Waynedale Football?

Why is this happening? Has the attitude of the kids in the district become so soft that it's come to this? Or is it a coaching issue? What has Z done to lose the respect of the kids? Or are the kids and parents the problem? What needs to change? This is one of the lowest points in Bear history...The only thing that compares is the 86 debacle where a new coach was brought in from outside the district and didn't last the whole season. Comments please:(

Iced, smart move creating a forum. Save the other people from having to listen to me rant.

I think it may be a combination of things but I do truly believe it can be fixed. However, it is going to take the entire "community" to do it. However, it HAS to start at home with these kids. We have way to many parents pointing fingers and placing the blame. I think you would be shocked at some of the things that are being said in our stands and in conversations throughout the district. Everyone gets on here and says "you ought to be ashamed of yourself for singling out the kids" but in fact many of them are doing that same thing.

We have an alum (Mr. Mountain Man) who is on here calling our coach a monkey and I know he apologized for saying that but it is WAY TO LATE for apologies now. He has a nephew on the team and he thinks he is helping the situation by getting on here an venting his frustrations. Some of the others on her are parents as well and I know it. Are you telling me that the only time they show frustration is on this forum? No way! If they say that, then they are liars!

This nothing compared to 1986...I get queezy just thinking of that year. Our coach now is a Golden Bear through and through and knows what it takes to get these kids to be successful people when they leave the school. There may be a few kids that he has made unhappy through the years, but for every one them there are 10 kids that have nothing but good things to say about him. You are NEVER going to please every one.

Here is what it is...Coach Z makes these kids accoutable for their actions and it is sad that many of them do not get this at home. Trust me on this one! Then you add in the fact that we just don't have the horses right now to compete. I mean look at this past Friday night. Chippewa had lost 29 straight games but if you were to line the 2 teams up side by side and ask a person who had no knowledge of the 2 teams, which one had the streak. I will bet they would have guessed the Bears. I hate to say that, but it is a fact.

Im not well versed in Waynedale football.

1983? Bears Started 0-5, only to finish 5-5 and share the league title (i think, im not checking history books)

I will say that 1986 season was a rough one, esp. following the 85 teams success.(only 5 seniors, 3 starters, ridiculous coach that was relieved of duties midseason) That year we not only went 1-9, but end a 20+ year win streak against Norwayne.

1987 saw the Bears at 8-2 (rookie head coach with athletic kids)....

88 Bears lost to Hillsdale for the 1st time in school history? (if not the at least 20+ years) going 3-7, a season that could have very well been 7-3.(lost a great class but returned many talented kids at skill pos as well as linemen, I feel kids were out of position and favortism was at work )

1989 9-1.....there is a 5 year of peaks and valleys.

You had the run of 30? straight regular season wins in the backend of the 90's.

2000's again down, down and 03 just missed a winnable game over VASJ, I still think if Hendrix isn't sick, that game is won.

Fast forward to recent history, just a few years ago there was 70? kids on the roster? Remember the platoon system? Now our numbers are ____?

Is it coaching or parenting or kids? Or is it Bush's fault?

83 was a strange ride....I remember it well....team was loaded but had a sense of entitlement. Lost the first five games by a total of less than 20 points. Lots of red zone fumbles and stupid penalties to lose games. Week 6 we go to Norwayne to play a 5-0 team and just pound them.

Z needs to sit these kids down, and with the support of the board, tell them, and the parents, he ain't changing and he ain't going anywhere. So they better get with the program or move to Wooster with all the lazy kids

If they would do this I would leave the freshman out of it! 2 year Jr High football champs, 2 year jr high basketball champs, and a State Championship in baseball... 1 under Z and 1 under the most controversial baseball coach ever! They have proved time and time again that they have the talent, the heart and the drive to get the job done.

Why dosn't he play football? Heard the kidd is a bad a--?

Reid Stanley was a Jr high State Champ! Jack Staggs also was a Jr High State Champ. He apparently stopped football to specialize in wrestling. Looks like its paying off, he won 2 state titles in 3 years.

Perdiction here this freashmen class will we strong in wrestling, will make some noise on the basketbal court, but with maybe four football players in the group that will add up to about a 4-6 season..So Bear gridiron fans just get use to it, its about numbers a few can not carry the class, you have deveolpe the others and by looking at the current roster its about cuddling the athletes when then linemen are the blame for worst offense seheme for them, maybe if the senior rb's are not getting it done after 0-7 it's time for a change? just tought!!

Leave the freshmen out? Ummmmm no, they need to be in the conversation as well since they have 3 more years. Junior high championships are good and so is a "state" championship but once again we are talking JUNIOR HIGH. This is now HIGH SCHOOL and they are now playing against kids that are all ages. Let's be honest, these freshmen won because they had a lot more talent than most teams.

"Controversial baseball coach", hmmmm. He must have done something right to win a "state" championship and a lot of baseball games. Ahhhhh, wait.....you must have a dog in that fight, huh? Once again parents, let the coaches coach and the players play!

ere is a friend of mine that does weekly blogs. I think that his write up on Waynedale should be taken to heart.
    1. Something very odd is going on at Waynedale. I am not close to the situation (although I do read a lot about it), so I do not wish to speculate. But with my alma mater playing them just about everyyear in every sport, I cannot remember a time when things were in such disarray over there just North of Amish country. When they first started the year 0-3, I thought maybe it was injuries, ‘cuz they had injuries. Then they were 0-6, and I thought maybe it was that they were just a below average team playing some decent teams, ‘cuz their first 6 games were against some pretty good teams. Then this past week they lost to Chippewa by 16 at home! Now my head is spinning. There are many people out there voicing very negative opinions, and I would strongly encourage them to be more supportive of the school, team, and personnel (both players and coaches), and save the derogatory, critical, judgemental talk until the season is over. There is absolutely NO good that can come of that bull crap chatter while the season is still going on, so please just wait 3 more weeks until the season is over. All your nasty complaining will do is divide the team and community even more. This is high school football we’re talking about. Put it in perspective, and think before you spout off.

Yea a 9th grade girl. I guess there is no argueing with you. These teenage boys could be 7 -0 right now and you would still find something to run them into the ground for. It's people like you that ruin their confidence and make the BOYs feel like they are never good enough to accomplish anything!

Huh? What are you talking about now?

Listen, if these boys were 7-0 right now, people like yourself wouldn't be on here BASHING our coach. You would be on here singing his praises. That's an absolute fact and YOU know it. AND, if that was the case I wouldn't have to be on here defending our coach.

I will continue to say this...let the coaches coach, the players play, and fans sit there and be POSITIVE SUPPORTERS FOR EVERYONE. It really is very simple....
