Cleveland Browns 2011 Super Awesome In-Season Thread
-
MulvaI would love for the Browns to get DeAndre Brown if he falls into the 3rd-4th round. He had a lot of injury problems this year, but when healthy he's a beast. Great size and good speed. He's projected as a mid-rounder right now, but I think his stock will rise once his measurables are tested and he works out for teams, so I'm not sure he'll last that long.
There are enough needs on both sides of the ball that I really don't care who they go after with the first pick. -

sorry but there is no way Green makes it past 10, probably not even that far. -
OQBWow, what was I thinking....
Thank you for that wealth of knowledge and inside information! Let's just wait til the draft, people fall in the draft, I'm not saying green will definitely be in the 2nd round, but Anything and I mean Anything is possible. I would agree with you though, he would ve a steal if he makes it past the top 15-20. -

Yeah I mean I wasn't trying to be a jerk or anything. I haven't seen any mocks that have him lasting past the top 5 though. You are right anything is possible. I just dont think that is lol -

Ray Ventrone also received quite a bit of playing time. He's a converted WR who was also on our PS a year ago.
Abe Elam, aka "Look behind you, Abe", is such a liability in coverage it's not even funny, and Sheldon Brown is one of the most overrated corners in the AFC. The Eagles had no problems letting him go.
I like what Joe Haden brought to the table, and I'm very curious is Eric Wright can get back on track next season. He's a good corner. I think he was intimidated by Haden, however, and he really struggled early on. Not to mention he battled some nagging injuries.
I think Ryan has done a fair job. Not excellent, or great, but fair. He made some plays despite having a slow defense who is somewhat inexperienced. Ahtyba Rubin has been a nice surprise, and Kenyon Coleman can still get it done, but we have no depth at DL, or LB. For what Ryan has had to work with, I think he's done a fair job.
I'd say that another thing making Ryan's defensive numbers skew towards the bad side is simply the caliber of play on the other side of the ball, both with Cleveland and Oakland. Defenses break down when they basically have to carry the game because guys like Delhomme, Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn are incapable of sustaining drives (and it's not like he had much better helping out in Oakland).
After scoring 24 in their win over Carolina, Cleveland averaged 11 points a game in finishing 1-4. Time of possession went like this:
Miami (W) 29:24 to 30:36
Buffalo (L) 23:50 to 36:10
Cincinnati (L) 21:57 to 38:03
Baltimore (L) 28:14 to 31:46
Pittsburgh (L) 26:46 to 33:14
In all five cases, they lost in the time of possession and in the Buffalo and Cincy games, it was a huge difference. A better offensive game that keeps the defense off the field for more of the game would probably be a big help. -
Laley23I think if Green slips past Cleveland but still goes top 10, it might have the trickle down effect and then Blackmon falls, and Jones falls. Then maybe Jones does go to the second round. Something like that I think is more likely than Green going to the late first round.

Excellent post.
That's also the exact same thing that happened in 2007 when Derek Anderson had his "Pro Bowl" year. DA struggled the last 7-8 games, getting numerous 3 and outs (I remember specifically in the 2nd half of the 2nd Pitt game. Our defense was so tired we could tackle Big Ben and let him run for a 30 yard score).
Our offense needs to control the clock and keep the defense off the field. Especially when we play teams like New Orleans, New England, Pitt, etc. We don't want guys like Brady, Brees, and Big Ben getting numerous opportunities to score, especially on a defense that's tired and already lacks overall talent. -
DaBrowns41Personally, I don't see Julio Jones or Blackmon falling out of the first round, let alone to us in the 2nd. Jones should be selected in the teens, as well as Blackmon. But they slip to no later than pick 25, IMO.
Especially with some of these top notch guys going back to school like Luck, Janoris Jenkins, Dont'a Hightower, etc. -
OQBBREAKING NEWS:
BROWNS WIDE RECEIVER COACH GEORGE MCDONALD IS LEAVING TO COACH WR'S AT THE U IN MIAMI.....
The Browns might be able to get a coach that actually knows how to coach WR's and develop Mo Mas and Robiskie! -
OQBMatt Hasselbeck is a free agent this offseason....what are the odds (if no lockout) he is in a Browns uni this coming season coaching up McCoy in the west coast offense?
-
Red SaulA decision on the head coach could be made as early as Thursday and it looks like it will be Pat Shurmur.
There is also a rumor that they are also looking at Defensive Coordinator's who could replace Ryan. -

God I hope not. Let McCoy play. -
OneBuckeyeAccording to the PD the Stache is in the running for D cooridinator.
-
OneBuckeyeI thought these were good articles of an evaluation of the brown's roster.

OhioStatePride2003Not likely to happen, but it'd be something to see if the Eagles decided to finally nix Andy Reid. He's a Holmgren guy. I'm not sure I like Furmur as our Head Coach. Of all the OC's and DC's out there, I'm not too keen on this one.

Murdski99Blackmon is returning for his senior season...do these players know something we don't about the lockout? Seems like a lot of them are passing up a lot of cash

Blackmon is only a RS sophomore, and only has one year of production.
I can understand why he wanted to come back. -
royal_kMichael Floyd is also returning to ND for his senior season. Suddenly the Wr prespects are getting thinner.
-
shook_17damn it. i really liked blackmon. thats too bad. well looks like its green or jones!
-
Laley23Ok, now the Browns need to snag a FA WR (V-Jax or Rice)
-
dazedconfusedyea, i'd prefer to get vjax and then have the ability to draft defense or right side of the line help
-
OQBWe have a better shot at getting Vincent Jackson due to the free agents that the Chargers do have....he is not to high on their priority list. Rice will be back with the Vikings.
Also what does everyone think about Plaxico Burress, who will be able to join a team in the late summer? I wouldn't mind getting him in here either. -
september63Id take Vincent Jackson but would 100% pass on Plaxico Burress.

dazed youre right. vincent jackson in free agency would be great! then we could go right side or get us that pass rusher we need or even another top notch cornerback! we can dream cant we.
it looks like pat shurmur is going to be hired. i seen on NFL.com they are trying to hammer out a contract and hopefully going to announce friday that he is our new head coach.. do you think free agents will stay away because pat isn't the "big splash" we wanted? -
OQBLet's just put it this way...if cleveland offers a player a contract, and another team offers a very similar contract....they will go to the other team. Cleveland has to spend money if they want to win games.
