That's why Reno and the staff like to get these kids in the lower grades; to get a good handle on who wants to pay the price and, at that level a lot can be learned about where they would best fit in position wise.

    Cheers.

    .
Westinghouse, PA. brings back memories: Pete Dimperio coached that team with only one assistant. Channel 2 had a half hour special on his coaching program. He used 2 and sometimes 3 running backs who shared carries. He had a great rapport with the mostly black athletes on his team. Their win record was always tops in their league. They played a very good Steubenville Central Team down here one year. After Central scored first, Westinghouse rolled to an easy win. Pete mentioned that he never used scouting film. Before the games, Mrs. Dimperio would have the team over for a spaghetti dinner. We now know that spaghetti is a complex carbohydrate meal that releases energy slowly rather than a quick rush.
Pete held many coaching seminars and I believe Reno and some other local coaches went to at least one of them.
    Cheers.

Timon usually beats St Joes...so that is an upgrade.

I'm surprised to see that Big Red has never played Westinghouse before. I could have sworn we played each other in the 1950's, but I guess it isn't so.

We have played DC Wilson. In fact, they beat us once.

I'm not really surprised that Buffalo St. Joe's finally dropped us. Last year they had a star quarterback. If they couldn't beat us with him, then they can't beat us.

I thought we had played them too...but we used to play so many Pittsburgh teams that they all kind of sound the same.

Apparently they used to play Central, but they never played us.

    09/07 (H) Bishop Timon-St Jude, NY

    09/14 (H) Brooke, WV

    09/21 (A) Massillon Washington

    09/28 (H) Westinghouse, PA

    10/05 (H) Youngstown Ursuline

    10/12 (A) Morgantown, WV

10/19 (-) Open (* Parkersburg South needs a game on this date also)

    10/26 (H) Buchtel

Conspicuously absent are Buffalo St. Joe's and O'Hara. But there is another Buffalo area team to take their place.
with the exception of Brooke and maybe Ursuline, the only people sitting on visitors side with that home schedule will be the teachers.

I believe they played Central once. They also played at Warren Harding that year an lost 6-0. I believe Warren was undefeated that year.

Like I said, what difference does it make, very few of the local schools brought more than a handful of people anyways. Even some of the Central and Wintersville games the visitor side wasn't full.

I thought I'd mention that Todd Filtz, a first team All Ohio Linebacker in 2000 at Steubenville Big Red, will be taking over the head coaching job at Canton McKinley. The 29 year old Filtz, who is believed to be the youngest head coach in McKinley's history, spent the last 4 seasons at Div.2 Maple Hights where he was 6-4 his first year, then 12-3 and state runner-up in 2009. His tream went 15-0 in 2010 and won the state championship, then 8-3 in 2011, losing in the first round of the playoffs. Todd started 4 years for Muskingum University. Here's to wishing Todd success in his new role.

I wonder if there is a chance of Big Red getting them on the schedule?
    Cheers.

actually alot of Big Red fans sit over there . They are very good seats.

I went to the stadium yesterday to see the progress on the new field. It looks very nice. They will let you watch from the stands to see the installation while they are working.
    Cheers.

I am always over there in between the 40's and with room to stretch my legs outs and a perfect view of the field. I have no desire to sit on the home side. The sun is in your eyes and it is packed butt to nut.

I just noticed that the number of posts from posters do not seem to be increasing, any ideas?

Until the schedule came out, there really wasn't that much to talk about. The Big Red threads on the other blogs were also very sparce.
  • FairwoodKing
I would rather have had Baltimore MoJo than Westinghouse. More computer points and a better game.
  • ManO'War
I'm surprised no MoJo...since Reno stated on the news last season that we had them this coming year too.

I guess the schedules didn't jive.

I meant the number of postings under the join date. Mine has been stuck on 289; yours has been on 2238. Others have also been stuck.
No big deal, just thought for a while posts were not being displayed.
    Cheers.
  • FairwoodKing
Let's see if this one is still 2238.
  • FairwoodKing
    No, it moved ahead.

Does anybody want to make any guesses as to week 9? I will guess that it is not Parkersburg South. If we were going to play South, it would have been announced already. I'm guessing Buffalo St. Joe's again.
  • Sykotyk
I hope it's St. Joe's if anyone non-local. Cardinal O'Hara has fallen off since that first game.

Yes, O'Hara played us one good game and then has failed to compete. Actually, I doubt if we will play St. Joe's because we would already have scheduled them by this time.
