Ohio State 2011 Off-Season Discussion

Thunder70I'd like to see Smith have 500-600 yards rushing in the first five games.
-
OneBuckeyeI see everyone is drinking the Rod Smith kool aide. No doubt reports are good and he will be good. But Berry and Hall and put in their time and tore it up when they were in this year. I don't think they will be so jumped so quickly.
As far as WRs go, I thought James Jackson has played well in the minimal time I saw him in the spring games. Ty Williams has been blowing up practice apparently. I have never really seen Feilds do anything. It is hard to say who will get the 2nd WR spot. -
se-alumI'd like to see Berry, Hall, and Smith all over 800yds rushing next year. OSU should be able to just pound teams on the ground.

We have talent everywhere just little experience. Pryor brings those intagibles and even after 3 or 4 games off gives us the best chance to win at QB. I am all for breaking Braxton in, but there is no reason we can't win every game next year. The Miami game I think will be our most difficult without Pryor.
I think the most difficult game with or without the suspended players will be Nebraska. We travel too Lincoln for their first even home Big Ten and it's against the six-time defending Big Ten champs, so you know that their fans and the team will be very fired up. This is also the first game where the suspended players are allowed to play, so it will be interesting to see who ends up in the starting line up and who comes in and how they handle that situation. If no one has really shown anything at QB does Pryor start or come in after the first offensive series if it's three-and-out? Say Miller has been the starter and has done well, does he get the start at Nebraska and stay in the whole game if we're willing and doing well and maybe Pryor gets some snaps at receiver just to get him on the field. To me this will be an interesting game and the most difficult game because of that. Hopefully they get the suspension reduced by at least one game so that we can deal with these issues at home against MSU or someone else. I believe that we can win at Miami without these guys, and I think we could win at Nebraska. It's hard to tell where that program is headed at the moment though. Both Miami and Nebraska seem to be in disarray a bit right now. -

I hope so. Why? It'll allow Tress & Staff to concentrate on the reload rather than figure out how to come up with 2 game plans and hope the team doesn't skip a beat.
I think they only two who may bolt, are Adams and Herron. I am confident that Pryor, Posey and obviously Thomas will be back. -

Not sold on this just yet. All depends on Pryor. If he comes back, which I think he will....OSU should be able to get by using Guiton at QB. Why waste a redshirt, development on Miller if Pryor is going to come back, and obviously step in vs Nebraska in game 6. I'd rather see him redshirt, develop him, then he has 4 full years when Pryor leaves. If Pryor leaves this year, then that changes things.
I think Miller will eventually be VERY good. But to expect a true frosh to step in and be great at the position of QB is unrealistic IMO. Some are already doing that.
Next year, I am worried about the Dline. Latimore and Heyward are gone...big holes there. Dline is the foundation to a good defense. That is the major question mark on defense. -

Braxton Miller isn't the type of player that you redshirt. Even if Pryor weren't suspended Miller still wouldn't redshirt. -

IF Pryor would not be suspended, there is no way OSU would NOT redshirt him. Why waste a year for him sitting and watching? If Pryor were there, he wouldn't see the field unless there were a serious injury and if he were THAT good. Obviously the suspension throws some question into that now. Hey, if Miller is GOOD enough, so be it. I have seen him play, and am excited he is a Buckeye. But the QB position is the single most difficult adjust for a kid coming from HS to big time college. Rarely do they just step in. I'd rather see some development and have him play a solid 4yrs when he is READY.krambman;626555 wrote:Braxton Miller isn't the type of player that you redshirt. jpake1Brown isn't getting passed up really. He was on the 2 deep before a season ending injury. I hope he can get back to where he was. Id be more worried about a guy like Wood over Brown. We have good depth, nice problem to have.
-
se-alumI would be very surprised if we don't lose a QB due to transfer this offseason.
-
thedynasty1998Hopefully with the depth of talent at RB next year, the loss of Pryor for 4 games (it has to be reduced by one game right?), OSU can rely heavily on the run game and defense. I would like to see Miller get the nod and for Tressel to keep things really simple.
-
OneBuckeyeBraxton has been quoted as saying "Tressel said I won't redshirt" that was before all this crap went down. He may not be the starter for the first 5 games but he will at least get some plays.

If the kid is as good as everyone seems to think he'll only be in Columbus for three years anyone, so we might as well use him for three years instead of just two. Also, since Pryor is a senior and he's the heir apparent it'd be better for him to get some field time (even if just in mop up duty) then to ride pine all year before becoming the starter next season. -
thedynasty1998Pryor was able to come in and start from the start, and with Miller being more polished, I'm confident he can lead the Bucks to a victory in the first 4 games. I just hope Pryor is back for Michigan State, if for no other reason than to have a game before playing Nebraska.

Pryor was able to do this with a GREAT supporting cast, a very, very good defense and mainly his ability to run. Miller is NOT a runner. He is elusive, but not in the mold of Pryor in being able to run the option. He also isn't 6'5", 250lbs. He is smaller and is not very durable. Miller is a more polished passer, no question. But he isn't the speciman Pryor is as far as an athlete. -

But he's more polished. And he will have a GREAT supporting cast, a very, very good defense and can make plays throwing the ball. If it's just the first four games, he won't be asked to do more than maybe 10 attempts per game and hopefully for about 100 yards.
If he wasn't enrolling early, I wouldn't say this. But with him being able to start learning the playbook right now, I think he will be just as ready as anyone else on the roster. -
vball10set^^^ he is enrolling early? I didn't realize that--then maybe he won't be redshirted then

How often has Tressel trusted a young QB to wing it around? Also, if OSU can get by those first four games with say, Guiton...which I think they could. And if Pryor is a done deal as far as returning and Tressel putting in back at starting for the MSU/Neb game....why waste a year of development. I'd rather have him have a year to develop, have 4 full years after Pryor leaves.
I really think he will have to be THAT much better than Guiton to play. Maybe he is...but again, true frosh at QB can take a while no matter how talented. -
derek bomartaylor graham?

Which, have heard REALLY good things about him as well. He could be in the mix for the first 4/5 games. -

He is playing in a game in florida tonight. That is quick turnaround. I wasn't sure if he was going to be enrolled in spring or winter quarter. Either way he will get that extra time at OSU in. He will not be redshirting. I have heard good things about graham too. I expect the spring game to be one of the more interesting of late. -
Pick6why cant miller come in and do good? pryor came in and did it, and according to most of you, he still sucks
-
darbypitcher22It'll be interesting to see how things shake out for next year. I especially think the offensive line will be something to watch...
-
Terry_TateI'm very interested to see what the "plan" is that Tressel and Pryor talked about after the game. I'm guessing it's all off the field stuff, but it will be interesting to see what happens with Pryor and the other guys and how they'll fit in when they get back.
