The mission was to get through 6 of the dbls. I failed miserably at 4.
I can't tell if I won or lost.
I am going to attempt to age the Lukcy ( if I can control myself ) -

I'm assuming it is The RP. Love those myself.
Getting ready ready to set up my sticks for my cigar tasting Thursday evening. Final touches to be made in the AM. Plus I'll buy 3 more cigars there...maybe. -

Forgot that RP had one of those too. This is the Gurkha Vintage 1999.Curly J;1362426 wrote:I'm assuming it is The RP. Love those myself.

Wive is on vacation, so I'm doing a guys' night on Friday night at the Medina Cigar lounge. Will be bringing a tasty beverage as well. -

Sounds great. I have to drive around 40 minutes to get a Gurkha. Same owner of the place/stores, but different cigars in the humidors. -

I feel like I should answer this better.sportchampps;1358203 wrote:Any ideas for the cigar bar OTrap
For the experienced smokers, don't go with any new brand, no matter how good the sticks are. There are too many cigar smokers that turn their noses up at anything that doesn't belong to a very small group. If we're talking a nice, strong smoke that would knock a beginner on his arse, I'd go with a maduro ... for price purposes, maybe a Rocky Patel Edge Maduro. If it's just a few guys, like your wedding party, something like a Cohiba Black might be more in range. Edges will run you about $6-10 a stick (going from memory). The Cohiba will run you $20+ per stick.
For a beginner cigar with some decent flavor without packing too much of a punch, two come immediately to mind. One is from a newer brand, but the cigars are quality: The Man O' War Virtue. The other is a "good ol' boys" brand, but it's a phenomenal stick: The Perdomo 10th Anniversary Champagne. Both are lighter on the lungs but still have some distinct flavor for the palate to enjoy. Those should run you in the same price range as the Edges I mentioned above. -
Curly JHaving Rocky P Freedom right now. I'm really liking it.
Bought one tonight I've never seen. Recluse Iconic OTG. Might be having hat one next. -

So far so good. Little nutty on the front end. Turns peppery. Still got the last third to go. Kind of a loose draw. Might be because of the style.
It's a brand new cigar from what I understand. This one was a Cuban press which I'm still getting use to smoking. -

How's the tobacco smell? I was explaining to someone the other day how you can tell more about WHERE the tobacco was grown by the smell than what kind of see it is. It might be Cuban tobacco, but if it's grown in the States, the different levels of nitrates, various nutrients in the soil, and climate drastically affect the smell of the tobacco.Curly J;1363280 wrote:So far so good. I've always found that tobacco that is grown in the States (at least some parts) seems to have the smell of a cow pasture. Don't know why, but it's pretty distinct.
If you like peppery, and you ever do take a trip to find the Gurkhas, get the Assassin or the Evil. Probably the most peppery, spicy cigars they have, but delicious, nonetheless. -
Curly JSmelled 'stinky'...lol. I enjoyed it and will buy another when I get back to the store. I didn't ask the host much about it as I arrived late and it was pretty loud. I'll ask more about it when I see him next. Tonight it was part of a 2 pack for $15.00. The other was a Macanudo Gold Label. Light colored wrapper so I held off smoking it tonight. I was in the mood for something dark/heavy.
I've had the Evil. Loved it. Currently my last Gurkha is Spec Ops. I'll look for the Assassin when I venture to the other place.
Feel free to give me suggestions and I can always ask if they have them. -

If you like heavy, spicy, and dark, it wouldn't hurt to ask about the Man O' War Ruination. It is appropriately named.Curly J;1363356 wrote:Smelled 'stinky'...lol. Also, a surprisingly good mule-kick cigar is the Rocky Patel Fusion MM (Double Maduro). Name is cheesy, but the smoke is damn good. -

Tank U, Tank U. I've heard of the Man O' War, aka The James 'Jim' Parks. I don't think the carry it where I go. Might have to look on line for it.
The Rocky. Well they have quite a large selection. I'll check into that. -
O-TrapMan O' War is the brand. Their Virtue is mild, but the Ruination is a solid stick for a veteran.
-
Curly JHaving a Gurkha Spec Ops. Not too bad. It got a little dry so the wrapper is doing some funky stuff.

Checked where I buy my cigars and they don't have them. Looks like I might have to go online for those. -

That sounds tasty, though it does suck when it dries out. Is it splitting?
Yeah, I'm told they're hard to find in stores.Curly J;1368493 wrote:Checked where I buy my cigars and they don't have them. Looks like I might have to go online for those. -
Curly JI thought it was going, but it corrected itself. Just occurred early on during the first third. Going great now.
-
Curly JFinishing up my MF Le Bijou. Freaking loving it. Short stick with a long burn. I'm druuuuuling with every draw. Will buy again.
-
Curly JI ended up buying 4 more Le Bigou's after the tasting. 3 shorts and a longer one. Love that Cigar. Also grabbed a CAO MX2 and a LX2. And a MF My Father. Just over $70.00 in sticks.
The sale of tonight was the RP 1990 and the Decade. Had them both before, but the My Father blew my mind so I had to buy more. -
Curly JStarting tonight with a CAO MX2. Feels pretty weak for some reason. Padilla are the special at tonight's tasting.

Padilla 1968? Those are delicious.
Myself, I'm having a Perdomo Grand Reserve Champagne tonight.
