I imagine Fred and Reno contacted every Div. IV school or bigger in Ohio to get a game. Apparently there were no takers. They probably also tried every school in PA, WV, NY, and DC. At least we got a game for that week.

Yah I see teams lining up for "inter" squad scrimmages all the time.

Actually, I guess this almost qualifies for an intersquad scrimmage.

I do not see anyone having an intrasquad scrimmage in week 9 very often...

I wonder if teams who were contacted wanted a 2yr deal. Home and home deal.

Week 9 is difficult to schedule. It is deep in most teams' conference play. And most teams that are any good don't want a long drive just before the playoffs.

One of these days a Canadian team is going to surprise us and we won't be ready for it. I won't want to hear the bitchin' about it then.

Why do they always have to have a "long drive"? LOL

I'm sure Big Red approached every team within an hour's driving distance. There was simply no one else to contact.

So what kind of team does everyone think Big Red is going to have this year? I originally predicted 15-0, but that was before I realized how many good players we have lost in the past several months. Does anybody have any predictions or comments?

I will say 9-1 and a deep playoff run. Basically an average year for BR standards. The only question I have is whether they will get past Mooney.

What team in regular season will beat them?...Getting past Mooney?...Hmmm...

Massillon is the only team that can beat us and that's just because the game will be played at PBTS. I attended the game there in 1966 when the lights went out. To this day I think the place is haunted.

I am not such a homer that I would say 10-0. Massillon at PBTS and Ursuline at Harding will be challenges that could go either way.

It'll be interesting to see how Big Red will look this year since they'll be getting a lot of new players from the new jobs getting made in the valley. I could very well see Massillon beating them, but I'm confident they'll beat Ursuline.

IMO, we got caught kind of flat footed at Massillon in 2010. The Tigers were jacked and we didn't match their intensity most of the game...I don't think that will happen again.

They still could very well beat us, but it won't be for that reason.

Do you know something about the kids coming in?

I'm more concerned about the kids going out. I realize one was burned to death in a house fire, but what about the rest? Why did they leave?

Why be concerned with the ones going out? The ones who stayed are the ones that want to be there. That's what important.

But why don't the other ones want to be there? It sounds like we've lost some good players. I would like to know why they're leaving. There must be something wrong.

And what would you really do with the information if you had it?

Despite what Reno thinks about me, I would not share it on these blogs. I would just like to know for my own personal information.

Nothing wrong with the program, but it is very demanding and it is not for everyone. These are different times from the "good ole days"..a lot more distractions now.
  • FairwoodKing
Yes, Reno runs a tough program. I guess it's not for everyone. It's just a shame that some good players are choosing to abandon the program. We will still have a good team without them.
  • FairwoodKing
Does anyone want to predict what Big Red's record will be? I will predict 8-2 if we can't beat Massillon. Under those circumstances, I also predict we will lose to Mooney. On the other hand, if we beat Massillon, I think we'll go all the way. Does anybody agree with me?
  • ManO'War
    We don't play Mooney.
