Cleveland Browns 2011 Super Awesome In-Season Thread
-
Mr MiyagiIt looks like the Browns are going to have the 6th pick in the 2011 draft, possibly the 5th depending on tie breaker situation with Arizona. I think most of us Browns fans would like to trade down but if the Browns cannot trade down , any opinions on who they will or should pick ?
they have SO many holes to fill , but a stud pass rusher would really help, I also think 6th pick is to high for WR that will be available ( i think A J Green will be gone ) defensive side? offensive side? free agent wish lists? -
wes_mantoothIf AJ Green is gone, then Julio Jones I think...
a playmaker on offense is so important. Whatever they do, they need to have a nice draft like last year. -
Mr Miyagias of right now most so called experts have julio jones around the 15 ,16 pick range and doubt they will pick him that high. green will probably go #2, don't get me wrong I really like jones and everything can change come April
-
JesterWR or DE. Either one would be fine with me. Just depends on who's gone/available and who you think could still be there in the later rounds. Jones, Green, Blackmon, Bowers, Clayborn, etc.

Mr Miyagilistening to Rizz last week and he mentioned some rumour about Holmgren as HC with Fox as the Def.cord, and Childress as th O.C. .......Don,t know if these rumours have any merit though

If that is true, then I hope they trade back and get him...but it is tough to get value for your pick anymore. -
charliehustle14Cleveland is in desperate need of a pass catching threat. I think Mo Mass and Robo are fine, but Stuckey just doesn't cut it. If they don't go with a WR in the first round, there should be other solid options in the middle rounds (Broyles, Hankerson, Titus Young, Torrey Smith, to name a few)

Rizzo is a blithering idiot. He's the moron that started the Bill Cowher's house in Strongsville BS a few seasons back. -
shook_17i think its aj green. we need a playmaker at the wide out position. unless we can get a vincent jackson or sidney rice in here via free agency (which would be great) i would glady give them ten million a year. if we could get a stud in FA, then i would get the best LT or RT and put them on the right side of the line.

OQBWell first off we have to know who our head coach is and who will be his offensive/defensive coordinators. I really like what Rob Ryan has done with our defense, which if I might add has kept us in just about every single game this season but this last one. I don't believe Mangini is the problem, we have improved these past 2 seasons and honestly just need a new offensive genius that can get some guys to score....which we don't have many offensive threats. Haden has been playing like a pro bowl CB, and everyone else is holding down their own on defense....we just need some more youth and athletic ability in the front 7 to get a pass rush....we need to get some depth at those spots.
I think a #1 WR is our top priority this draft (Green, Jones, Blackmon)with a pass rushing DL/LB right their at our #2 need. Other holes needing to be filled is another CB/S, get that right side of the line strengthened up, and possibly get a QB in a later round (4-5)....I am not completely sold on McCoy yet especially after his last two games.
Time will tell what Holmgren decides to do with the head coach......I would really like to see the same coaching staff with a different OC (Josh McDaniels) and a new WR coach that can actually coach these young WR's to play at an NFL level, the coach they got now coached at Minnesota Gophers and obviously didn't have any NFL worthy WR's coming out of there. I think firing Mangini and getting a new coaching staff sets us back yet another 2-3 years and will not get us in the right direction.....when you start winning games and making the playoffs that means their is stability within the organization, 2 years is not long enough to possibly build a team especially how bad the one Mangini was dealt, it is obviously getting better and we have gotten some very good players in FA and the draft the past few years. A new coach is not what we need just so he can clean house, get "his" guys in here and put us "back" in rebuilding mode which we have been rebuilding ever since the Browns came back in 1999. I really hope Holmgren does the right thing and IF he does want to fire Mangini I hope he has a coach lined up before he actually makes the move (Fox, Fisher, Gruden etc) and not just fire Mangini and hope to get one of those guys and then end up hiring a low profile coach with hardly any experience. It's not like coaches are drooling over coaching the Browns.....a team that has to play in maybe the toughest divisions in the NFL, and a team with not much talent. -
Mr Miyagias stated on another thread , Peter King of Sports Illustrated that Holmgren will hire Marty Mornhinweg will be hired as head coach........ thats right the same Marty that after winning the coin toss in overtime chose to kick.......... i dont like that idea one bit

its hard but we have to trust holmgren... -
OQB^^ I don't like that either! What has he done as a head coach.....he went 5-27 as the head coach of the Detroit Lions in 2 years.
The more I think about it the more I like Mangini as the head coach. -
Mr MiyagiI would like to think that Peter King is wrong.......... I hope so.......or we might be looking for a head coach again in 2 years........ but you are right, have to trust Holmgren/Heckert

I seriously hope this is a joke. The fanbase will immediately turn against holmgren if this happens. Lerner should step in and tell both of them to GTFO if holmgren even tries to do that. -
OQBThe thing is Lerner knows absolutely nothing about football......he is just the guy to sign the check. That is why he hired Holmgren....to get us back to the glory days.
We will be going into our 13th year of rebuilding.....with all those top 5 picks we should be more like the Pats/Steelers/Colts instead we don't do enough scouting and aren't smart enough to find out what guys will work the best in our system, then when we do get a guy he under achieves and moves on to bigger and better things outside of Cleveland. -
THE4RINGZDifficult to have a system when it changes every three years.

OQBTHE4RINGZ;622663 wrote:Difficult to have a system when it changes every three years.
That is exactly my point....and why I want Mangini to stay! Stability builds a winning organization. -
Mr Miyagiorr qb....though we usually do not agree , we agree again!....... I dont really want to get rid of Mangini but I think it is because I am so tired of starting over, clock management of his though just kills me ........ might not be talking to much about giving him another year if Holmgren was not making the decision
just a question.........if Holmgren decides to fire Mangini and wants to take on the job as Browns HC, does he have to interview a minority candidate before he hires himself ? -
OQBI really don't get why coaches get these 3-5 year contracts.......why give them that long contract if your just going to fire them 2 years into it.
-
OQBMiyagi, what are we on? haha You make very good points, and not wanting to start over is about 50% of why I want to keep him. I just think we do not have the team to have a winning record, but we have gotten better under Mangini. You can't blame EVERYTHING on him....it is ultimately the players playing the game, and we don't exectly have a team full of pro bowlers or HOFers.
Yes he would have to interview a minority coach.....I read that the Vikings have to go through the appropriate interview process even though they want to hire Frazier as the HC, so going by that Holmgren would have to go the the appropriate process as well. -
Mr MiyagiI can hear one of the interview questions now......."Why should I hire you instead of myself ?"
-
OQB
HAHA....that is pretty funny!Mr Miyagi;622683 wrote:I can hear one of the interview questions now......."Why should I hire you instead of myself ?" -
OQBOk if anyone wants to really get frustrated and mad, or you are just curious as to how bad our drafts have been.....go to google/yahoo and type in the draft year (2004) and then type NFL Draft...then bring up the wikipedia site...
I was curious one day as to who of the top players in the league today the Browns could've drafted instead of the guys who are no longer on the Browns roster in which they did draft.....you would be amazed at the number of playmakers/pro bowlers/ super bowl winning players the Browns could've gotten if they actually knew how to draft players. -
Mr Miyagimost of our draft picks are not in the NFL anymore
