck. He was a big part in turning this thing around. I'm sure there is someone out there itching to get a chance to show what they can do. I just hope we get someone with a better defensive scheme in mind. We had the offense but the defense all year was up and down. tackling was a big problem all year long. And it was not like we didn't have the players to make a great defense. If we do get Jim Haz it would help greatly on defense. a Minnie kinda defense has been missing for years. But that's if there is any possibility he would even entertain the thought. Plus the coaches dont even know him and would they even know him enough to ask? Well we have to wait and see how this all plays out. We seriously need some stability at coaching or we might start to see these kids wondering who is gonna be there when they get up to the varsity level. We preach to the kids to stay home now why do we have to do this with the coaches? Unreal. I hope Zetts stays he is great as a offensive coordinator..,

One more thing Zetts play calls with struthers was a thing of Beauty
  • reddevil90
Well Spread hate to disappoint you but it looks like the coaching staff is preparing for next years team. And here is a scary thought Hughes little brother is at the varsity level next year. And from what i heard he is as explosive as Ja'les and throws like Lester. But the problem he could be a distraction and also a problem to the team. As he got thrown off the 9th grade team. I hope Ja'les takes him under his wing and shows him how to use that pent up anger in a good way,...
  • soupcitysoldier
i hope the staff stays intact...it would be nice to have some continuity. any new word on zetts? motrell has some maturity issues to deal with before he can be depended on.

From the post i seen On campbell's facebook looks like Our head coach Loves his position at campbell. He is sounding like he is excited about next year as we have a very strong Nucleus coming back. They talked about Ja'les going for the career Rushing record next year "i think Ja'les will smash it" and how coach needs to turn the Juniors into senior leaders.. But it does not say anything about Coach Zetts. I hope he stays. But i really wish they would look for a better defensive coordinator!! 3 years and our defense got a little better but nothing that stand out.
  • sonnyblack
    Shawn Patton's career rushing total (source:Vindy): 3,429 yds and 45 td's.
Ja'les is over 2,000 counting his sophomore season (any one know how many yards he had as a soph?), so he should break the record assuming he stays healthy. He could really distance himself if Campbell has a nice playoff run next year.
  • soupcity99
How many years was Patton the go to guy?

I like what the red devils have coming back next year. Hopefully they will continue to get better and let last years ending fuel a good offseson. As far as the PJ Quinn situation. I believe he was Cardinal Mooney starting qb atleast from the Playoff game against ST V's which was on tv. So I imagine he would stay put.
  • soupcitysoldier
from what i understand him starting that game was not the norm...the sophomore is the go to guy on that team in terms of qb

soup, you are right. McGuire was the starting QB for most of this season for Mooney. Quinn only played during mop up time in games or when McGuire was hurt. While attending a funeral earlier this week, I was told that Brandon Reyes has been promised the starting QB job at Campbell next season by one of his relatives.

I recall a kid named Penny being the starter as well before an injury I believe, so if neither graduated look for Quinn to be the 3rd option for them.

Also, I'm related to Brandon, I haven't heard anything about a definate promise, but I would assume he would have to be the frontrunner for the job considering his experience. He was the jv starter all season and led them to a successful year, even showing poise through adversity as he threw a final play touchdown pass to beat struthers early in the year. He can run too.

Thanks to all of you who attended the gridiron club spaghetti dinner last Sunday. You support is always appreciated.

Also, I'd like to give a warm welcome to our newest family member, omemorialhigh....always nice to see some new faces. Welcome aboard.

Here is the fact...the man on that team over on Erie Street is Courtney Love. A six foot plus, 190 pound plus man in a boys body with a brain to match it. This kid is a phenomenol kid, student, and athlete all in one and I can tell you that from dealing with him on a regular basis. Fine young man. PJ's family decision is a painful one. I hope he plays DB because he is not playing QB.

I also hope Mr. Reyes can get it done. I hope he works hard in the off season and I look forward to next year already. Go Devils.

THATS THE KID!! He's the cousin to the Penny's that went to Campbell. He's a manchild.

According to the Tribune Chronicle 2010 preview magazine, Ja'les rushed for 380 yards as a soph.

Patton was the go to guy his sophomore year fellas. Keep this in mind......that team had a very good defense only allowing approx. 122 points on the year...but their offense was very young. Sean Smith was the QB carrying part of the load. Lamart Baldwin saw little time and Vince Farmintino caught an occasional pass. But Patton was the guy. I am positive he had more carries his sophomore year than JA'les did.

Letsgodevils....you are correct. He actually comes to me with the youngest Penny and a few other kids. His dad I believe has the club in downtown Ytown. Like the Phillips kid in the 8th grade...I don't know what kids and their parents are thinking sometimes if indeed they are sending their kids somewhere because they are promised a position. Now if they are going because that is where they want to go then so be it. But kids....PARENTS.....make sure you are getting what you are promised because their are 70 plus kids on those teams all contending for a position.

Chris Durkins son is the QB at Ursuline for the next three years. Maybe i am wrong...but Mr. Phillips....you better look into what I am saying. If you go to Ursuline...brush up one of two things...your bench skills or your DB skills. Because that is where you are playing son.

Kudos to Ja'les for making All Ohio as a junior. Sikora and Guidos deserved better recognition. Benedis deserved some too. I can't believe he was not even mentioned. He played very well this season.
