2013 Wayne County Athletic League Football

Opinionator;1518073 wrote:You 29FAN do not have any idea what you are talking about! My kid does play football and has dedicated his whole life from the time he started to play at 8 years old to this sport. It is his first love. He has played hurt, tired, burned out, offense, defense, cold, wet, in the rain, sleet and sometimes snow. He has subjected himself to missing out on family vacations, birthday parties, family outings and the like to be at practices, two-a-days and on and off season lifting. So don't sit there and say that these kids are NOT pushed to be the best they can be. I have supported my son and pushed him to play. Players have been taken out of positions that were rightly "earned" over their YEARS of playing for Rittman.

This coach waltzed into this town making promises he has not kept, to the school board, parents, boosters and mostly the players. After watching over the past 3 years Coach Dennis has showed nothing but disrespect to this whole community. Watch a game sometime and you will see the disappointment on his face when his kid doesn't make that touch down and another kid does. Or him yell at another player when his kid misses a play. Or how about him telling kids they wont play if they don't throw the ball to his kid. Tell me how that is good coaching? He has lost the respect of his players because of his lack of respect for them. He was only out for one player on that team and that is His own son. He has shown that he cares nothing for the other players and could care less about winning a game. If he cared about winning he would have left the players in that CAN play and let his son watch from the sidelines for a while. He likes to try and capitalized on his son looking good from the hard work of the other players.

So chew on that for a while. I have no sympathy for this man. The ones I have sympathy for are the boys that have lost their high school football career under this mans horrible coaching and his sons gloating. These boys will never get that back. For many over the last 3 years they will never play again. I can only hope that next year will be better for the boys and that they bring in a new coach that will live up to his word. Ask West Holmes what he did for their program?

This is our town, these are our boys and it is time something is done to give them a fighting chance to be all they can be.
Opinionator - This was the most well written and factual statement I have read on this feed. Very well said.

You are right about one thing wcalfan - It should start at home by the parents having their kids step away from this program until a new coach has been hired.

Listen, you are entitled to your opinion but you really need to know the facts. Did you know that this is the first time in THREE years that we have not had players suspended for disciplinary reasons??? Do you not think that plays somewhat of a role in what happens on the field??? We finally have an ENTIRE group of kids (and for the most part, parents) that have bought in to what the coaches are preaching and it is starting to show on the field. The SAME people that said our coach was an idiot and didn't know what he was doing are now praising him. Why is that? You mean to tell me that his approach this year is different than last year??? He is a better coach this year than last year? Come on....you tell me....what is different this year?

First of all don't go bashing the parents . People and parents are very passionate in Rittman. They support whatever team 100 percent and want the kids to do well. Trust me wcalfan we know the facts alot more than you will ever know. You wanna bash the parents go ahead but we all know the answers and have been there for the last 3 years watching this program fall apart because HE doesn't know how to make this a team sport. Just wait when the cancer is gone and see for yourself how much better they will be.

It's a failure of leadership. Maybe not just the coaches, but I rarely accept that these young men are the root problem (aside from lack of athleticism).
Eh, I've known, first-hand, kids that go through all of what you've mentioned, but aren't doing those things to the best of their abilities. They put in the time for a variety of reasons (being a football player is popular, parental pressure toward a particular sport, etc.), but it doesn't necessarily mean that wanting the team to succeed, and wanting to play their role in that, is one of them.

I'm not saying that's the case for any specific instance, but it's not unheard of.
rrfan;1518232 wrote:Man you guys are making me tired with all this reading. So fire the coach...then what? Who do you want that will be better? Could anyone make this team win? You do have to have talent no matter the coach and I don't think there is much of that at Rittman right now.
Eh, they've got SOME. Maybe not the likes of what other teams have, but enough to be competitive with at least a few of the WCAL teams, given the right coaching and team leadership.
    rrfan;1518299 wrote:Crap...I forgot that...
Liar! Nobody in Wayne County has forgotten about that.

Ultimately, this still robs the kids the ability to play, which, given that so few will go on to play at the collegiate level, can still be devastating for the kids who genuinely desire to play and excel at doing so.

