Really? Why do you even care?Ohio;949439 wrote:Seemed like when Struthers scored to go up 2 scores everyone from campbell decided to leave and had no faith in the team.
Is it really necessary to take cheap shots like that after the game? Whatever happened to winning with class?
That's bush league... let the kids handle their business on the field, and leave it at that. -
BTrevAnd the Struthers side wasn't exactly standing room only either.

Funny thing... I was talking to Walter Reyes near the sidelines, during the game. I would say that none of the players knew who he was, and probably the majority of the coaches didn't know who he was either. I know he enjoyed it though, and he was very proud of everyone. -

How is that taking a shot at them? I know the real devils fans didn't leave the game... It happens every game when Struthers is losing it was just a statement that occurred from the reference of the devils fans who also complain about the same thingBTrev;949453 wrote:Really? Why do you even care?

Let Campbell worry about their fans leaving the game early then. I don't think it's any concern of ours though, what goes on in their stands.Ohio;949488 wrote:How is that taking a shot at them? Worry more about the Struthers fans that didn't want to go to the game, because they didn't think we had a chance and it was cold. We all know they're out there. Worry more about the Struthers fans that leave the games early when we're losing... I'll admit, I've done it. I'm sure you've done it before, and I'm sure Spread has done it before.
It had already been said a number of times by the Campbell guys that they were disappointed with the attendance. They didn't need any of us to point it out to them. -
sooner1I would have rather lost with young kids playing than that rubbish displayed on the field! It was an embarrassing performance from coaches and players. The O and D lines of Campbell got their rearends kicked!!

Absolutely. I hope the underclassmen have learned from this ugly spectacle of a football game and will conduct themselves as good young men representing the city, school, and themselves next season and beyond. To those of you who had put this team up onto a pedestal before the season began, calling it the best team since 1989, please do not do that again. A good team is judged by how it handles adversity, not by preseason predictions and sheer talent alone. I have been watching Campbell football since the 1970's. I never felt as disgusted as I did last Friday.sooner1;950623 wrote:I would have rather lost with young kids playing than that rubbish displayed on the field! sonnyblackwho has the schedule for next year?
-
BigDean1soony, here is what I was told at one of the gridiron meetings earlier this year. Brookfield is away again next year. Jefferson Area replaces Ashtabula Edgewood on the schedule. Lakeview replaces Mineral Ridge. One of those games vs. Lakeview or Jefferson will be home. The other is away. I don't know if this is the exact order of the games.
Struthers - Away
South Range - Home
Liberty - Home
Brookfield - Away
LaBrae - Home
Jefferson Area - not sure if it's home or away
Champion - Away
Girard - Home
Newton Falls - Away
Lakeview - not sure if it's home or away -
OhioWhat young talent does Campbell have for next season i know losing hughes is going to be a huge loss.
-
oldschoolreddevI couldn't agree with you more Dean. The problem I have with this team is that we are very inconsistent. Against Girard, we played hard. We made mistakes but we played hard. We played like we didn't want to be there against Struthers. The only thing that was consistent was the dumb penalties. But that is what senior leadership is all about, taking the team on your back and fighting until the very end. We believed in our own hype. Struthers said fuck it, we aint backing down. You are gonna have to earn it. We bitched out! I hope the underclassmen remember this feeling so it doesn't happen again.
Another thing I can't stand is all of the coaching the parents do from the stands. If you are such a good coach, then apply. If not talk to your kid after the game. Our kids are always talking to people in the stands.
Also, what is with the personal waterboy we have on the sidelines! I mean can I go down on the sidelines and bring my own special drink for my son? I highly doubt it. The sidelines should be for the coaches, waterboys, team doctors and ball boys. That is it. -

