1_beastNot sure what happen in red zone 2 times in 1st quarter? Enlighten me,

oldsmithieI watched as Smithville took it on the chin again! The Smithies actually scored the first 2 touchdowns and then the wheels came off. The funny thing is that Smithville looked good at times on offense but could not handle the passing attack and the spread offense of Fairless. Smithville has got to toughen up on defense or it is going to be a very long season. Things don't get any easier as the next 3 are Waynedale, Hillsdale and Northwestern.

It seemed like the whole first quarter was played in field position favorable to Waynedale. However, Triway just wore on the Golden Bears, scored first, Waynedale responded, and then Triway kept the pressure on for the rest of the game. Triway is actually very young, as well - we have 1 big and 2-3 other senior contributors, but other than that we are all juniors and some sophomores.
Yep, Bears looked sharp early...Triways coaches made some adjustments on both sides of the ball...Bears coaches were overwhelmed by Triways adjustments. Game over. -
1486wdTimken's QB won the game for them - excellent athlete. If he had some better players around him, the Trojans would be really good. Dalton had the better overall team, but Timken's QB was the best athlete on the field - great speed and nice arm. Dalton is still defending the run very , very well. The pass D is a little hit or miss. Burke has been throwing some nice balls and the big receiving core is playing well. The offense got bogged down a little in the second half unfortunately for the bulldogs. They have a much better team than last year, but could end up with only a slightly better record.

As Red Rum so eloquently put it:
"and so begins the downward spiral.... " -
jacoNever understood why Orrville and Wooster understand it's beneath them to schedule WCAL teams, but Triway has no compunctions. But, whatever floats their boats down there.

K-DOG86Does anyone knowe how D1 did down in Mapleton?

Since 2005, Triway is 5-6 against scheduled WCAL teams.jaco;1500215 wrote:Never understood why Orrville and Wooster understand it's beneath them to schedule WCAL teams, but Triway has no compunctions. But, whatever floats their boats down there.
They're 0-2 against Smithville, and they're 5-4 against Waynedale.
Also worth noting, two of their wins against Waynedale were by one score or less.
Their scheduled games against Smithville during that time, they lost 41-7 and 39-0.
Their wins against Waynedale have been by 3 points, 16 points, 7 points, 24 points, and 15 points. Essentially, only one win was by more than two scores.
Waynedale's wins against them have been by 10 points, 15 points, 35 points, and 30 points.
Overall, the scoring between the two over that stretch is 184 (Triway) to 209 (Waynedale).
Throw in the Smithville games, and the WCAL has outscored Triway 289 - 191 in 11 games, with a record of 6-5 against Triway.
Of the years that Waynedale has beaten Triway, their league-play records have been 4-3, 6-1, 4-3, and 2-5. Their overall records have been 6-4, 9-3, 7-3, and 5-5.
Of the years that Triway has beaten Waynedale (not counting this year), Triway's overall records have been 7-3, 8-3, 8-3, and 8-3.
So, given all this, it hardly seems like Triway is above playing the WCAL. When they've played a league champ contender, they've gotten drubbed (sans 2008, where both teams went 8-3, and Triway won by 3 points) by 30 or more. They've lost to two mediocre Waynedale teams. In 2010, Triway (an eventual playoff team) beat a 2-8 Waynedale squad by a mere 7 points.
Now, don't misunderstane what I'm saying. Triway is a fine program. I take pride in having spent several years in their elementary school system, and I've cheered them on in several games. They are a quality school with a quality football program.
Perhaps the WCAL simply isn't the pee-wee program you think it is, though. -

Not trying to start a downward spiral....I'm really very impressed with how the Bears have bounced back after last season. I'm on record on here as saying Urban Meyer would have been lucky to go 2-8 with last years team.
I'm just saying that over the last 5 or 6 years, I haven't seen X's and O's win a single game. Talent level was close Friday night, Bears got outcoached. -
Havin FunThere is no coach in the country who would have won a game with that Bear team last year. They had junior high size on the line, a new QB and zero senior leadership. Also were coming off winning season and had lost 6 two way starters.
As for the Triway game, the Titans are a quality team with some great players. A loss is not surprising. Hopefully Strausbagh will be back next week and the Bears can pound the Smithies. -

