Ohio State 2011 Off-Season Discussion

Chekwa had a dislocation, and was having surgery the day after the game. Haven't heard what they actually had to fix during surgery.

On the TP front, I once strained a ligament in the bottom of my foot, and it is terribly painful.

If Vaughters does decommit, you would think we will get either him or Grant right? With the other heading for Florida.

Glad to hear Pryor acknowledge that he has some growing up to do. Who knows, maybe the light bulb will turn on for this kid. A lot of people bash him but lets see, maybe he is going to learn something from all of this.

Anyone we are waiting to commit doing so in today's army AA game?
  • Quint
Nope, but there are several guys playing in the game that may announce later for us. . .

    Hopefuls:
    Curtis Grant
    Aundrey Walker
    Damian Swann

    Committed:
    Brian Bobek
    Michael Bennett

Pryor's surgery basically assures that he will be returning. I think Posey returns as well. Adams and Herron will probably think long and hard about bailing though.
  • ytownfootball
Adams is the only one who has publicly stated that he might actually consider not returning, this just following the Sugar Bowl. Herron seemed pretty committed though only time will tell obviously.

There are a lot of talented backs on the team. Hall and Berry could very easily play well and ensure that they will continue to get touches once he returns. IMO he really can't improve his stock by returning, and if Hall/Berry play well, he could actually hurt his stock

    6-2 VS 5-11 = 3 inches

I'll be honest, I don't really think of Boom as a guy with stock. I like the kid, he's from my area and I watched him in high school, but he doesn't impress me as a guy with a lot of hope for significant time in the NFL. I could be wrong, hope I am but I think he returns for some reason.

I would assume there will be a QB competion and the best QB will be given the job. If there is ONE THING Jim Tressel will NEVER do is just GIVE a player a starting position, especially to a green Freshman.

Herron will be signed as free agent if comes back or not.

Ytown, I didn't hear this--do you happen to have a link to where he said this?

thanks....I wish I could say that this surprises me, but I've got a feeling he's not the only one

Me neither. But he could damage what little stock he has by returning and losing his reps and PT to Hall, Berry, Hyde, and Roderick Smith

If Tressel stays the way he has been, Boom won't lose much of his reps imo. Especially when the guy ran for over 1,000 yards, 16 TD's and a 5.3 YPC.

One of these young RB's is going to have to transfer or move into another positions (Hyde to FB is an option). Also, I'd like to see OSU use Berry or Hall in the slot due to the lack of experienced WR's we will have early on next season. Get those playmakers in space with the ball imo.

Give Hall Herron's touches last season and I'm sure there isn't much of a drop off. Herron is a good college RB, but he only has average speed for a RB and he isn't especially big. Ohio State has plenty of guys more than capable of filling in/taking his job.

Do you think Tressel's mancrush will continue even if somebody has a fast start to the season? I mean, Herron isn't able to play bc he broke NCAA rules. Not because he was injured

Mancrush? The kid ran hard especially when OSU needed him the most. He produced when many thought he would be passed by Saine (myself included). He will get the same type of carries he got this season when he comes back from suspension.

Not saying the other guys aren't better (I think they probably are) but from a productivity level Herron was solid for the Buckeyes. I think he'll still be the #1 guy after the suspension.

As mentioned, it's not like he wasn't productive, he was. But the bigger issue for Tressel playing Boom Herron will be to the younger players who saw a player honor his commitment and return, and reward him with reps. How shitty would Tressel look, given his MO to have Boom commit to returning and chill him on the pine when he's able to go, what's more, how would he look to other players who might be asked to make various commitments of any kind?

agreed. He was productive, but let's not pretend he was/is the only guy capable of being productive. The other guys on the team are undoubtedly more 'talented' than Boom and none of them broke any NCAA rules (or at least haven't been caught yet).

I'm sure if he returns he will probably get plugged right back into the starting lineup, but if it were me, and the other guys are playing well... I think I'd lean towards telling Boom to go get Jordan Hall some water

who cares how Tress "looks", don't be selfish and break NCAA rules and then complain when somebody takes your job. Those guys have nobody else to blame but themselves
