Big Red turns down ECOL invite

I believe they would still have cross conference games in other sports. So, they wouldn't play them in football, but they would in other things occasionally.WooHaa! wrote: I'm probably missing something here, but why would Riverview vote against them if they are not going to be in the same division? -
ManO'WarWhich doesn't make sense, since we have played Riverview in the other sports besides football.
-
ferflogRiver View moved from the MVL to the ECOL because it would mean less travel. Now with Steubenville being in, their travel increases again. That, to my knowledge, is why the Black Bears opposed the Red and Black's entry into the league.
-
GoChiefsGotta feel bad for Marietta...get beat week in, week out in the league they just left, now it looks like the same thing is gonna happen to them in the ECOL
-
skankCongrats Steubenville folk....if this is what you wanted.
-
skankSorry Dover folk....if this is not what you wanted.

Woulda happened w/o Steubenville.GoChiefs wrote: Gotta feel bad for Marietta...get beat week in, week out in the league they just left, now it looks like the same thing is gonna happen to them in the ECOL -

Makes sense... never thought of that.ferflog wrote: River View moved from the MVL to the ECOL because it would mean less travel. Now with Steubenville being in, their travel increases again. That, to my knowledge, is why the Black Bears opposed the Red and Black's entry into the league. -

One dover folk is glad to see this happen. I hope it last for more then three years. Have to cross over to Carrollton for the next three.skank wrote: Sorry Dover folk....if this is not what you wanted. -
seabee570I cannot see how this benefits big red? are the league teams going to be competitive? how does belonging to a weak league benefit big red? (in football)
-
GoChiefsFrom what I hear, Big Red will be down the next few years, not out, but not as strong as normal. (Don't shoot me fella's, that's just what I hear, know nothing about them). So if that's the case, then yes, it would be a competitive league for them. Dover would give them a run, as well as Zanesville most years, and I'd imagine New Philly would as well. And it benefit's anyone that's an independent b/c you don't have to worry about filling out all 10 weeks on your schedule.
-
seabee570zanesville did not make the playoffs, dover will be a tough game, but I do not see any long term benefit,but....we shall see.....I am actually gonna go out on a limb, and predict that it will hurt big red in the long run...new philly....is ok,but I do not see big red having problems with league opponents,I feel that the caliber of league games may cause problems come playoff time for br....
-
GoChiefsYes, they didn't make the playoffs, but Zanesville was still a very good team last year. It's not there fault all of their opponents were down last year. Zanesville will not roll over for Big Red, you can count on that. Like I said, most years, they will give them a game. Dover, like you mentioned, will be a tough game. I can't really comment on New Philly, b/c I know nothing about them, but they were 9-1 as well, so I'd imagine they have to have something. Even with a scrub schedule, you have to be somewhat talented to go 9-1. Speaking from experience, of course a week league will hurt you. But I don't believe for a second the ECOL is as weak as you are trying to make it sound.
-
seabee570well,looking at the history of the league....cambridge-1994-boys golf/CLAYMONT-WRESTLING-1992/COSHOCTON-NONE/DOVER-BOYS TRACK & GIRLS HANDBALL/INDIAN VALLEY -NONE/MEADOWBROOK-GIRLS BASKETBALL/NEW PHILLY-NONE/RIVER VIEW-GIRLS BAKETBALL-06/07......these are the state championships,by sport. now, granted you have some newer members, but look at the amount of championships, and regional championships big red has since 1984.If i were the ecol.I would be happy to get big red.like I said thisleague aint exactly been a football powerhouse....while big red has been a football powerhouse by being on its own...
-
GoChiefsFootball is the only sport I have interest in, none of the others. Lol So, just b/c they don't have any state championships mean they won't give Steuby a game? That's just ridiculous. Please, show me where I have called the league a 'powerhouse' in football. I simply said they will give Big Red a run for there money. Once again, can't speak for Dover/New Philly, but I can tell you that the Blue Devils definitely will most years. If you think they won't, you obviously know nothing about them. If you think they are going to win the league easily year after year, I think you are wrong. Again, you have 4 teams that went 9-1 last year. If you don't want to give that credit, that's up to you, but you don't go 9-1 by being a bunch of scrubs, that's all there is to it.
