Tax code

Sold a house, but took a loss on the house, but still had to pay capital gains on it.  Had to do this because...

1) It was a residential house turned "investment"

2) I calculated depreciation every year since 2012

If it was just a basic tax return for my wife and I, we would have "taken home" $3k more without the sale of the home + a 1099-C item.

To get to the point, re: MS13.

They're a gang that consists of a notable amount of illegals.

In the grand scheme of things, as far as crime in this country goes, they're a drop in the bucket.

Because they have a notable amount of illegals, though, said drop in the bucket gets magnified to "TOTAL CRISIS!!!!!!!!!!!!" by wall-loving Rs as part of their "appeal to fear!" card. To the degree that I usually have trouble reading stuff that gets posted about them overly seriously because it will get taken to the level that it reminds me of the old urban legend about how IN A TOWN NEAR YOU (maybe even your town!), there are initiate gang members driving around at dusk with no lights on, waiting for someone to flash their lights at them, so they can run them down and kill them to pass their initiation. Hell, wouldn't be surprised if someone, somewhere has tried to bring that one back to make their case.

I don't think that has anything to do with the new tax code.  You converted it to an investment, and so there's always recapture of the depreciation you deducted from prior returns.

Not really outraged, but wtf is up woman teachers getting off on little boys?  There was one floating around yesterday who would text this kid she loved him and stuff (she was also married!). Like why does this seem to happen so often, but you never really hear about men doing it.

https://nypost.com/2019/02/28/teacher-allegedly-had-sex-with-13-year-old-while-his-friend-watched/

I don't get these stories at all.  The profile of the female teachers seems to be very consistent: 25-35 years old, seemingly happily married, no children, no criminal history, attractive.  It is a tricky one.  I get all the jokes about it being a "good" crime for the kid - which one of us didn't have a teacher crush somewhere along the line.  But in reality, these are sick, sick people.  I think it is because it is being done to hormonal boys that it doesn't get the same reaction it does when it's a make teacher and female student.  A kid who has endured this is going to have a f-ed up sexuality without some help.

I didn't say NEW tax code.  I said "tax code."  I don't care if it's 100 years old.  Still outrages me.

But why?  You probably came out ahead - you're just doing mental accounting that's ignoring that tax code was probably a net positive for you overall over the life of the investment.  Conversion to investment and deducting depreciation is a good thing - that's why just about everyone who can do it does.

As some might say, for 5 years you took gratuitous advantage of a tax "loophole" and then you get upset when some - not all - of that "welfare" gets recaptured on a sale.

I understand perfectly.  I understand that I recouped those "losses" over time.  When I received my return breakdown today, and my tax preparer showed me differences, it still pissed me off.

you have no way to calculate the citizenship numbers of the MS13 gang. either way closing the border will make zero difference on this gang as it started in the US and has members all over the country who were born here and are citizens of the US.  It is a gang that was started in the US and is an american gang however you want to spin it.

Bullshit.  And if we don’t get rid of them now, the problems in the future will be ten-fold.

Lol they make up less than 1 % of all gang murders in the US. There are approximately 1.4 million gang members in the us and there are 10,000 members of ms13. #fakenews

Do some research on "toxic food environment"  You will learn why.

My complaint about the cheeseburger making me feel like crap was really tongue-in-cheek.  But I found your toxic food environment interesting.  I've never heard that term before and looked it up.  It is pretty interesting and, knowing little about it, I have to say that I agree with the premise that it is a major driver of obesity.

I have been using that term and teaching that stuff for 5 or 6 years now.

So right now Fox is covering [live] a Trump campaign speech.  CNN is covering [live] Bernie kicking off his campaign.

Sigh.....both quit covering non-political news a long time ago (unless it's a shooting, a natural disaster, or a plane crash).

7 cents per pag here in Chicago.

I kind of want that to be implemented in ETB’s town so we can read his reaction (just a joke Ernest)

I like it.  Sometimes we shop at Aldi, and they charge you for bags.  Make you bring your own or buy theirs.

Prefer plastic as they are easier to carry all at the same time, but paper is okay is fine with me.

Have to just laugh at the retards who pay for bags.

Been to some places in Africa who have banned, or are about to, importing and the use of plastic bags as part of their green initiatives.

It is a little different than the reason in the states though. WIth many places lack of a trash system, people just throw out them outside and so many areas are littered with them so much so that our terp joked the National Flower of the country is a plastic bag.

"But members of the Salvadoran police have been killed by the dozens in each of the past three years, most in attacks that investigators and experts blame on MS-13, an international street gang. At least nine officers were killed in the first month of this year."

…..and continuing to illegally infiltrate the US and target our officers.   But there is no reason for a wall; in fact open borders are what we need.

I think I just realized the 30+ year battle over immigration has become so politicized that we're guaranteed nothing will ever be done.  It's now a wedge issue, like abortion and guns.

Also, kudos to Rand Paul for planning to vote against Trump's "national emergency" and explaining why it was important to do so.  But really that vote should be 100-0.

I agree. And not because I'm anti-Trump, but because he's following through on his principles, which is rare in politicians.
