Just go away . We dont need to change the way we do things . We are a D-3 school and if we are so weak you wouldnt be trolling on our thread . What I say is my opinions . Your intitled to yours . Why dont you go and talk about whatever football program you represent or atleast tell me what team it is so we can compare notes .fish82;1085768 wrote:You're the one making silly claims about being Top 5 in the state. More often than not, the Top 5 is comprised of D-1 schools.
My team has won a few titles, including a National Title. You don't have to "prove" anything, unless you're going to continue to make stupid claims.
As I just said, X, Moe or Elder would likely travel to Harding without batting an eye. These teams already travel across the state at least once a year...sometimes twice.
I probably won't need to call Coach Sac, as I doubt he's stupid enough to make the claims you're making. -

FairwoodKingGetting back to the schedule, I am guessing that Big Red keeps Buffalo St. Joe's but dumps O'Hara (or O'Hara finally dumps us). We dont make any more money off of O'Hara than we would any other team, and they no longer give us decent computer points.
St. Joe's might also be getting tired of us. Last year they had their best team since 2005, and we still blew them out, even with their star quarterback. Don't be surprised if they're not on the schedule. -
ManO'WarIf I remember correctly Fish's team is New Concord John Glen...and they have never won jack.
BTW, unless you actually attended a school, they are not "your team". -
FairwoodKing
That's not necessarily true. My mother graduated from Mingo but she was a huge Big Red fan. She probably saw more Big Red games than any of you men.ManO'War;1087275 wrote:If I remember correctly Fish's team is New Concord John Glen...and they have never won jack.

LOL...okay. I guess since I've lived in Cincy for 28 years, and my kids/family attend school here, that it's not allowed to be my "team."ManO'War;1087275 wrote:If I remember correctly Fish's team is New Concord John Glen...and they have never won jack.

That might be the stupidest thing I've ever seen you write. -
FairwoodKingGetting back to the schedule, I'm surprised we haven't heard anything about Weeks 1 and 3. Possible opponents are not yet into conference play, so they have to find someone. I'm curious to find out who we will play those weeks.

cannoli137Its months away before the schedule will be released ! Until then, its all hush-hush as always. You better watchout "FairwoodKing", if you give out too much info before its time, well lets just say its hard to swim in the Ohio River with ankle weights on,lol.

I know. Reno just about took my head off once because I gave some info online.cannoli137;1088404 wrote:Its months away before the schedule will be released ! Until then, its all hush-hush as always. My reason for wanting the schedule is because I want to make plans to come home for some games. I don't want to fly home to see us play East Liverpool or a Canadian team (although I do know the words to the Canadian National Anthem). I would also prefer to see games in Harding Stadium instead of on the road. The sooner the schedule is released, the sooner I can make my plans. -

I lived in Florida for 10 years but never considered Shorecrest as "my team".
I bet if JG won a title you would be the first person on the internet tooting their horn. -

So he had a plan in 1984 to move to Cincy and have kids go to school there so that he could jump on their "bandwagon" 28 years later?ManO'War;1088617 wrote:Oh, so youre a bandwagon jumper.

4cards...So can anyone post Big Red's schedule for 2012? Open dates?

ManO'War
He didnt have a plan but if his kids school was going 0-10 every year he wouldnt be claiming them as "his team".Al Bundy;1088633 wrote:So he had a plan in 1984 to move to Cincy and have kids go to school there so that he could jump on their "bandwagon" 28 years later? -

Last i heard weeks 1, 2, 3, 9, and 10 were open...but the only one that knows is Reno and he will release it as soon as all the contracts are signed.4cards;1088638 wrote:...So can anyone post Big Red's schedule for 2012? Open dates? -

Well, I moved to many times over the years and moved to Steubenville eight years ago. No matter where I live, that high school represents my town. My taxes pay for that school. I live in that jurisdiction, therefore, it's 'my team'. And I still follow the school of the towns I have lived in. But, Steubenville is my home now. And barring possible relocation retirement way down the road, I'll probably live the rest of my life in this city. So, Big Red is my team. I'm not Catholic, so I don't generally follow Central other than if I'm bored on a Saturday night and they're at 'home'.ManO'War;1088652 wrote:He didnt have a plan but if his kids school was going 0-10 every year he wouldnt be claiming them as "his team".
I still root for the school I went to in Pennsylvania. But, it's not the same. I 'visit' there. I don't live there. I haven't seen one of their games in eight years and haven't seen a home game in nine. Mostly because my fall schedule just doesn't work out well to be in that area.
But, my love of H.S. Football games goes well beyond any one team. Last year I saw 73 games featuring 134 different teams in 40 different sites in 16 different states. 17 state championship games, 16 other playoff games, and 40 regular season games. 67 11-man games, 3 8-man games, and 3 6-man games.
It's a trade off. But, Steubenville is my home. And hopefully will be the rest of my life. So, they're my team. -

I know alot of people that went other schools and Big Red is now there team . Happy to have all of them too . BTW I also know alot of Big Red graduates that have kids at other schools and those people attend those schools games .ManO'War;1087275 wrote:If I remember correctly Fish's team is New Concord John Glen...and they have never won jack.

ManO'WarAttending games and following one particular school is different from claiming a school you didnt attend as "your team" when trying to make a point in an argument where youre claiming some kind of superiority like Fish did.
I do however often wonder how many of these "Big Red fans" would be there if we went through another decade like the 70s? Probably the same number that shows up for basketball or baseball games. -

I doubt if it would get that bad. We had some sorry coaching staffs/teams in the 70's and yet ticket sales were not too bad. It's only natual that larger followings will gravitate to successful progams.
Then there are the number of athletes in high school football at all levels; shear numbers of family and relatives would dictate larger crowds for football than the other sports. That reasoning mostly applies to public schools; for the most part, private schools have relatively smaller followings in proportion to the division they play in.
Cheers! -

If you say so. I couldn't even tell you what their record was the past 5 years without looking it up.ManO'War;1088617 wrote:Oh, so youre a bandwagon jumper.

My team had a 4-6 season as recently as 2008, and is 30-18 over the past 4 years. They haven't exactly set the world on fire.ManO'War;1088652 wrote:He didnt have a plan but if his kids school was going 0-10 every year he wouldnt be claiming them as "his team".
Uh, go back and read. Thinthick started down the "superiority" road, not moi.ManO'War;1088782 wrote:Attending games and following one particular school is different from claiming a school you didnt attend as "your team" when trying to make a point in an argument where youre claiming some kind of superiority like Fish did.
I went to OU. Am I not allowed to root for the Buckeyes? -

..........first part of question ?? ManO'WarFish, you can root for anyone you like.... i went to YSU but root for the Buckeyes too, but id never say they were my team since i didnt attend the university.
BTW, using any criteria that you like Big Red is an elite team in Ohio history. -
ThinthickbigredHow about if say you went to another school and you live now in Steubenville and your kids go to Big Red . Id say that qualifies you to call Big Red your team especially if your kid is playing

YOUR team has won a National Title? Wow, who did you play in the tournament? With the talent "your team" has aquired over the years, you should have won 10 national titles. Kids from Texas, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio....Etc, etc, etc.
Those schools travel across the state to assemble talent, they may as well stick around and play a game. -
Rocket08Oh, look, the whiny hypocrite found this thread
You know all about getting players from "all around the state" -
