Big Red turns down ECOL invite

You mean like honoring the second year of contracts? If it doesn't benefit you, don't do it.september63 wrote: If it doesnt benefit the ECOL , they wont do it. The ECOL doesnt "need" Big Red and wouldnt grant them any special provisions that other member schools dont have. Would they make the league better? Yes. They wont be given special circumstances though. -

It might not be an issue for them, but I am sure it would be an issue for us. The closest team to Steubenville in the ECOL is at least fifty miles. That's a long drive for a school night, especially in the winter. Even if Big Red got some concessions, we would still have to make some compromises because we can't play all the league games on weekends.GoChiefs wrote: Marietta and Zanesville has always had to travel. I doubt it would be an issue for either of them. -
GoChiefsIf travel is going to be a concern for Steubenville..then it's probably best that they just stay independent. You're gonna have to travel with just about any league. Be thankful you're not in the SEOAL. Lol
Logan's travel times are..
to Marietta - 72 miles (about an hour and a half)
to Ironton - 84 miles (about 2 hours)
to Jackson - 42 miles (a little over an hour)
to Portsmouth - 87 miles (almost 2 hours)
to Warren - 55 miles (a little over an hour)
to Gallipolis - 67 miles (about an hour and a half)
to Chillicothe - 41 miles (about an hour)
Mind you...these aren't just simple drives down the highway. These are the windy roads of SE Ohio. So..I know exactly what you mean when it comes to too much travel. Luckily, this was Ironton's last year in the league..and Marietta is on their way out too. So it won't be TOO bad then. -
FairwoodKingI have to assume Big Red doesn't just want in this league to help scheduling football. There must be other reasons. Apparently the AD thinks there are advantages in playing these teams in the non-football sports.
It will be interesting to see how all this plays out. -

And yet they still have to SQUEAK into the playoffs.GoChiefs wrote: If travel is going to be a concern for Steubenville..then it's probably best that they just stay independent. You're gonna have to travel with just about any league. Be thankful you're not in the SEOAL. Lol

10-0 and number 2? What not enough points from those teams in your little league?GoChiefs wrote:

Well..they could have been number 1..had Hoover not let Louisville kick their a**. If you would have given them a loss..then they would have been number 2 and we would have been number 1.Big Al Carter wrote: 10-0 and number 2? What not enough points from those teams in your little league? -

GoChiefsLOL..are you really serious with that statement? LOL When you know who Logan is and you learn a little bit about them...get back at me...OK...back to the topic at hand....Big Red...

Haha, I thought you were talkin about Jeff Logan from Hoover back in the 70s. But even then, that wouldn't have been true.Big Al Carter wrote: Howard>Logan -

skankSteubenville will dominate the ECOL.

skankAfter much thought and deliberation, I conclude.
Steubenville will dominate the ECOL. -

And I foresee many games where Reno clears the bench in the third quarter. I don't think most of us fans want to see that. As much as I like seeing Big Red win so much, I prefer to see competitive games. Dover is likely to be the only team that can compete with us year in and year out. I don't think New Philly and Zanesville will be that tough. The last time we played Zanesville (2005), they were the only team on our schedule with a losing record (2-8).skank wrote: Steubenville will dominate the ECOL. -
GoChiefsZanesville most years is a very good team. Don't let there recent years fool you. They are turning it back around. They were a pretty decent team last year going 9-1. Granted..they did only play one good team. But that wasn't of any fault of their own as most years...their schedule would have been a good one. But it just seemed like everyone they played last year was in a slump.

visionquestThe arrogance of Big Red fans lives on I see. How do you know they'll dominate? Why does Big Red even play games anymore? I mean, they'll obviously win them all. If Big Red got in the Big Ten, you'd all say, "this is a dumb move, Steubenville will kill everyone they play in the Big Ten!"

I don't see why this bothers people so much. They are just words of what fans feel about there team.visionquest wrote: The arrogance of Big Red fans lives on I see. How do you know they'll dominate? We don't know for sure that we will dominate, but we have history on our side. Over the past five years we have gone 68-4 with two state championships. Twice we played Dover, the ECOL champ, and we beat them both times. We have only lost one regular season game in the past seven years. During that time we had wins against Massillon, Poland, Ursuline, Woodland Hills, and some other very good teams.visionquest wrote: The arrogance of Big Red fans lives on I see. Let's put it this way: If Big Red gets into the ECOL, the gamblers will bet on us to win every game. -

Then what does it have to do with?september63 wrote: Nothing to do with football. -
FairwoodKingI get the impression that the majority of Big Red fans don't want to see this happen. But then, we don't get to vote. I will be very happy if this falls through.

GoChiefsNope..it's already been discussed..there will be no deleting posts unless they are in violation of the rules. If you don't want it edited..don't post it. You know how it's run in the high school boards and what's acceptable and what's not. Stay on the topic..and we won't have any issues with it in the future.
