Punch Champion is one of my favorites, and has been for years.

Pick6, other solid places would be Medina Cigar & Tobacco and Montrose Wine & Cigar. The former is just off the town square in Medina, and the latter is on the Rt. 18 strip in Fairlawn, just behind Five Guys.

Both have very good selections, and Medina Cigar has two very good lounges, one in the basement, and one just behind the humidor. Montrose really doesn't have a lounge, but their selection is excellent, and the accommodations are still very professional. I know the owners of both (both women, interestingly enough). Good people who know their stuff.

The AF Opus X is an obvious choice. Anyone who smokes cigars should try one at least once in their lives.

Ashton is a solid brand. If they have it, I recommend the Cabinet.

CAO is a solid brand, but I'd avoid their global series (Americana, Brasilia, Italiana). I'd stick to the 'X2s' (CX2, LX2, and MX2).

Cohiba is a very solid brand. I recommend just about anything from them. Never had a bad experience with anything, though if you've got a light stomach or haven't eaten much, I'd steer clear of their maduros. They'll kick you in the teeth.

I think Diamond Crown is a very underrated cigar brand. Doesn't get the accolades that the older companies with Latin-sounding names do, but if you can find the Diamond Crown Maximus, I think it's important you try it.

H Upman is one I hadn't tried until recently, but it's a solid brand. I've only had two, but both were good quality cigars.

I've heard good things like Hoyo de Monterrey, but I've never gotten around to trying them.

Macanudo is a quality brand, but the Jade (light green wrapper) is uninteresting. However, if you see a Macanudo 1968 (I see it on there) or the Vintage Maduro 1997, get them. If the 1968 comes in a "Gigante" size, I recommend that one.

Monte Cristo is a high-quality brand ... I'd put it in the same camp as Cohiba.

Oliva is a decent brand, but I'd stick to Series M and Series O. If you're feeling bold, go with the Series V, as it's a very unique cigar ... the smoke has a green tint to it, but the level of nicotine is pretty high, so if you're not ready for it, you'll have a green tint as well. A friend of mine threw up when I gave him one.

Punch is a solid brand. If you can find the Punch Champion, I specifically recommend that one.

There are others on there that are okay, but those are the ones I'd recommend.

I am smoking an AF opus x right now, very very good, expensive but very good. The Pipe rack also had Punch champion which I got. I will get the others off the list and try them out. I use chewing tobacco Copenhagen and Grizzly plus Mail pouch when I see it so I think I can take the Series V of the Oliva but I guess we will see LOL.

    No love for Acid??? Kiddin'

The 1968 is wonderful. Won box of them a while back.

The Champion was an early 'go to' cigar for me, but I haven't had it in a while.

Oliva Melanio is nice. Won a box of those a while back too and I'm out if them now.

The CAO Concert is a decent one. Little on the light end, but very smokable one after the other.

One to look out for is Leccia. The White and the Black. The Black is Kentucky Fire Cured. It has a nice camp fire flavor when dry fired. I've only bought 3 boxes of cigars this past year. 2 of the White's and one of the Black, so that tells you what I think if them.

Tonight it's a Fuente Reserva Extra Viejo. Very nice smoke. Glad I have a few of these from last year in my humidor.

Never had one. What do they run?

I bought this one last week. It was the Torpedo # 55. Can't remember exactly how much it was as I bought 3 different sticks and it came out to $30.00. I believe this one was in the $11.00-$13.00 range.

    Fair enough.

As a general rule, with the Opus X being the natural exception, I avoid Fuente anymore, as a lot of them just seem overpriced for the quality. In essence, I probably see them as the "InBev of cigars," though to a lesser degree, as there is still some good quality stuff.

Totally get that with Fuente. This one only comes out once a year and depending where you get it can be pricey. I enjoyed it, of course I've never had a 'crap' one yet from Fuente.

My Father Le Bijou tonight. i really love this cigar.

It's customer appreciation night at Jungle Jim's and its freaking packed. 5 different cigar reps and 6 cigars for $20.00. I haven't bought mine yet as the line is too long...might have to bypass that deal tonight.

Had two cigars in the last three nights. A Gurkha Elegance on Tuesday night. A Diamond Crown Maximus tonight.

Damn, I forgot how good the Maximus smelled. Top-five in smell. Damn.

A old boss signed me up for a cigar of the month club. Got my first5 sticks last night. I got a Man O' War Double Corona,La Aurora 1495 Robusto,Don Lino African Tembo,Padilla Miami Churchill. and a Man O' War Virtue. I started with the Virtue. A solid smoke and paired well with the Stone Enjoy I was drinking.

A great night but today was not very productive. I can't wait to get my lips on that Churchill.

I've had the Padilla Miami and the Virtue. Loved them both.

Hell, I ended up buying a damn box of the Virtues.

Jungle Jim's is finally going to stock Gurkhas. They've had them in their other store about 40 minutes away from me. In fact Jan 9th they are having their Gurkha Kick off tasting. I believe they didn't stock them before due to not having room. Makes me wonder what they 'got rid of' in order to stock it.

...las night got a couple of gifts from my daughter and son in law on my birthday. They gave me a travel humidor and 5 cigars to go with it.

2 AKA Solaace 2 Ashton Cabinet and an Oliva G along with a new butane lighter.
  • Curly J
Looks and sounds like you both scored. My 2 lighters are in sad shape. I'll be buying a cheaper lighter tomorrow at the tasting. Both were free with the purchase of cigars. One lasted about 4 years. Not bad for it being free with a 3 pack of Cohiba's.
