We need a line-backer, a DE, another corner, a RB to compliment Hillis, a whole right side to the line....

    Don't forget about Hardesty.

I'm a rob ryan fan/supporter, but honestly I dont see where the great defensive coord comes from. He was terrible in cleveland, and terrible as the DC in oakland. Go back and look, he's never had a def even ranked in the top 10 that I saw.

Oh yeah right, can't wait to watch him blow out his knee in pre season again. That was a dumb pick and hated it then, and I still hate it now. Dude's not even a Lee Suggs.

That is kind of my thinking...he is a vertical guy that flourished indoors. Like I said...it is just a gut feeling...nothing more.

I agree....I was really surprised Mangini didn't want to get Toby Gerhart from Stanford.....that would've been a nice player to counter Hillis, and still have the same type of back in the game.

    Commander,
About Rob Ryan.....you are right , but he does come up with some pretty unique gameplans that work well, just think what he could do if he had more than 1-2 players that are legit. Right now we have 2 guys on the defense that are going to have good careers and they were rookies this year. But you are definately right, he didn't have a defense in the top 10...

Ryan has had some great games (Saints, Pats) but it isn't every week. Some weeks they looked totally unprepared.

It's hard to look prepared when you have practice squad guys playing on defense. Brian Schaefering is a season removed from not even being on the active roster. Ray Ventrone also received quite a bit of playing time. He's a converted WR who was also on our PS a year ago.

Abe Elam, aka "Look behind you, Abe", is such a liability in coverage it's not even funny, and Sheldon Brown is one of the most overrated corners in the AFC. The Eagles had no problems letting him go.

I like what Joe Haden brought to the table, and I'm very curious is Eric Wright can get back on track next season. He's a good corner. I think he was intimidated by Haden, however, and he really struggled early on. Not to mention he battled some nagging injuries.

I think Ryan has done a fair job. Not excellent, or great, but fair. He made some plays despite having a slow defense who is somewhat inexperienced. Ahtyba Rubin has been a nice surprise, and Kenyon Coleman can still get it done, but we have no depth at DL, or LB. For what Ryan has had to work with, I think he's done a fair job.

I am doing this at my laptop right meow in agreement with this post...

Have to agree with DaBrown's assessment of our defense. They lack speed big time, and played with guys that had no business being on the field for part of the season. Not to mention, the lack of a legit pass rush.

Chirs Mortenson reported that Shurmur, Rams OC, has supposedly become the front-runner for the Cleveland Coaching Vacany. In Holmgren I trust.

Well considering we've only interviewed 2 people I'm not ready to write the hiring in stone yet. I wouldn't mind taking a longer look at mularkey. In Heckert I trust, not sure I trust Holmgren after the FAILhomme signing, I hope we don't offer Hasselbeck a contract following the playoffs because holmgren gets a stiffy for him after his playoff game against the Saints.

Holmgren did hire Heckert at least. So you have to trust him a least a bit.

I agree with this post 100%......The defense put us in position to win every single game but the last one. I just think he could really do some things if we actually had more than 1 guy with talent on our defense. Haden will be a very very solid CB with the Browns., and I wouldn't mind them going for another CB in the draft (Peterson, Jenkins, Amaiakaruma or however you spell his name lol) You can never have too many corners, especially in a league that is getting pass happy.

No one expected Hillis to do what he did this year, so if you draft Gerhart you are essentially drafting the same guy...thats not a compliment back its a log jam.

Hillis fumbles too much to be a feature back.

adrian peterson a year ago fumbled just as much if not more. you know how many times ap fumbled this year? 1 once. thats it. it can be corrected in the off-season. i wouldn't be to worried.

I fully expect the Browns to sign Asomugha when free agency opens!! :D

I was thinking the same thing! Man sure could use his skills on the other side of Haden.

But let's come back down to reality and realize it probably won't happen lol.

santino holmes is a FA this year. would you guys be interested than draft aj green or go defense with first pick?
  • DaBrowns41
I think they'll do what they can to re-sign Holmes and let Braylon go in FA.
  • OQB
    Haha, so is Braylon Edwards....

I wouldn't mind bringing the former Buckeye (Holmes) back to Ohio...for the right price. I wouldn't pay him a big time receiver's contract, but he would definately improve the WR corp.

I think the Browns will go Defense first round and try to get a WR that slips into the second round, and if they have to trade up to get him they will. Their is a possibility that Green,Jones, and Blackmon fall to the lat first round/2nd round....they could pick on of those guys up then, and not waste a #6 pick on a WR.

I also wouldn't mind the Browns trying to get Vince Young...I am not sold on McCoy yet. VY I think just needs a new situation and a new coach.
  • hoops23
I have also changed my tune about the Browns 1st round. I actually want defense in rounds 1 and 2.

Wouldn't mind seeing Casey Matthews or Von Miller in a Browns uni either.
