I agree. But if decide to wait another year to draft a QB, why not try to upgrade in the meantime?BR1986FB;1032542 wrote:If they are going to start over I'd prefer it be with one of the top 2 prospects (Luck or RG3). I don't get the warm fuzzies about Flynn and I don't want a stopgap retread (Orton, Campbell, etc like they tried with Delhomme).
I'm not a big fan of Flynn, but if he looks to be a better option than McCoy and they can't get Griifin, I don't see the downside, unless he demands too much money, which I don't think is likely. -

Because if they invest in a guy like Flynn, Holmgren is likely going to stick with him and pass on a QB in 2013. That being said, Barkley is probably going to be the only QB worth a piss next year and the Browns won't be drafting THAT high.thedynasty1998;1032578 wrote:I agree. Someone brought this to my attention which I COMPLETELY forgot about....remember in 2007 in the season opener when Charlie Frye got sacked about 5x's by the Steelers in an early season blowout? Browns fans were screaming "OMG, OMG...O-Line sucks !!!"like_that;1032534 wrote:They did seem to get better toward the end of this season.
Derek Anderson, far from a worldbeater, comes in the next week with his quick release and stuns the world and the Bengals in week 2. Derek Anderson may have had less experience than Charlie Frye, at that point.
Derek Anderson was sacked MAYBE 14x's that season and the Browns had, many believed, the best pass blocking line in the NFL.
How could this BE? Chuckles McBallSack played behind THE WORST O-Line in the NFL in week 1 !!!! You can't be telling me they went from "worst to first" in a week?
Bottom line...Frye held the ball too long and stared down his receivers. SO does McCoy. Put a quick release, decisive (not saying DA was a good decision maker) QB back there and that line is more than adequate. The pocket is only "breaking down" after he's had his 2.5 seconds to throw, holds on another 2 seconds (way too long for a QB to be holding the ball) and gets sacked. -
BR1986FB-- Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Phil Taylor, who played with Robert Griffin III at Baylor before the Browns drafted him in 2011, believes that his former (and possibly future) teammate is scheme-transcendent — throw away all that "spread offense" talk just as everyone eventually had to do with Cam Newton.
"He's the type of athlete that could fit into any system," Taylor said. "He can run, he can pass. He can take snaps under the center, shotgun; whatever you need, he can do. I can't wait to see where he goes, I know he's going to go high. Wherever he goes, it's going to be a perfect fit for him… They said the same thing about Cam — 'Is he gonna adapt to the system?' And he's doing great right now with Carolina. They may not have won many games, but he's still doing good for a rookie quarterback. I think [Griffin] will, too."
The Browns currently hold the fourth overall draft pick, they could draft as high as third, and indications are that they might be convinced to draft over Colt McCoy if the right guy was on the board. Griffin, who won the 2011 Heisman Trophy, is a junior who has not made his declaration about coming out for the draft. [Akron Beacon-Journal]

Crimson streakThe more I watch and read about rg3 the more I want him. I think he is going to be a beast and could take this offense to levels we have never seen
-
ts1227It just ran across the bottom of ESPN as breaking news that Mort is reporting RG3 is saying he'll declare for the draft.

Also said the Browns are interested in Brad Childress for O-Coordinator.ts1227;1033101 wrote:It just ran across the bottom of ESPN as breaking news that Mort is reporting RG3 is saying he'll declare for the draft. -

That is interesting.BR1986FB;1033127 wrote:Also said the Browns are interested in Brad Childress for O-Coordinator.
Favre destested him because he thought Chilly didn't know shit and was clueless as a playcaller, and that he knew the West Coast better than he did.
Chilly also has a reputation for being a major control freak. I wonder how that would play in Shurmur's offense as he is wired the same way.
Since they are from the family tree I could see it being possible, but Childress has never shown much as an offensive mind in my opinion as he didn't call the plays as O-Coordinator in Philly, and until Favre showed up the Vikings were majorly pedestrian offensively.
For an O-Coordinator I would actually like a younger guy with a fresher more aggressive/innovative outlook toward playcalling. We can find someone with a west coast background, but we are running a terribly antiquated version of it and a fresh set of eyes/perspective is badly needed. -
wes_mantoothblah...I want no part of Childress.
-
Crimson streakHe might not be too bad as an o cord. I actually like the move cause it means they realized shurmer was in over his head
-
iclfan2Holmgren has already said that they will be hiring an O coord. He realizes how stupid that was. However, he also said that the Shurmur would continue to call the plays, so I don't see Childress wanting to do that.

Wasn't trying to be. What else would his ex teammate say about him publicly? Also you know as well as I do that drafting RG3 with their first pick would be a big mistake.BR1986FB;1033231 wrote:Just posting info as I see it. No need to be a dick. -

I brought this up a few weeks ago and got blasted. The kid isn't a project QB, he was recruited AS A QB to A&M. He made the switch to WR a couple years ago because the coaching staff thought (name escapes me) was a better option because he could make plays with his feet. Watch the tape, not just one game, but a few of 'em. Really watch it. The kid can play, make all the throws, and can drop the ball on a dime from 30 yards away on the run. He's going to climb some boards between now and draft day, book it.BR1986FB;1032447 wrote:Now another option I could see, if the Browns hire Mike Sherman as their offensive coordinator, is Ryan Tannehill with their second 1st rounder. -

Not worth a first round pick sorry. -
IggyPride00Peter King had Peyton Hillis as #1 on his list of top 5 stars playing their final game in X team's uniform this week. Florio disagreed.
I hope Hillis is back next year as I don't see where an upgrade to him is readily available, and there is no sense creating a hole at a position where there currently isn't one.
He has shown enough the past few weeks that they should pay him for 2-3 years and move on with it. -

what prospective offensive coordinator would want the job without the ability to call plays?iclfan2;1033407 wrote:Holmgren has already said that they will be hiring an O coord. That may be your opinion for the Browns but he's likely going to be a first rounder.like_that;1033446 wrote:Not worth a first round pick sorry. -
MulvaMatt Flynn is doing a great job of selling himself today. I hope Holmgren isn't watching. 400 yards and 5 TD.