Expected to return: QB - Reyes, RB/LB - C. Smith, WR - Wigfall, WR - Hamilton, OL/DL - McWilson, OL/DL - Burnett, OL/DL - Horvath, OL/DL - D.Kelly, LB- Brown. Keep an eye on O'Dea, Tarver, Shorter, Lyras, R.Kelly, Williams, Michael Hughes. There is a large pool of talent.Ohio;950987 wrote:What young talent does Campbell have for next season i know losing hughes is going to be a huge loss. -
Spread All DayI guess this season goes to show that all the talent in the world can't win you anything unless you have the right attitude.
-
BigDean1
Absolutely. No doubt about it. This Campbell team could have had an undefeated regular season and a good run in the playoffs with the right chemistry and leadership. Coaches can only do so much, especially a head coach who does not work in the Campbell school system. He is only with the kids a few hours a day. Hopefully things will be better next season. Most of the knuckleheads are graduating. Campbell-Struthers is week one next season.Spread All Day;951321 wrote:I guess this season goes to show that all the talent in the world can't win you anything unless you have the right attitude. -
cmhs_prideOldschool amen to alot of your statements. I cannot stand the "waterboy". He's an idiot at grid iron meetings and thinks he's hard a$&. I wonder if he tells his son daddy loves him after he washes his mouth piece out every single time he comes to the sideline with his own personal water bottle. Thing is, I like that kid.
Alot of general statements making the same point. And the point is this, talent alone does not make a team. Regardless of sport or activity in life. Success comes from determination to work together, live together, die together. Simple. This year we did not have a Dennis Williams, Martinez, John Sikora, David Guidos, or Skevo Zembelis. It showed big time trust me.
As for fan support both towns disappoint. They just do. -
Struthers FanBasing my proposal as to their schedule next year is this {using highschoolsportsnet} :
Friday 8/24 Struthers - Away Friday 8/31 South Range - Home Friday 9/7 Liberty - Home Friday 9/14 Jefferson Area - Away Friday 9/21 LaBrae - Home Friday 9/28 Brookfield - Away Friday 10/5 Champion - Away Friday 10/12 Lakeview - Home Friday 10/19 Newton Falls - Away Friday 10/26 Girard - Home
Struthers moved to the first game. South Range, Liberty, Champion and Newton Falls should stay in their usual spot. Highschoolsports.net has Jefferson Area playing CM at JA Falcon Pride on 9/14 and Lakeview coming to Knapic on 10/12. Those two dates also look solid. On the last two I guessed. I see that Brookfield has NF on game 10, so that why I slotted them in week 6, leaving Girard to fill the final game. I'm pretty sure it wll fall this way.
Sure Struthers-Campbell is usually week 10. However there was one year in the late 70's that had the Devis at Stuthers for week one. That one was good and packed. Sort of like a playoff atmosphere. I prefer week 10, but I'm sure there will be a very decent crowd for this "game one" matchup. You would think so.
As for the comments regarding CM going undefeated this year, I predicted they had an awful good chance at it. Personally, the losses at Brookfield and LaBrae were shockers, period. Like the Struthers game, the team with the more talent didn't show up. No intensity, no sense of urgency. No fire whatsoever. It obviously was there against a very talented Girard team. Throw out some bone-head plays and the Girard game wouldn't have been even close.
My 2-cents: They may have been too overconfident going into the three losses. A little cockiness too, may have been a reason they lost the games they did. When they would show up, they were downright dangerous. Girard was a prime example.
Campbell has a nice nucleus coming back next year. They always have the talent. Maybe next year's leaders can learn from previous mistakes/blunders. Leadership was clearly lacking for most of the season. This has to change if Campbell wants to start making some nice runs in the playoffs. It's out there, they can do it.
Best of luck to the Devils next year. Except August 24th.
JMHO, I have the utmost respect for all the Campbell posters on this site. They are classy people who deserved a hell of a lot more that what they got this year. With the talent they have, making the playoffs each year should be a given. Anything less is unacceptable.
Good luck to the Devis in 2012. -

Struthers FanI may be out in CA now, but I have followed the Wildcats since the days of Zetts' undefeated seasons. Maybe a little before your time. I have seen games even through 20 years in the military. I like to come out for 1 or 2 games per year.

Spread All DayI love what I saw from that young wildcat team Friday. Next year should be very intresting. P

Yeah, just a little before my time. How many undefeated seasons did Zetts have at Struthers as the HC? Maybe 1 or 2? Pirone is the one who had the back to back Undefeated MVC Championship teams in '81 and '82. McCann coached the 8-2 MVC Championship team in 1980. That only leaves the 1985 and 1987 teams as possible undefeateds. I know the '87 team hosted a playoff game, and lost to Mooney in the Regional Finals. Mooney went on to win State that year. I think they were upset by Poland though, weren't they? Maybe the 1985 team went undefeated?Struthers Fan;952583 wrote:I may be out in CA now, but I have followed the Wildcats since the days of Zetts' undefeated seasons. Maybe a little before your time. I was definitely around for Zetts's run as HC from 1996-2003 though. None of those teams went undefeated though. The '97 and '98 teams both went 8-2... and the '96 team ran the table in reverse, which may be the only 0-10 team that Struthers has ever had... there's only been a couple if that wasn't the only one. That was the year after "The Year Without Football."
You mean Zetts's years as QB in '67 and '68 though, don't you? I wonder how those teams would've faired if they had the playoffs back then...
Were you around for the SVC Championship team in 1963 at all? My Great Uncle George was the center on the '63 team. He went to Michigan on a football scholarship. He taught Math at the HS for a long time, and he was inducted into the HOF in 2008. -
omemorialhighlets just talk about this...is sikora leaving or what. lots of struthers folk are saying hes coming back but zetts doesnt want it. an extension is on the table for sikora and he hasnt signed it yet...thats proof enough to me that hes unsure about staying.

Rumor is- hes coming home with Zetts, bc he's tired of the attitudes of the kids in Campbell.
