WWEK 10: STRUTHERS (4-5) AT CAMPBELL MEMORIAL (7-2)
-
BTrevOh, alright.
You spelled his name wrong though. Kurt Kuntz. All I could find on him, was that he's an Assistant Coach at the Varsity level at Poland... and that's it. I don't know anything about him. I've never even heard of him before.
I'll have to give my Uncle a call tomorrow, after they make it official. He also coaches in Poland.
Winning breeds winning... and Poland wins. Interesting...
My thoughts from before remain the same... I hope he got the job because he's qualified, he has a vision, and he's a winner... not because he's buddies with the superintendent. -

Now we have a new name. Wait a bit and Jim Tressel's name will be mentioned next week.
Where's the trophy?? -
BTrevIn DC's defense... he never said if he was a Campbell guy or a Struthers guy. He may be from somewhere entirely different.

BuckNut330Campbell kids have no idea what this rivalry is anymore, it's pathetic. They have no heart and could careless..
-
BTrevI guarantee you... Campbell will be ready for Struthers in Week 1 of 2012.
Don't underestimate them, or anyone else. -

Not that team on the field last year. The class of 2010 and 2011 did thoughBuckNut330;1023162 wrote:Campbell kids have no idea what this rivalry is anymore, it's pathetic. They have no heart and could careless.. -
BuckNut330Yeah and the class of 2012 had the most talent. It just goes to show talent doesn't always win games..
-
BTrevHard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard... will beats skill!
-
BuckNut330That's exactly why we won!

reddevil90
I agree with that. And yeas Campbell will be ready with temps in the possible 90's and daylight most of the game. Hold on are we talking about Struthers and Campbell week??? WHO ever thought it was best to move the game to first game is a knucklehead. Campbell games are supposed to be cold dreary muddy. And there is to be no daylight. ewww this sucks talking about it. Well the muddy part can still happen.BTrev;1023447 wrote:Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard... will beats skill! -
Spread All DayAs long as Struthers keeps the trophy, i don't mind.

Wait a minute, and Struthers kids do????? Let me tell you something, Struthers won this year...Campbell won two or three times in a row before that....Struthers a few times in a row before that....but my man let me explain something to you, that dont mean crap in terms of what this rivalry means to either of these schools anymore. Look at the stands buddy. Look hard. I counted about 500 people on each side maybe. There use to be 6 or 7 thousand and then some. Save me that Struthers kids know the rivalry. They are no better than Campbell Memorials pathetic turnout. Both schools have lost the rivalry to a certain extent. Ask Coach Savko if the rivalry is the same. He'll laugh at you, trust me. -
cmhs_prideAnd yes, hard work will beat talent every single time and that is indeed why you won. Dont forget that talent didnt even show up. Which doesnt shock me given that senior class at all.
-
BTrevSince the trophy was brought back in 2004...
Struthers won the first 5 meetings. Campbell won 2 in a row. Then Struthers won this past year.
How does less of a fan turnout in 2011 reflect on the players not understanding what the rivalry meant in the mid 20th Century?
I was in the Struthers locker room before the game. Trust me, it meant the world to them. Hell... the players understood the rivalry better than the coaches did. -

It ALWAYS means the world to Struthers kids. ALWAYS. They NEVER treat it like a joke, 1-8, 8-1 it doesn't matter. It means everything to them. For you to sit here (cmhs) and not understand how pumped those Struthers kids are every year is plain ignorant. Did you watch the game? They not only out played Campbell, they out classed them as well.BTrev;1027870 wrote:Since the trophy was brought back in 2004...

Spread All Dayand when the game is in Struthers, its always packed.
When it's in Campbell... not so much. -

Believe me, this rivalry is nowhere near what it was years ago. And by years ago I mean going back to the 1950's. The rivalry was affected when the steel mills shut down. When the mills were running, men from Campbell and Struthers worked side by side like brothers, except during Campbell-Struthers week. There was plenty of trash talking going on in those mills during that week. The rivalry was also affected in the early 1990's when the two schools stopped playing because of the breakup of the old MVC. Campbell and Struthers did not face each other in football in 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997. The contract was renewed in 1998 and has continued since then.Spread All Day;1028351 wrote:and when the game is in Struthers, its always packed.
When it's in Campbell... not so much.
As far as packing the stadiums, Campbell has lost some of its fan base. Younger families have moved to the suburbs. And instead of coming to a Campbell-Struthers game on a Friday night they stay at home to watch tv, or they go to a Poland or Canfield game because that is where their children are attending school. What's left are maybe 100 or so loyal Campbell fans who still go to the games, retired folks who don't go to the games, and what I call transplanted Campbell occupants, those who were not raised in Campbell but live there now because of low cost housing. Those people just don't care. And the Campbell student body seems to only show up when they want to. When I was among the student body back in the 1970's, we were at the game in their seats an hour before kickoff. Also, Campbell Memorial stadium seats 7,200, excluding standing room. I believe Wildcat Stadium is around about 5,000 at capacity. A difference of 2,000 seats is alot. Of course, I have yet to see Memorial Stadium even filled to half its capacity. It's an outstanding stadium. But I'll eat my hat on the night it is filled to capacity. -
reddevil90There is no way i wont agree that the kids have no clue how the rivalry is to be played. Sorry guys your in a generation that you think you know. But you dont. i have videos up of at least 2 Campbell and struthers games. there is a very big difference.. Campbell and struthers are no place near what the rivalry once was. FACT!! Im not saying anything to raffle feathers. I respect you both. Um sometimes Spread all Day i respect. lol .. But trust someone who knows what it was like in the stands when there was over 6 thousand fans. no elbow room. and the kids took every play hard and serious. there was actually a few times i seen struthers kids help a Campbell player off the ground and one time i seen a Campbell kid tap the helmet to a struthers player as to say nice play or hit. Come one that's not a rivalry. we hate each other during that week. there is no help the other team off the ground. Ah hell its good sportsmanship. but i would never help any player from struthers off the ground. lol Its a rivalry. I seen that and about 20 others even commented around me about how the hell did this rivalry become so tame?
-
Spread All DayIt's not like it used to be. I agree. But it's certainly not dead. And the STRUTHERS kids do care. It's not about what it used to be about, it's about.... Well we know what it's about. Sadly.
-
BTrevI'd rather my team played with class and respect for their opponent, than with blind hatred and a complete disregard for the rules... rivalry game or not.

That same classless attitude still exists in Campbell though!! 3 losses bc of it. It's not how it used to beBTrev;1028710 wrote:I'd rather my team played with class and respect for their opponent, than with blind hatred and a complete disregard for the rules... rivalry game or not.