WalefanHow about my chipps! 2-1 and very easily could be 3-0. I don't know if I saw this coming this soon, but it is a great feeling here in town. Hopefully we can continue this start into league play. It is so nice to have a coach that knows what he is doing. We haven't seen this since the first Hessey era

WCALfootballfanI can't wait to see how the 3 D1 guys perform in the WCAL opener tomorrow. Has there ever been a time where the league featured D1 players on both teams? For the first time in Dennis' tenure Norwaynes defense appears to be struggling. This should provide the younger Dennis with a great game to prove to everyone how good he really is. My understanding is that Norwayne has 2 starting DB's out with injuries. Dennis should be able to shred this secondary. I'm actually going to the Dtown/Northwestern game but I look forward to hearing how it goes.

I knew that I had quoted last years stats on Dennis so I had to go back and find them again to compare it to his stats so far thru 3 games this season. The Daily Record has him at 21 catches for 243 yards and 5 TD's. So he has matched last season's stats just in the first three games, not bad!Old Rider;1483464 wrote:I just can not understand how the recruiting coach from Akron who is assigned to our area can even keep his job?? How does he miss on a kid like Berger and then come back with an offer for Dennis?? Bowden better get to firing that retard...Akron was 1-11 last year and now we all know why. Its funny that both articles I have read in regards to Dennis going to Akron talk about his great route running and speed....well hell, if thats the case, then every receiver gets a scholarship. His season stats resembled a WR coming off one great game...221 total yards and 5 TD's....what a joke! -
WCALfootballfanRittman has played 3 of the worst teams in the state of Ohio and they throw to him constantly. There's another kid on Rittmans team that has more yardage then him on 8 catches. I think I'd get that kid the ball more

Norwayne - A whole lot of points
Rittman - Not a lot of points -

It's also possible that player runs more of the vertical routes (obviously) and the Dennis boy is more of a possession receiver. Not every receiver can be effective running deep routes, just like every receiver can't be effective running short to intermediate routes.Old Rider;1503906 wrote:I agree. But Daddy is in charge. -
pdracerCould be that regardless of what route he runs, he looks for the sidelines as soon as the catch is made! Yes his routes are short, but a D1 recruit should be making yards after that catch. This is going to be a fun game to watch. Shouldn't be hard for the cats to figure things out. Hit Dennis hard early, cover him short and blitz whatever side he lines up on because that's the side Ramsier is rolling to. Very possible that this years score will surpass last years.
-
BobcatI predict Harris has more yards and more points in the first 2 quarters then Rittman has the whole game. That being said I think Rittman would be wise to try to get Endress loose on long routes. Norwayne's Db's are not very good and tend to give up alot of big plays. This years defense is not very good as of right now. We had gotten really used to being up 42 - 0 at half and watching the reserves in the second half. Those days might be over
As far as Dennis goes it sounds like his dad pretty much just dumps the ball off to him on short out routes. That gets his catch totals up. He usually doesn't do a whole lot with it after the catch. For some reason everyone is infatuated with how many catches someone has. I believe it's what you do with the ball once you have it that matters. Dennis doesn't do much. Endress seems to do alot....as does Harris. Rittman has obviously gone to a more pass heavy offense. So has Norwayne, since we dont run the ball well. That is automatically going to drive everyone's numbers up.
Norwayne wins this one very easily -

Bobcatlast years score could have been 156 - 6 if they wanted it to be. Norwayne typically backs it down after 2 quarters in these types of games. If they're smart they'll work on the running game. We all know Harris can run down the sidelines and catch a pass. We need to work on the things that we are going to need against better competition. The coaching staff has typically done a nice job of calling off the dogs and working on the week spots. I dont look for tonight to be any different. I'd also hate to see anyone get hurt if the game is out of reach and it's not necessary.
-
rrfan156-6? I am not sure that was possible...But norwayne will win this one very easily...

Havin FunThere are some good games this week in the league. Actually with the exception of the Norwayne Rittman game, the other three games should all be good ones. They are all toss ups in my view except possibly NW who could win easily. Rittman isn't going to win a game in the league so who really cares about how the coaches son does?
-
WCALfootballfanThe "coachs son" thing is agood point HF. I am very interested to see how that Smithville/Waynedale game turns out also. I think Waynedale wins that one without too much trouble. If Rittman was better Smithville could be headin toward a season that they might not be able to win a game.
