Orrville @ Triway might be a fun one.

The most entertaining games for true football fans would probably be the Huskies and Pirates and quite possibly Orrville and Triway. The intrigue is harrowing...
  • O-Trap
Yeah, the two games that seem like they'd actually be fun to watch are either the Northwestern/Black River for the equitable quality of play or Triway/Orrville for the melodramatics.

Cats fall to CVCA after losing pretty much everyone to injury. NW whips on Black River, D-town SPANKS Waterloo and yes, Rittman wins one against Grove City in the last few minutes of the game. What i night of football.

And you are excited that Rittman had to beat a lowly team like Grove City? Come on people wake up and smell all the BS in Rittman and What Dennis is cooking. How low will this man go to get a win?
  • Havin Fun
Waynedale has their way against Ridgewood. If this team stays healthy, they will win some big games. Very fast and skilled. Could still struggle when outsized which may not happen much in the WCAL this year?
Very surprised at the Norwayne score. CVCA is not real good this year.
  • pdracer
Wake up and smell the B.S.? I think if you go back and read anything I've posted you would see that I am no fan of Dennis. With that being said, Grove City did go 5-5 last year and a win is a win at this point. We need something to cheer for, besides the Dennis Departure!

How about those Chipps huh? They're already close to scoring more points then they scored ALL of last year.
  • Havin Fun
The Chipps are going to win a few league games. I said it a week ago, Smithville could be the 0-10 team this year.
  • beverboy1
bulldogs had a big win over tuslaw !! again to many turnover that turns into pts for the wrong team !!

Don't get me wrong I am proud for the boys of Rittman besides a certain one . They work hard and deserve much more respect than they get. Dennis will never depart though and if he does he will hand it over to his son which isnt fair for anyone else who might want the job. The chipps are looking good. Over a 100 points in 2 games. The bobcats let one slip away in the final minutes but i think they will be ok. They did play without their true D-1 stars the last quarter or so. Not looking good in Smithville country right now.

good win for Dalton, but still too many turnovers and penalties. This should have been a 35 to 14 win. Bulldogs dominated the second half, but mistakes and yellow flags let the mustangs hang around. Run defense is still looking excellent. Pass D was again solid with a couple big breakdowns mixed in. The freshman Fitzwater is really impressing me at LB. Would like to see them take advantage of their height at receiver a little more still - they have some good ones.

Not sure where to start with this years version of the Cats. I missed the Wellington blowout and was expecting more of the same last night. What we got was a shock. Norwayne has some talented athletes but IMO does not measure up to the Cats of 2011 and 2012. I think everyone believed we would see the same type of domination that we have grown used to. Not the case. This years version of the Cats has some definite holes. Young and undersized in a lot of positions, the Cats seem fragile. I'm very concerned with the injuries and I cant for the life of me figure out why our best player spent the entire 4th qtr on the sideline watching. He didnt appear to be hurt. I know he was cramping at one point but I've never known that to sideline a high profile player for that long. I feel we have lost our edge and are lacking the leadership that we've had that last couple years.

Welcome to the club. We've been here for a good six years or so, sans one exception. It's not a fun place to be.

Speaking of, the Mogadore team of this year is not the tough, highly-talented team they've been in the past. But you wouldn't have known that watching them play Smithville.

Smithville has enough size to win games. They have enough talent as well.

They're pretty slow, but in the past, they've won plenty of games on 4-7 yards per play.

There are two glaring things I see in this team that trouble me a great deal:

    1. They've shown ZERO killer instinct. Nobody seems to hate losing, even one play. Nobody plays mean. Nobody hits like then WANNA hit.

    2. There is far less discipline than I'm used to seeing. Lots of arm tackling and over-pursuit. There have been about ELEVEN fumbles in the first two games. ELEVEN. Not joking. Not exaggerating. That's the real number. They've lost a fair number of them, which has exacerbated the score margins.

As it is, they've scored 20 points in two games. They've given up 97. One team warranted a lopsided score, as Loudonville is the real deal, and Smithville is young. Mogadore is not five touchdowns more talented than Smithville. Not close. But they were more disciplined, and they played meaner.

Until Smithville has a killer instinct back, and until they're passionately buying into the coaches' program, they won't be in close games. They'll win big against teams they're supposed to beat, and they'll get blown out by teams they're supposed to lose to.

^^^^^Is it quite possible that the problem is the coaches' program?? Just wondering.

By all indications, no. The coaching has been successful in the past, even without a lot of talent.

At this point, however, I'm waiting to see what the coaches do in the next two or three years. THAT will be the biggest tell to me. Once they've had four years to implement their program (ie. get the freshmen to the senior level), that should give a better indication.

Still Besancon was successful at Rittman and New London, and he was part of the thick of great teams as an assistant in Smithville. The man has brought success with him wherever he's been.

Moreover, they still have a lot of the same faces with the headsets on the sidelines. It's not a completely new system. Sure, Schrock being absent is a HUGE void, but I'm confident in the current coaches, as I've been under the coaching of several of them.

And in watching the game, you can visibly see the lack of tenacity from the players. That's on the players. I haven't seen as much a problem with the playcalling as the desire.

Of course, we do remember that these are still high school kids. As such, I certainly won't be calling for their heads, but they're also old enough to take responsibility for their actions, and I submit that their actions are what has been the problem thus far, in a visible way.

Huh!? Spoken by someone obviously not familiar with CVCA or the PAC. I don't blame you, though, as not many in this area know much or care about CVCA sports. But I can tell you that CVCA is very good this year, and was one of the favorites to win the conference alongside Indian Valley and Manchester. This victory just solidified that statement. Last year CVCA gave Norwayne their closest game of the season until the Bobcats lost in the state semi-finals, and that was when CVCA was a slower, run-heavy offense. This year CVCA is better all around - they are faster than they've ever been, they have some excellent wide receivers, and a QB with a D-1 arm that can distribute the ball. In addition, I'm sure they still have the run-game element to their offense that they have always had, producing studs like Pettigrew, Utley, and others. Ask the Norwayne players... they'll tell you that CVCA is no joke. (Seriously, their players are saying how CVCA is for real and the game was not a fluke.) I know some people that actually picked CVCA straight up in this game, so it wasn't as big of a surprise as some might think.

Whole-heartedly agree. I live pretty close to CVCA, and the buzz around here has been that they are VERY optimistic about their season this year.

I have to agree with you Trap! This is not the Smithville program I am use to watching! I however am not sold on Besancon. He took terrible programs at New London and Rittman and made them better but not great! I thought maybe this coming week Smithville might have a chance but Fairless comes in at 2-0 and beat up on a pretty good Garaway team last week! I checked the records and NO Smithville team has ever gone 0-10, this could be the year.
  • oldsmithie
I wanted add that I also think that lack of discipline goes right back to coaching!

Public schools all go in cycles. Look at Orrville. I don't see an 0-10 in Smithville future but the season will be a challenge.

I stand by my comments on CVCA. They will finish 3'rd or 4'th in the PAC. Manchester will win the title. Manchester had a relatively easy game against Woodridge who beat CVCA by 2 or 3 three scores in week one. We shall see won't we?? This is what makes chat rooms fun.
Anyone know why Norwaynes best players did not come back in the game? Are they soft or were they truly unable to play anymore? Have not seen that addressed.
I think Hillsdale could be the team in the WCAL this year that can control teams on both sides of the ball. Don't know if anyone else has the ability to do that.
