CAMPBELL MEMORIAL 2011

Hmm I didn't notice that one. Good eye dean. Shaq is definitely on the team it's obviously an error on the Vindy's part. The roster was takin right from the Blitz.

    you got everyone nervous lol
  • BigDean1
I just came in off the ledge. I'll see you dudes tomorrow morning.

I am wondering the same thing why is there freshman on the Varsity??? But i'm glad that Shaq's name was just not put on the Blitz roster. You have to remember Blitz is notorious for there mistakes and had Ja'les i think as a senior and skevo as a senior 2 years ago.. And there names showed up twice. And Ja'les had been pinned in as #2 and so was his brother Lester... See you all tomorrow. already gassed up the car...
  • BigDean1
I saw Ja'les at Nicky's Pizzera last week and he said he is changing his number to #2. If any of the freshman actually suit up for a game, I would like to see Steve O'Dea on the kickoff team. The kid is going to be a beast. Ideally, I would prefer to see the freshmen not on the varsity.

Is tomorrow a game situation game? And is it a preview game?

There's always 4 or 5 freshman that get to dress varsity. The last ones to actually see much playing time were John and Lester - with John handling the long snap duties and Lester as the backup QB behind Dario. This staff likes to let the kids get a feel for Friday nights before they are called upon. This helps to ease that transition a bit.

In my opinion, that group of freshmen on the roster will be a force in a couple years. Will Morris is an absolute stud and so is O'Dea.

I believe it is just the usual scrimmage. 10 plays on offense then change of possession. Last season vs. East they did practice some kickoffs. But there were no returns.

I remember back in 1996 when we traveled to Struthers for a Scrimmage against the Kittys... It was a full rehearsal game! 2 quarters of game like situations. Refs and all. Was like a real game but only one half... I believe it was to allow the rivalry back and see how everyone responded to it.. And the following year Struthers returned to the schedule full time.. And was not happy with the week one and two set up.. And glad it went back to week 10.. Now that is in jeopardy once again... To me week 10 is tradition with bonfires and all kinds of mischief.. Well the mischief it gone compared to what we did back in the 70's and 80's..... I know some people got some real stories... Also remember a time when the visitors concession stand was burnt up. and many many people pined it on Struthers when in fact it was not...

Wow is right I dnt knw where to start what you said omemorialhigh sums it up best
  • reddevil90
I have to admit this team is better then i thought. Wow they hit hard.

Any worrying I had has been put to rest. This team is for real.

Campbell Memorial dominated Youngstown East. It looks like the Devils were working on the passing game in this scrimmage. Reyes had a couple of touchdown passes to Patton and Rushton. Campbell is quick on defense and the kids are really flying to the ball. East was unable to mount much of an offense at all. Devils need to work on picking up the blitz a little. I still feel they can be a little more aggressive on defense. But believe me, they do get to the ball. Alex Sudakov narrowly missed a 51 yard field goal. The kid had the distance. But it was just a little to the right of the upright. He will be just another weapon of many. East may have a long year although they may still be trying to jell as a team with the influx of the Chaney kids. Coach Shaner does a good job and I wish the Panthers well. For Campbell, it's week one next Friday vs. Mineral Ridge.

this team is for real...and the word is out. the scrimmage was packed with people. sikora has done a wonderful job, and the testament to that is this year. were supposed to have a down year getting ready for next year and im thinking we can do some serious damage now. overall this team may be better than last years...only reason being the defense. i dont think were as good defensively and the offensive line needs to gel, but wow is the defense going to be great. no one will run on us. i just worry about being over aggressive, south range will know how to play to this.

soup, I know what you are saying. The quickness on defense sometimes leads to over pursuit. A solid team may try to exploit it. I still like what I see on defense. And the offense is going to put up some points. Our two biggest offensive linemen were lining up on the same side. But I am sure we did not show everything we have. I am looking forward to next Friday.

I will be making a presentation at the 1st gridiron meeting after the first game under new business. It will be a proposal to enhance the stadium as well as display 2 of our greatest accomplishments on the football field. I have done some research and I still am researching, but I would hope as many of you as possible can show up to give it some support.
  • soupcitysoldier
A new player will be playing for the Devils soon, also why did Padilla and Gentry leave the team...Lets Go can you shed some light

I'll be there to support you even though you are a Yankee fan.

Wish i could be there to support you also.. But That's just a little more driving then i can handle... But i wish you luck... There needs to be banners of SVC Championships and MVC Championships. And the 89 State Runner up... names of Players.. But one thing at a time. If we can just get one that would be accomplishment in its self...

Pretty much sums it up. I, too, was quite impressed with the defense. This team has the potential to be downright SCARY.
  • reddevil90
Is it Friday yet? Also we have not mentioned that Reyes has very good accuracy and is not afraid to tuck it in and run if no one is open!! And the kid can run and has some moves for a QB... Ja'les was Ja'les! Any doubt about opining up holes for him is squashed. The D for east was not small.. Now we just need to make sure we protect the ball and play as a team.. I was afraid but now I'm feeling very very confident. Omemorial even gave his Stamp of approval i see. and I seen dean has too. And they both where the ones staying optimistic but very cautious. But we seen enough to know this is not just another good devils team. This Defence is gonna put a hurting on some teams boys! I also agree with Soup about being over aggressive on defence. And the offence needs to hold the line a little better to and as Lets Go said at the scrimmage they need to get better on the right side of the offence!! I think we all can say we left today's scrimmage with a good feeling about the season...
  • BigDean1
It's great to hear so much optimism and it's with good reason. But I still am a bit cautious. Why? Let's first see how these kids handle adversity during a game. Eventually it will come. It might not be next week. But it will come. How they handle it will be a key to the entire season. That being said, I am very impressed with the front four and the speed of the entire defense. One concern I do have is the depth on the offensive line. Stay healthy.