That DOES beg a question: How long after Blake graduates does Coach Dennis stick around, assuming they don't can him anyway?

Someone on here had said he was going to step down today. Did he?
  • pdracer
So the vast majority of the players and parents have bought into Coach Dennis' crap? Did someone really just say that?

I've not heard that he stepped down and would be VERY surprised if that happens mid-season.

Also i hear that Mr Dennis will be stepping down Tuesday as head coach after he faces the booster club and then the school board. I don't know the whole situation but i hear its about money among other things. But i also hear that he is going to be the Track coach. Hopefully he doesn't ruin that program like he did the football one.

In light of fan reaction to Fridays Waynedale vs Chippewa football game, I was asked to post the following. Please accept this letter and remain respectful!

So everyone understands how this letter came about through the current channel, I will briefly explain.
I do not face book or use any other public forum to voice my opinion or discuss anyone else’s opinions.
I work on a computer to pay the bills and have no interest in spending any more time on them.
So I asked that this letter to be posted by a helpful hand.

I want to send my deepest apologies to the coaching staff, the football team & especially the students and
fans that sit through my tirade last Friday night.

My actions were ridiculous, completely out of line and unnecessary.

Our coaching staff & kids work extremely hard to win a game.

At the end of Friday night IT IS JUST A GAME.

I am a passionate individual. I love Waynedale High School . Not just football but everything about our school.

Well that post made my day. Bottom line is Chippewa made fewer mistakes than the Bears last Friday and won the game. Great to see someone man up when they make a mistake and apologize. Not many people like that anymore. Most are looking to blame everyone and take zero responsibility. Good work!

I was lucky enough to grow up going to school with the whole King, Stanley, Lewis clan. Most unique bunch of transplanted West Virginia hillbillys you'd ever want to run across. And I mean that as a compliment. They are a tight knit group. They came from very humble backgrounds but would give you the shirt off their backs. Bucky was a intense dude in every sport he played growing up. And he's been an intense fan ever since he graduated. I'm sure his apology is sincere. I'm sure this isn't the last time he flies off the hook at a game either! lol!

I hate to rehash this, BUT, I have to say that you are off base here. When we are losing...he's still screaming, but he stands out because fans are on their seats and he is critical, sometimes saying things that#1 some people dont want to hear, #2 some people want to say but don't and #3 somethings, I guess are better left unsaid!

Believe me...find him at a VB game, wrestling match, Baseball game or even in his living room during Buckeyes or Browns game, lol ....He's passionate, opinionated and heard.

Some have labeled those passionate supportive fans/parents "bad fans". I disagree. We are being supportive of those kids that work hard and deserve to play! And to be encouraging to those players who actually make things happen.
  • wcalfan
I think we need to all make sure we are promoting the right thing here. PASSION is great but many of you have also included the word SUPPORTIVE. Verbally berating a coach (with profanity) loud enough so the players on the sideline hear it and loud enough to make a lot of people sitting close to him uncomfortable is NOT SUPPORTIVE.

...I totally agree. Nothing bugs me more than to sit through a flag football game or a pee-wee game and then hear a parent say..."Well, even though they did not win they still had fun." To me, you play the game to WIN...PERIOD! Fun ONLY comes with winning. Ask Chippewa, Waynedale, Smithville, Rittman, and Orrville if they had "fun" last football season?? NO, its not fun getting beat. Ask Chippewa, Orrville, and Waynedale this season if they are having "fun" after they have turned things around with some wins...YES, winning=FUN

I don't condone the use of profanity at any public sporting event.

I understand a fan/parents frustration when things don't go good for their team.

They know the team is capable of doing well, but a bad (judgement) call by a referee, or maybe an improper choice of play calling keeps the team from realizing their potential in a given situation.

It's part of the game & a good team puts themselves in a position to win where one bad call won't decide the outcome of the game.

I do support every fans right to cheer on "their" team, as loud and passionate as they wish.

(Ever see a major pro or college game lately with the message boards urging the fans louder ? Only every game.)

If it's too loud in the stands for some people, they don't have to stay there.

Now on to Northwestern tonite to rough up the huskies.

    Go Bears !
