Big Red turns down ECOL invite
-
september63Get off your high horse and play less than 7 home games a year. Hows that idea?
-
bridgeport2001I say stay on your high horse and let peaple cry about it.

Don't forget: the Steubenville athletic department turns the profits over to the school's general fund. Our football program pays for a math teacher. I'd like to see you do that in Dover.september63 wrote: Get off your high horse and play less than 7 home games a year. Hows that idea? -

I wouldn't be so rude to the Steubenville people, if this thing goes through, Dover has sniffed their last ECOL championship for a while.september63 wrote: Get off your high horse and play less than 7 home games a year. Hows that idea?
Hahahahahahahaha....Hahahahahahahaha....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. -

I think maybe you, being a Dover fan, should worry about honoring contracts instead of how many home games Steubenville plays.september63 wrote: Get off your high horse and play less than 7 home games a year. Hows that idea? -

Regardless of the addition of Big Red or not..it won't be an easy task for them to get past the Blue Devils anyways.skank wrote: Dover has sniffed their last ECOL championship for a while. -
skankToo bad it's a league game, or Dover could drop em off the schedule.
-
GoChiefsIf Dover can beat the Devils the first couple years straight..they might run away from the league anyways.
-
FairwoodKingI'm surprised Dover even wants Big Red in this league. It certainly is not going to help Dover's playoff chances.
-
skankI would imagine public cries of "bring em on" will quickly turn to actual crying in private.
-
FairwoodKingDover will never live down the fact that they cancelled the contract with Massillon, any more than Indian Creek will live down the fact that they were responsible for cancelling the contract with Big Red. I wish the OHSAA would penalize teams for breaking contracts, but they don't. Of course, the Creek contract was broken with the blessing of Big Red, so no penalty would have applied.

You are correct, as long as I am around, Dover will never live down wussing out....er, I mean, cancelling the contract with Massillon.FairwoodKing wrote: Dover will never live down the fact that they cancelled the contract with Massillon, any more than Indian Creek will live down the fact that they were responsible for cancelling the contract with Big Red. FairwoodKingIf Big Red and Dover end up in the same conference, I will predict that Big Red wins eight out of ten games. Of course, I could be wrong. Many years ago, my father predicted that Big Red would beat Brooke and Wheeling Park eight out of ten. So far we are 4-0 against Brooke and 10-0 against Park. And I don't recall even one of those 14 games that was close, especially with Park. Most of our ten wins have been shutouts.
Dover may live to regret inviting Big Red into this conference. -

steubenviile applied, but with several conditions. ball's in the ecol's court now... -

Condition #1-At all times, Steubenvilles ECOL opponent that week, gets to have 14 players on the field.Legend39 wrote:

Condition #2-Touchdowns scored by Steubenvilles opponent that week will be worth 8 points, Points after will be worth 3 points.
Condition #3Field goals for Steubenvilles opponent that week will count as 4.5 points,
Condition #4 Game officials must reside in the town of that weeks Steubenville opponent, and MUST be graduates of the school.
I've heard that these are the conditions as to try to keep the scores competative. -

Seriously, do you know what the conditions are?Legend39 wrote:

All league games must be played at Harding Stadium. I KID, I KID!FairwoodKing wrote: Seriously, do you know what the conditions are? -
Al CaponeThere has to be a reason that benefits Steubenville for them to join this league. I just haven't figured it out yet. But you can bet on the fact that the odds will be in Steubenvilles favor.
-
september63If it doesnt benefit the ECOL , they wont do it. The ECOL doesnt "need" Big Red and wouldnt grant them any special provisions that other member schools dont have. Would they make the league better? Yes. They wont be given special circumstances though.
-
TimberI know this is a football thread, but how strong are the other programs of Bid Red?
Basketball, Baseball, CC, Tennis, Swimming, soccer, golf, wrestling...
and the girls programs in general. I really do not know. -
Legend39don't know what the conditions are. just relaying info from an administrator...
-
FairwoodKingI would have to assume that the conditions involve scheduling of basketball and volleyball on school nights. But I don't think Zanesville and Marietta people would want to make the trip to Steubenville on a school night any more than we would want to go there.
-
GoChiefsMarietta and Zanesville has always had to travel. I doubt it would be an issue for either of them.

war_admiralSo far this yr;
Wrestling; Division II Sectional Champs produced two individual champs while qualifying nine team members to districts.
Basketball; This is Mike Haney's second season as head coach. His squad is at 9-9 and look to defeat East Liverpool tonight in tournament play. The basketball program is rebounding towards the hights of when Ray Saccoccia was at the helm in the late 80's and early 90's. The teams were always looking to go deep into the state playoffs.
Baseball; 09' 12-12 was one of the worst season dating back to 97' Coach Heatherington is entering his 22nd yr of coaching the red and is the best coach this school has had. His teams will regularly post close to 20 wins a yr as they did in 08' 22-7.
Track, soccer, swimming all do well.
Girls:
Basketball:09' Coach Casinelli red are 16-4 going into Wednesday Div II Sectional game vs Indian Creek. The program is strong with good roots. Past player Liz Repella has just been named to West Virgina university division’s national first team. An exercise physiology major with a 3.95 G.P.A., Repella has led No. 8 West Virginia (24-3, 11-2) to its highest-ever national ranking this season. A second team all-BIG EAST selection as a sophomore, she is the Mountaineers’ leading scorer this season, averaging 14.2 points per game.
Another past big red great is Sylvia Crawley. She is the head coach at Boston College. In her first season in 08' she led the Eagles to a 23-12 record and an appearance in the WNIT Final Four.
Volleyball: 09' Coach Govey team is 12-6. They are always very competitive.
soccer, swimming and track all do well.
