Cigar Aficionado Discussion Thread ...

  • O-Trap
Since I have given up carbohydrates for the next three months (minus the trace amounts that may be in things I don't realize), I am unable to actively take part in the beer thread. As such, I figured that since I can still have cigars, I would want to start this discussion up. There was a thread at one time, but they all seem to be locked now as part of the archive here.

I just bought a bundle of 25 Gurkha Vintage 1999 from CI and it arrived today. About to bust one out and enjoy it in my office.

Anyone else enjoying a little legal leaf this evening?

(EDIT: By the way, the deal they have on these is fantastic. $50 for a bundle of 25 cigars that normally goes for $300)

Not tonight but every Thursday I have a stick or three. I'll be checking in weekly.

I enjoyed a nice Cohiba Black tonight.

OTrap I'm planning a Cigar Bar at my wedding this year. I want a box of something strong for the more experienced and something mild for the beginners. I'm also thinking some mini cigars for the ladies who might want to join us. Any recommendations on what to buy or where. I want so spend around 50-80 a box. I'll probably end up buying three boxes and a few singles. My experience is mostly buying some nice singles from local shops but I've heard when buying boxes online is the way to go. I also want something that will only take around 30-45 mins to smoke so our guests arnt outside for the whole reception.

When it gets warmer...My favorite is by far Partigas 1845.

I need to invest in a humidor. I have a half dozen in tubes that are a few years old (shame on me). I alternate between wanting to smoke them, and being afraid they are no good.

What do you guys do to avoid a week long funk in the whole house (or at least the room you smoke)? Jacuzzi tub doesn't sound like a bad option to me, but I don't want my bedroom to stink for 2 weeks. I have a guest room/office but I'm afraid of lasting stench in the furniture.

I should add my Thursdays are at a cigar smoking event. I usually have a couple and buy at least 3 more sticks. Fun time, sticks and Bourbon. (Woodford Reserve)

As long as the tubos are appropriately sealed, I'm betting you're okay.

I run an outgoing fan in the one room I smoke in. There is a lingering smell the next day, but within 48-72 hours, it's gone.

    Sounds like a good time!

I'm sent outside but we do have a nice heater like the bars have that I picked up at Sams Club to keep me warm.

Good call...I have enough room on my deck or a small one of those

I think we paid $150 at Sams Club on Black Friday a couple years ago. My girlfriends dad got one the same night though used it once that winter and then went to turn it on the next winter and it never worked again. I'm not sure if I was lucky to get one that worked or if he was unlucky to get one that didn't.

Nice. I have a couple of those myself. Opus X that is. No Double Bastard on hand, only Vertical Epics.

Dude, you and I are Akronites. What are you doing this Friday? I can introduce you to the wonderful Brotherhood of the Leaf.

Opus X is always solid, but quite frankly, I've gotten tired of most of the other Fuente sticks, as I see them get WAY over-pushed.
  • sportchampps
Yeah what cigars would you recommend in the $60-$80 per box price range. I usually only buy singles in local stores.

Good luck finding that price in stores. If you need something under $100, I'd recommend the Perdomo Fresco. Only stick I can think of that is REGULARLY under $3.00 that is of any decent quality. Perdomo is one of my two favorite brands.

However, CI always has clearance deals. Here's a solid starter cigar from there for $50.

Love the Perdomo's, but I have to go to Kentucky to get them.
  • sportchampps
Yeah I fully expect to have to go online to get boxes at a decent price. Any sites you recommend

Bought a couple tonight when I was at the store. Rocky Freedom, Camacho Room101, and a My Father Le something. Can't read it due to my old eyes. It's short and dark and I want to smoke it right now.

CI, brother. Just got me a bundle of 25 Gurkha Vintage 1999s for $50. Normally $12 per stick.

Seriously, that link I just gave you is to one of many deals on Cigars International. Here's a link to their whole Clearance page. It's got their deals.

My Father Le Bijou? Hard to find up here. I smoked one in Colorado. Good stick.

Rocky P's Freedom is the shiznit.

Bingo!!! Has 1922 on it which I could read. Dark, short, and I'm sure full of flavor. I do have another My Father that set me back $18.00.

    Looking forward to the Freedom!