-
seabee570I called br a powerhouse....I only care about football.....that league has no real powerhouse football teams....I can go back and look up the records of all the league teams in football.and overall,I bet the record is ok,it just aint great by br standards...AI did not say they would not give br a game..I am looking at the league as a whole...and it aint too good when it comes to football...just facts...so how many state championships from 6 teamsin the ecol=0000000
big red championships=a few since 1984
fact is the ecol aint that good in football -
seabee570you can be 9-1 all you want, but if you are not advancing deep into the playoffs, well then I guess you aint that good ..thats why you were 9-1,not 12-2 or better..................
-
seabee570its funny you laughed,YOU MISSSED THE POINT.....NO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FOOTBALL,I USED THE OTHER SPORTS THAT THEY WON BECAUSE THAT IS FUNNY.....
-
GoChiefsFact is, you base a good football team by state championships. That's pretty dumb considering they give out 6 trophies a year. Well hell, I guess that means there is only 6 power houses each year then doesn't it? If you think the ECOL or any league for that matter sucks just b/c they don't have any state championships. Well, I'll just quit discussing with you now. 9-1 by 4 teams proves your 'facts' that it 'ain't too good in football' pretty much wrong. If you like living in the past, by all means, go look up past records if you feel the need. But I for one know, those PAST records don't mean jack for the FUTURE. Fact is, the ECOL consistently has a couple teams a year that can contend. And that's not going to change.
-
GoChiefs
AGAIN, If State Championships mean you're a good team, then there are only 6 good teams every year. So, I guess Big Red wasn't a good team last year either!?seabee570 wrote: you can be 9-1 all you want, but if you are not advancing deep into the playoffs, well then I guess you aint that good ..thats why you were 9-1,not 12-2 or better.................. -
GoChiefs
Obviously, you missed the point, the point where I said I DON'T CARE ABOUT ANY OTHER HIGH SCHOOL SPORT BUT FOOTBALL. Nobody missed your point there guy. Everyone got what you were trying to do. Once again, A GOOD TEAM IS BASED ON JUST STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.seabee570 wrote: its funny you laughed,YOU MISSSED THE POINT.....NO STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS IN FOOTBALL,I USED THE OTHER SPORTS THAT THEY WON BECAUSE THAT IS FUNNY..... -
seabee570YOU GOTTA BE KIDDIN RIGHT?
ecol=0
br= a few
where did I say that state championships are the only thing that matters/
the ecol is a weak conference
br is not a WEAK TEAM
a good team is a team with a winning record consistently....hopefully.....better than 9 and 1
br was better than 9 and 1 and they made the playoffs
YOU MISSED THE POINT YOU NEED TO BE BETTER THAN 9-1 AND ADVANCE IN THE PLAYOFFS.... -
GoChiefs
Nobody missed your point, the points you are trying to make are just ignorant. 4 9-1 teams, that's all I'm going to say about it. And had Z'ville's opponents not had such a crappy year, it would have been 4 9-1 teams with 3 making the playoffs. That's good enough for me.seabee570 wrote: YOU MISSED THE POINT YOU NEED TO BE BETTER THAN 9-1 AND ADVANCE IN THE PLAYOFFS.... -
wags6817Big Red will dominate this league in football. I bet that they win it every year until Reno retires. The only team to even come close will be Dover and in most cases they will fall short. Big Red used to play Zanesville all the time and I do believe the Blue Devils only beat them once or twice. Big Red has it going on right now, while yes they may not be as good as the state championship teams, they are good to enough to run rough shot in this league. The real question will be other sports. I think their girls programs will get handled.
-
ManO'WarGoChiefs, I don't know who you talked to, but I think it was wishful thinking that Big Red is going downhill anytime soon. We are stacked from the 7th grade on up.
And we know all about Zanesville, as we played them from 1991 thru 2005 (12-3 record).
