CAMPBELL MEMORIAL 2011
-
Struthers FanIt's good to see that Campbell has been restored to it's former greatness these past few years. The talent was always there; just needed the right coaches. The great fan base is also coming back.Joining the AAC was perfect for Campbell and Struthers. However, going from 3 tiers to 2 will KILL Struthers. Will be difficult to compete against the likes of Howland, Canfield, Poland, etc. Open enrollment doesn't help this matter either. Hopefully we won't be forced to look elsewhere.Good luck to Campbell in 2011. {Except against Struthers}

reddevil90Last years Struthers Campbell Game felt like the old days... Fans going crazy players fighting for the win. Man it was wonderful
-
sonnyblackJust watched Ja'les Hughes's highlight video on Scoutingohio.com, if he works on his speed this offseason, look out!
-
reddevil90The kid would be so dangerous if he had the speed!! he has more moves then i can count. and he is one hard cookie to bring down.. i hope he builds his leg muscles up!! If that kids gets his speed in the 4:40's or low 4:50s man that would set off a explosion of offense!!!!!!!
-
lets_go_devils90 my lappers jacked so I'm havin a hell of a time gettin those games up...
Sidenote: I heard 5 or 6 Devils were chosen to play in the Jack Arvin All-Star Game. More info once I find out for sure. Also, for those that don't know, John Sikora will represent Campbell Memorial in the North-South Game at Ohio State at the end of April.
Congrats to our boys! -
realdeal6Im hoping alot of our seniors including J'ales are down in the weight room working. I am hearing otherwise but I hope it is not true. They have so much talent returning and a couple nice players coming up it would be a real shame. Is Dom Patton playing for Campbell this season after transferring back?
-
reddevil90I hope At least one Patton would return to Knapick Field. Its a Shame that one Patton became a Bull Dog. But I'm not saying it was a bad decision. Because we all know back then when he transferred Campbell was not the same team that use to be fielded when his pops played.
As far as Ja'les and the rest of the 2011 squad is concerned they better do something. Ja'les better not get big headed and think he will have the same openings as he did in 2010. Cause that team had some of the best run blockers we have seen in many years. I hope he reads this and listens to us. I would say to him you will only be as good as your dedication in the off season. And you will only achieve as much as you put into it.
One thing to remember is that Campbell was not in 2010 the best team in the area. Heck they were at best a lucky team. There wins came at mediocre teams!! And they lost to a team that was better. One thing that could have helped Campbell last year would have been a healthy Skevo. The Salem game would have been different if he was on the field. Also it was very evident that in the second round players had there mind on basketball. There was players practising basketball when they should have been concentrating on the second round. and no matter how much this 2010 put Campbell back on the map. They will be at least in my mind as the team that quit in the playoffs. And who got shafted by a old friend of mine and a one time Campbell great!!! -
reddevil90Lets_Go my friend you know im not worried about it bro. I will make a special trip down to your house and fix your lappers if you want to set up a date. I work on computers on the side. I also use to own G&S computers in Youngstown back in the late 90's.. We never advertised because most of our income came from Adelphia and time Warner and Armstrong. I use to back then when Cable Internet was making its way into our homes.I installed network cards in there customer's computer. i was a sub contractor for the most part....

My take on this is that Campbell was the best team in the AAC-Blue in 2010. The win over Martins Ferry in the first round of the playoffs was a step in the right direction because Campbell had not won a playoff game since 1990. That's a long time. Akron Manchester must have watched some film on the Devils and noticed that we were vulnerable to the pass. Keep in mind that Manchester's QB was just a sophomore and he shredded that pass defense. From what I've been told the numbers in the weightroom are very marginal. Campbell will need some seniors to step up and become leaders. The Red Devils had a good group of seniors for the most part last season. The lack of senior leadership will definitely be a problem. So far, I've had a conversation with just one of the senior'sto be who states that he is ready to step up into a leadership roll. He is our kicker. -
wghfanCondolences to the Soroka family, and the Campbell community. Very shocking, and sad news.
-
YtownIrishPrayers to the school staff, students, the entire Campbell community, and of course the Soroka family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
-
lets_go_devilsFor those that may be confused....
This was former head coach (1994) Mickey Soroka, not current head coach Mickey Sikora. Heard a couple people were under that impression. Names are eerily similar to each other though.
RIP Coach....you're already greatly missed. -
realdeal6I have also heard numbers in the weight room are also low. The majority being sophmores and a couple seniors including the kicker. The biggest concern is that J'ales hasnt seen the weightroom all winter long. Your best players need to also be your hardest workers. If not it will be another "what if" season. I hope they turn it around and the numbers pick up. It would be nice to get J'ales, Dom patton, Montrell, and the rest of them in the weight room/conditioning so that we can continue to build on our recent success.

