All I know is Martins Ferry was impressed with us during the playoff game last season and was interested in either scrimmaging or playing Campbell in the regular season in the future. MF is D-4 this year. Personally, I would rather play them instead of Ashtabula Edgewood any day. MF can be counted on for some wins. Edgewood cannot.

Heard some very good things about the Devils. Stayed pretty basic. Should get a better gauge on Tuesday vs East.

really impressed. need some work, but things are looking bright.

Really??? That's great.. When is the next Scrimmage.. I should be able to make that one... I got 2 weeks vacation saved up and i have 6 sick days and 3 personal... i need to use by sept 13th or they reset.. lol My son had a Scrimmage today with Struthers i have some footage of that.. He flattened 3 struthers defenders and 2 sacks and one of the sacks was a forced fumble... I'm very very proud of him... Also Struthers had a rough start but got real tough in the middle of scrimmage. They ended up tied if you consider it a tie in scrimmage,... There Qb look bigger then last year ... But anyways. I can not wait for Campbell next Scrimmage!! Its East i beliave right? what time and day if anyone knows...

Campbell looked sharp on offense for the first couple of series. Then things seemed to slow down some. But it's nothing that I would not expect for a first scrimmage. All in all I was impressed with the number of athletes Campbell has, their team speed, and their size on both sides of the ball. Springfield has very small numbers, less than 30 players dressed, which is unusual for them. Letlow impressed me at safetu on defense as did Charles Smith at linebacker. QB Reyes has a nice arm. The secondary looks like it needs some work and the receivers need to run better routes to get open more often. But like I said, this is about what I would expect for a first scrimmage.....very basic stuff. This Thursday vs. East we should see a little more of what Campbell has. East always comes to play.

Awesome news BigDean... That's what i wanted to hear is some good news for once.. I will be able to make that one for sure.... I was wondering what position did Patton play and how did Ja'les do with his new blockers?
  • soupcitysoldier
Jales looks strong and primed for another big year. The offensive line play was a pleasant surprise. The defensive line is going to be pretty special. Wow. Letlow looks like a force. The linebackers need some work, was clinkscale out there? or is he off the team. I am not worried about the defensive backs. Rushton and Patton werent out there together once. Once they are we will be fine. Reyes...boy the kids got some talent. Can really move and break defenses down. Will be very effective in short to mid range passing...will not be as good as lester with the deep ball, but i expect him to take off more than lester did last year. Looks like an athlete. Overall, I was really impressed. Compared to last years Springfield scrimmage I would take this one. I think we are not as explosive on offense but we will be markedly better on defense. I was most impressed by Shawndale Ray, boy hes fast and a legit running back. He would start for many other teams. He will take reps from Jales...Id say hes faster than Jales. Good problem to have. If anyone thought we were rebuilding returning only 8 starters they were wrong. This team will have some lumps...but were going to be fine. Also, I dont understand any talk about a qb controversy...Motrell is not ready.

We were also wondering about the status of Clinkscale. I do know that he was not out their at LB. Sudakov was absent too, although kicking was not a part of this scrimmage, except for a few extra point tries and field goal attempts prior to the actual scrimmage starting by the Springfield kicker. I am putting a wait and see on the offense and how explosive it can be. We saw just the basic vanilla stuff out there this morning and I am sure coach Zetts has some tricks up his sleeve. I did not notice if Patton and Rushton were both at corner on defense at the same time. But if soupcitysoldier says that's the case, then it is. Regarding the supposed QB controversy, I don't see one. Reyes is the QB.

I'm gonna post some Struthers and Creek footage i got today tonight or tomorrow if anyone is interested.... Its not much cause the security would not allow me to video anything until the coach told them i was allowed.. By that time there was only about 30 minutes left... But i really wanted to be at Campbell but work and my son comes first... But i got to test out my camera skills and i need to work on it a little bit more lol. But not bad from what i can tell... But it felt good to see some high school football again...
Patton lined up at wide receiver on offense and at cornerback on defense. Ja'les did fine.

Four Games........no disrespect to anyone else because you HAVE TO play ten.... but here is the make or break...

    1. Struthers
    2. South Range
    3. Liberty
    4. Girard

We handle ourselves in those four and the rest will take care of itself. Not saying we automatically win the other 6. I'm saying these are the four I know right now we better bring our A game.

As for the scrimmage.......you know it was the first look. At times we seemed sharp. At times we didnt. But I believe some things are done on purpose. Reyes' arm is very nice and he can move. I will say this......Shawndale Raye needs to carry that ball at least 6 or 7 times a game if not more.
  • Ohio
Id prolly throw brookfield in there over liberty returning their entire team who played campbell pretty tough last year

Ask on here.. I have been a fan of Shawndale Ray since i seen him in the scrimmage game last year. And the very few times that he carried the ball last year he was a beast. He fumbled the ball on his way into the end zone in a game last year.. That was the last time he touched the ball accept in mop up! He drove the ball down the field with authority!! I hope he is only a Junior cause i would love to see him in a full time position at tailback...

But as far as the team goes i think as long as they don't 94 it up they will be in the hunt this year. It just nice to hear that people are talking up the devils defence for once. Its been a very long time since i heard Strong defence in 20 years. A good defence wins games.

I agree pride. Three of the games you mention are on the road. South Range will be a good test. They have a lot of kids back, have good size, and are well coached. Something tells me Coach Zetts is creative enough to the point where he'll get Shawdale Rey into the mix offensively. It's nice to have a "problem" where there are enough good athletes at the skill positions to the point they can become interchangeable parts of the offense.
  • lets_go_devils
I would definately throw LaBrae into that mix as well. I believe this the year they open up some eyes.

    1. Struthers
    2. Girard
    3. South Range
    4. Brookfield
    5. LaBrae

Those are the 5 games that will decide Campbell's fate this year. If they get past these teams unscathed, the sky is the limit.
