Steubenville Big Red 2012 schedule

  • FairwoodKing
The official schedule probably won't be out for at least four more months, but I thought it would be interesting to speculate on what the schedule will be or what we want it to be.

I don't have any inside information, but I think I can make an educated guess. Here is what I think it will be:

Week 1 (Thursday): Buchtel (I'm sure about this one)
Week 2 (Saturday morning): WPIAL AAAA team, probably Gateway, at Rally in Death Valley
    Week 3: at St. Clairsville
    Week 4: Ursuline
Week 5: at Morgantown (I'm sure we're playing there, but I am not certain about Week 5)
    Week 6: Boardman
    Week 7: Brooke
Week 8: at Massillon (if we're going to play them, it will have to be Week 5 or Week 8)
    Week 9: Buffalo St. Joe's
    Week 10: O'Hara

    Anyone agree or disagree?

Why continue to schedule O'Hara? They are the size of Toronto.

Funny you bring up Gateway. In Pittsburgh they were wanting one weekend with three games at Heinz Field. One of those match-ups were Gateway and Big Red. This was coming from some of the people who worked at Heinz Field last April or May when they weren't sure if there was going to be a NFL season, so they were making plans on events being held there during the strike. I was wondering if they were still trying to get that game.

I think Buchtel is week 2....Ursuline is week 6.....MoJo is week 7...Motown is week 8. That's all I know for sure.

Massillon is either week 5 or nowhere.
  • FairwoodKing
No, I'm sure that Buchtel is Week 1. That would leave Week 2 open to play a Pittsburgh team.

That theoretical schedule has 3 away games on it. I'm pretty sure they will burn the HS to the ground if the number ever goes above 2.

Buchtel opens with McKinley...so unless they are playing a doubleheader, they will not be in Steubenville.

We had 4 a few years ago.

O'Hara is a good team to play in Week 10 because it gives Big Red a breather between the regular schedule and the playoffs. We also clear $20K by playing them. I'm sure we will continue to play them until they decide to drop us.

Clear 20K from a small team from northern New York that brings no crowd? I don't believe that.

You have to factor in Big Red's fan base....concessions, parking, 50/50, gameball, etc...

Big Red makes more money playing O'Hara twice at home than playing Ursuline at home and then on the road.

So what your saying is, you guys are afraid to go out of the Steubenville City Limits for games and are little sissies that cant travel. You should see how Creek travels. And you guys should try traveling. Try being the team on the other side of the log and travel to places like Canada, NY, and Buffalo. You guys say you're the 'Mighty Big Red'... It's why Creek has the BEST fans in the OVAC. Period.

You're out of your mind. In the past few years Big Red has traveled to Columbus to play Watterson, to Massillon, to Poland, to Youngstown to play Ursuline, and all sorts of places to play playoff games. This year we go to Massillon and Morgantown. Creek doesn't ever play teams that far away. And, of course, Creek isn't good enough to worry about long trips in the playoffs.

Reno explained this at a boosters club meeting a couple of years ago. Big Red has 4000 season ticket holders. They pay $6 a ticket. That means that even if we play a team from Canada that brings absolutely no fans, we still take in $24K in ticket sales. If we have to put the team up in a motel, that never comes to more than $4K leaving us with a net of $20K.

All in Ohio. What about out of the state and our region?

Since when is Morgantown in Ohio?

Ask Reno. I'm just repeating what he told me.

As a matter of record, when we played at Massillon in 2010, we requested 4000 tickets. I'd like to see Creek do anything like that!

They really showed their dedication during the Big Red playoff game, when they all left during the 3rd quarter.

I'm trying to get news about the Massillon game from the Massillon blogs, but so far there is nothing to report. According to their website, they have weeks 5 and 8 open, although someone on here posted that they found a team for week 8. It would be a crying shame if we didn't play them this year just because we couldn't get our schedule straightened out.

Then why not schedule a "breather" from Ohio in week 10 instead of 2 states away?
  • ManO'War
Most Ohio teams have week 10 filled with a "rivalry" game....so it is a very hard week to fill.

So far it looks like this...according to various sources.

    1. ?
    2. Buchtel
    3. @ East Liverpool
    4. Brooke
    5. ?
    6. Balt Mt St Joes
    7. Ursuline
    8. @ Morgantown
    9. ?
    10. ?

The only opening for @ Massillon would be week 5. 9 and 10 could be the Buffalos.

Week 1 is the OVAC Kickoff night