omemorialhigh"I made all-state and I never lifted, why would I lift now?-Jales Hughes
-
reddevil90Figures!!! Look if that is what he said and you quoted him here is a reason!!! One he was not that fast he got caught a lot last year. I'm not wrong it's on video. if he hit the weight room last year he would have at least 4 or 5 more td's and another god knows how many yards. he is very strong but that all-state he can thank his run blockers for opening up some really big holes for him. I love his confidence but that will only get you so far. lets see what happens without him hitting the weight room this year and without those extremely talented hole makers. he should know that he will have to work even harder this year to get those yards again and set the record that nobody will ever touch. good luck Ja'les but I'm very disappointed at him if this is true... He is by all means the leader and suppose to set the example!!! Not the kicker.
-
reddevil90One other thing. I do not believe i will be getting any more videos to put up on the Red Devil Football YouTube channel unless something changes. I had a order for the 85 87 88 91 92 93 and 99 seasons a few days before what happen to Coach. I had a few extra bucks leftover from my taxes!! I wanted to complete the ED Rozum era!! I could not find a better way to spend almost $400 on. So I'm just very grateful for the ones i got. Coach will be sadly missed.
-
sonnyblackSome of the guys mentioned above are running track, and we all know that most wont go to lifting until its mandatory.
-
reddevil90Track Is very good for building leg strength. i hope this helps him get a little more speed out of those tiny legs.. LOL. He is a very strong kid for his size. And with the first Patton to play on Knapick field since 89 this could be a fun season to watch. Does anyone know for sure if Patton will play or go elsewhere?
-
sonnyblackDominic is running track, so i assume he will be on the field next season.
-
reddevil90Is Patton a senior? and what happens with Ja'les? does he become a QB. or how will this season tune out? I'm a little optimistic but also a little worried? all the pieces where there last year at the first game and second game. with the loss of Skevo really did put a hamper on Campbell's sped. I'm not saying Campbell was not that fast but Skevo was without a doubt the fastest on the team and the most talented in the run skills. Is Dominic like his dad? I assume he will follow his brother as wide receiver. But man Ja'les And Dominic in the back field wold just destroy the all American conference. without a doubt.

I believe there will be a competition during the summer between Brandon Reyes and Montrell Hughes for the QB spot. From what I have been told, Dominic is fast but he does not possess the moves that his brother had. I am confident that if Skevo had played the entire season, he would have been selected All-Ohio. The 2011 Red Devils need to replace some good sized offensive linemen and two very good linebackers. And Sikora became a real asset when he started lining up at fullback. He helped open those holes Ja'les ran through last season. Campbell has some depth in the backfield with Shawdale Ray and Charles Smith.
I talked to #59 McWilson and he tells me that he is going to play both offensive and defensive line this coming season. Maybe Sean Burnett will also be a two way lineman this season. There are two big kids coming up who will be sophomores. Both are named Kelly. I believe Campbell also has a transfer from Ursuline. I am not sure what position he plays. Campbell has quite a bit of talent. But I will feel better as soon as I hear that some of the seniors to be are stepping up into leadership roles. We did lose some good seniors last season. -
MorgansRaidersDo any Red Devil fans know what the scrimmage schedule is for this summer? Thanks.

Not aware of any dates yet, but I know Martins Ferry is supposed to make the trip up for a live scrimmage. I'm assuming we'll have the usual Springfield one as well, hopefully at home this year.
Morgans, I know you have new schools. Did they build a new stadium as well? -
MorgansRaidersNo, the stadiums is still behind the "old" South Range high school. Maybe some day we will build a new one....the state doesn't help pay for those.
Yeah, I was wondering if the Springfield scrimmage was being played this year. Friend of mine checked it out last year, both common opponents for us. -
reddevil90I hear the Ja'les is not being a leader and taking charge as a leader!! He is by far the most recognized player in red devil uniform in the last 20 years at tail back. You would think he would step up and lead by example.. I mean i found out through a good friend of mine in Campbell that the kicker is going around bugging them to lift. If this is true!! I hope coach gets on him about this and the rest of the seniors that plan on playing. Its not that easy to just say I'm all in when practise starts but leave me alone while i hang with my friends in the off season. Plus another thing that bothers me is some of the seniors and juniors are not doing to good with grades and also causing trouble. Wow i hope this gets straitened out ASAP!! It sounds like somethings are going back to what it was when Bayuk took over.
i also understand that some are running track. But from what i also hear is Ja'les looked a little slow and not the fastest on the team. that would be Patton. i just talked to my friend that went to a some track meets and practises. he needs to build those legs up! He would shave off some of that time of his 4'40!! He got caught alot after breaking open last year. it amazes me how he got so many moves and is a treat to watch braking off tackle's. but if he just has that breakaway speed to boot OMG this kid would be a super all American!!!
Im just worried i guess. I also got a interview in Youngstown and that would mean i would have to send my son to either Campbell or Struthers!! i know i know Struthers!! But i have to find a place that is affordable. But he has told me that he cant see himself as a wildcat! And it would also drive me nuts to miss Campbell games and attend Struthers games.. Uggggaaaaa!! But i have not found a decent priced apartment or house to rent yet.
