I think it would take more than that.

And if they DO decide to do that, they had better be aggressive as Hell in FA.

You can take rg3, but if you can get luck, and he pans out, you are looking at a dominate qb for at least a decade.

I don't think you can pass that up.
I'd like Luck, I think he will be a great QB. I don't want to give up multiple top picks to get him, especially when there are so much more needs.

I think because the Browns are giving up the 3rd maybe 4th pick, the price is already high enough for only dropping back a 2-3 spots. 3 Firsts and a 2nd to move up 2-3 spots is hefty enough.

why not? with that selection, you are set at qb for years. if he pans out like people think, you've got a future hal of famer and top qb of all time. I think sacrificing a few top picks now to get that is worth it. especially with how much we are going to dip into FA

Completely agree! I would be thrilled with Luck in a Cleveland Uniform.....and I think this is a do or die year to actually get a franchise QB here and keep the fans happy. With that said we would have to give up a lot of picks, but we have an owner who is not affraid to spend money so Heckert HAS to be extremely aggressive in the Free Agency to get quality football player to fill defensive needs, and get playmakers for Luck.

I say pull the trigger and go get Luck!

Yeah and if he doesn't you set the franchise back another 5 years. I'd rather spread out the risk by having multiple potential good players, rather than putting all of our eggs in one basket with one.

We've been told FA is something the Browns are going to be active in, but we rarely see them go out and grab any top tier talent(if ever).

Andrew Luck is one of those players that has little risk/bust.....Cleveland is in this state of losing because they have lacked the ability to draft well and get the right roster together. Heckert has done a great job in drafting and taking a "youth movement" approach....but sooner or later you have to take that franchise QB and get this shitty team off the ground. Luck is the guy that can do that! Oh, and if they do get Luck trust me they will WANT and NEED to be very aggressive in FA to get weapons around him so this team can be .500 or better next season.

As was mentioned (but I'll put it in my own words), there's a difference in being aggressive in free agency for an Andrew Luck (franchise/top tier QB) and being aggressive for a Colt McCoy (coin flip on whether he can be your franchise QB). They would WANT to put as many elite weapons around Luck after the major expenditure (multiple draft picks) to get him.

heckert has publicly stated that he is goign to be a big free agent spender this year. He has not said that in any other year, so i don't know what that's about.

and every pick has a potential for bust, so that argument is not a good one either. If you hae a qb like luck, with the abiliity to get him, you take it. especially where we are at with our quarterbacks

He's said they need to be "more aggressive in free agency." Didn't say anything about being a "big spender." He could go out and get a bunch of depth to rotate with guys like Rubin & Taylor on the D-Line for all we know. I hope he snags a #1 WR though.

corner, #1 reciever, OL depth..draft andrew luck..playoff bound

Wouldn't be the first time a GM has thrown out a smokescreen (need to be aggressive in FA comment) but I think they HAVE to realize that if they are going to start winning some games in this division they have to bring in playmakers whether by draft, FA or trade.
  • iclfan2
Schefter said the price for Luck could be as high as 3 1's and 2 2's. That would be ridiculous.
  • OQB
THey also have to keep the fans interested in the team.....another year like this under this regime and that does not look good for this franchise. If we were to go 4-12 next year, we would be set back another 5-8 years and that is something we DON'T need.

You have the best pieces to get Luck, you go get him.
You have an owner who doesn't bat an eye at spending money, you go out and the get the best FA's no matter what the asking price and in some cases you pay them more just to get them here in Cleveland.

This team has to be winners next season and be .500 or better.

Did Lerner come out an say he will move the Browns if they don't have a winning season next year? Geezus, a lot of you guys are making out next season to be do or die.

How do you figure this? You're sounding a lot like chicken little.

Getting luck would be nice, but that also means that the Colts are selling. I doubt they will be tbh, and I'm sick of reading this speculation that its 3 first round picks. As of right now with games still being played that is just that, speculation. The Colts GM isn't calling the Browns and demanding 3 firsts just yet so that talk really is pointless until after Free Agency.

lol you state luck will be a great qb but you don't want to give up multiple picks for a "great qb". so you'd rather draft some players one or two might turn out to be pro bowlers. and hope to find a diamond in the rough qb. doesn't make sense. if they believe luck is the next peyton manning, you throw everything you can at them.

Sorry guys. I'm not buying the whole "aggressive FA" stuff.

I may be in the minority, but if Luck is a 10/10 QB and RG3 is an 8.5/10 + 3 top 40 draft picks. I'll take the latter every time.

It's not just me because I'm the resident Colt "basher" but I know a ton of fans who can't stomach the thought of him under center next year.

It is, fans are tired of the same old shitty play and losing. Have you seen any progress this year, they only have 4 wins?

First off, I say 5-8 years because that would be 3 years of this regime not winning a damn thing, and everyone would want change.
Second point, If the colts beat the jags which is likely, and the rams lose to san fran which is also likely....the rams would have the #1 pick....so they would be shopping luck around because they like bradford....per Adam Schefter.

Still ridiculous to make next season out to be do or die, as if the franchise is going anywhere. Anyway, here is the list of FAs for this off season. A lot of WRs I wouldn't mind. http://www.footballsfuture.com/freeagents.html

    Definitely.

Look I want to grab a QB in the first round, but I don't want to give up all these top tier picks to do it. RG3 is a top tier QB IMO. Not as great as Luck's potential, sure, but still a top tier QB.

I respect that, and I do agree the Browns will still be in Cleveland for years to come....but from a fans standpoint, we are ALL tired of the same old story and result that we have had the past 11 years. We're rebuilding, it's a process, and we are battling. Enough is enough.

Nor do I. It's either Luck or RG3 for me. I don't want a Weeden or Landry Jones/Nick Foles type project.

The perfect storm would be to keep all of the picks and have the QB fall to you. They currently have 8 picks. When awarded compensatory picks, which I'm pretty sure they should get some this year, it could be as high as 10-12.

Better grow some more patience than that, because this team is not going to be a playoff team next year.
