Cleveland Browns 2011 Super Awesome In-Season Thread

Holmgren has a bit of respect around the league so he could be considered somewhat of a "draw." Even a Garcon would open up the offense.SportsAndLady;1027694 wrote:Just call me skeptical I guess..I just don't think a GM is going to convince a bunch of free agents to come here, but we'll see I guess..
A passing attack would SO open up the running game. That's why I hope they get the receivers, re-sign Hillis at the right price and Shurmur uses him (Hillis) correctly. -

Yeah, but what you don't read is how much their seeing eye dogs disagree.BR1986FB;1027695 wrote:You'd be surprised how many people over there defend Pashos as "not that bad." -

Carolina 2010 total offense: 32ndSportsAndLady;1027659 wrote:Hell look at Newton and Carolina this year..7-9 at best and they have all those weapons
Carolina 2011 total offense: 4th
The only "weapons" added besides Cam Newton were Naanee (#3 WR) and Shockey (backup TE). They're (at least) 5 wins better than a year ago.
If the Browns post a top 5 offense next season they would be Super Bowl contenders. That isn't going to happen, but there's no reason that a significant upgrade at QB couldn't result in 8-9 wins.
They wouldn't be super bowl contenders, but they'd compete in the division. -

Steve Smith is also healthy this season.Mulva;1027895 wrote:Carolina 2010 total offense: 32nd

I never said they added weapons?
I simply said they have a bunch of weapons for Newton. But you did leave out Steve Smith who is their biggest weapon and healthy again. Him Olsen Shockley naanee deangelo Williams Jonathan Stewart I mean they're loaded with weapons.
Browns aren't winning shit til they get that kinda offense around whatever qb they have. -
MulvaIf they're loaded with weapons, but didn't add weapons, that means they were loaded with weapons last year too. And they finished dead last in total offense. It was almost totally because their QB play sucked.

You don't think the weapons on the panthers this year were different than last years team?
Hell, just Steve Smith healthy again is all I need to prove that point -

at first when we were out of contention for luck i blew it of about trading a shit ton of picks to trade up and get him. but as the season draws to a close and st louis is in position for the number one spot it feels more and more realistic of us trading up to get him, and im actually warming up to the idea. we could get us one or two receivers in the free agency period and grab some other pieces. the framework is there for our defense and our offense could be drastically increased here in the next 4 months. but know our luck, colts will lose and draft luck, rgIII won't come out and return to school. its cleveland its the way shit happens around here. but maybe just maybe the cards will fall our way this year.DeyDurkie5;1027952 wrote:andrew luck! andrew luck! andrew luck! -

They aren't that much better. Smith was hampered by injury last year, but you act like he missed 10 games. He was on the field, he just wasn't 100%. The bigger issue was that he didn't have anyone to get him the ball.SportsAndLady;1027934 wrote:You don't think the weapons on the panthers this year were different than last years team?

My point is, Carolina had Clausen and Moore post QBRs of 55 and 58. Sometimes all it takes is a competent QB to make average weapons look a little better than average. Shockey (at this point in his career), Lafell, and Naanee aren't elite weapons. Smith is a beast, and the Williams/Stewart combo has always been good - but Steve Smith going from 80% to 100% healthy doesn't jump you from dead last in offense to top 5.
It's not crazy to think that a playmaking QB could make the Browns offense a lot better. They obviously don't have the pieces to be elite, but they have enough to not be a bottom 5 offense in the league with the right guy running the show. -

If you watched any games last year and any games this year, there is a CLEAR night and day difference betwen 2010 Steve Smith and 2011 Steve Smith. The guy's going to be in Pro Bowl consideration this year, and he's a pro bowl caliber WR, just was hampered by injuries all last year.Mulva;1028172 wrote:They aren't that much better. Also, Deangelo Williams was hurt a lot of last year. He only had 87 carries, which was actually third on the team.
Then you add in Greg Olsen, Jeremy Shockey, and Legedu Naanee and you have 3 additional weapons to a healthy squad.
I mean I absolutely agree that a playmaking QB could amke the Browns offense a lot better, but to say the Panthers just added Newton and they were all of a sudden a top 5 offense is asinine. They added pieces and got a lot of pieces back from injury. -

John Telich already mentioned a potential landing destination to be Cleveland. He'd be the only legit vertical threat on the roster. Too bad he can't catch balls....at least "foot" balls.shook_17;1028037 wrote:lol braylon edwards has been cut by the 49ers

Pick6You guys want Holmgren gone? You are just asking to start over again. The Browns will get there in due time under him.
