WWEK 10: STRUTHERS (4-5) AT CAMPBELL MEMORIAL (7-2)

  • BTrev
I keep reading that Campbell beat themselves, and they should've beat LaBrae and Brookfield. Shoulda, woulda, coulda, I say. Bottom line is, they didn't get the job done.

It is possible to watch Struthers and Brookfield play every week. Go to the BF games on Fridays, and come to the Gridiron Meettings on the following Tuesdays. Besides, Spread didn't say that he's seen every game... he just said that he's seen both teams play a lot... as in, he's very familiar with both teams.

I don't see the similarities though. Stewart is tough... but is it fair to compare him to Ryan Mosora? Struthers doesn't have the size that Brookfield has either... especially at the skill positions. Also... Struthers didn't run much Read Option, even when Kimbrough was the QB. With Muntean at QB, it's a nonfactor. Doesn't Brookfield run a ton of read plays?

Can the 2011 Struthers Wildcats beat the 2011 Campbell Red Devils? I believe so. They'll need to play their best game of the season though...

BTrev, regarding spreadallday's claim that he has seen both Brookfield and Struthers regularly, I suggested that he could be watching one or the other on film each week. Sometimes he seems like a decent guy. But sometimes he will post something about the people of Campbell and the city itself which is in very poor taste. Believe me, Campbell did beat themselves in the two losses that they have. They made mistakes which cost them. They were the better team in both of those games. But the better team does not always win a game. So if you want to put it that way, Campbell did not get the job done. But those games are over and there is nothing that can be done about them. Campbell is in a good position after nine weeks. Struthers would like to change that on Friday.

im sorry but campbell let brookfield get in their head thinking theyre better than they were. we bought the hype. dont do the same thing with struthers. btrev very very intelligent point in discussing the differences. you obvioulsy know alot about football. struthers and brookfield are completely different teams, esp with the new qb at the helm. im going to be honest, i look at the common opponents and the way those games played out...they are very telling. well get their best punch...but i dont know if they even think their best punch is good enough. when you put that memorial jersey on friday...dominate every facet of the game. play with intensity like never before.

Just in case you didn't know i Posted the 1986 Campbell VS Struthers. Enjoy.... If any of you have memories of this game or something you remember leading up to the game share. Cause this game is extreamly important to Campbell getting into the playoffs. And possibly with a little help a home playoff game.

Listen, the game should be a good one. Won't be surprised if it's close until the end. Fact is this.... Whether we lost because of poor decisions or not... We lost. A simple knee wins the Brookfield game.... Didnt happen. They won. Simply keeping our cool in the fourth after taking the lead from Labrae wins the game.... 15 yard penalties later.... Didn't happen. They win. It's over. Like I tell my damn two year old "ALL GONE". We also won seven games, won another title, and have a chance at our third straight playoff appearance and beating our rival. So don't be so shocked that we are feeling good right now after the decade plus that we just endured. No disrespect to Struthers. We just like the position we are in. Now we have to take care of business. Simple. Won't be easy. Not at all.

I expect a hard, competitive game. Struthers isn't going to roll over and give us this game. We need to eliminate the big mistakes like turnovers, penalties, etc. We need to play defensively a whole lit better this week. The special teams needs to step it up a notch because what I am seeing is terrible. Who is the special teams coach anyway? Is it Carney?

oldschoolredev, you know more about football than I do. But I think the defense is playing well at this point of the season, especially the defensive line. Steve Hunt is the special teams coach. We have to play better on special teams.

I agree with OldSchool! I think Campbell's D' and O 'Lines will play a major role in this game. Special teams need to be better prepared because I have a feeling they will get tested various times on Friday night!! They need learn to do their talking with there pads and without their mouth!! Back in the day, where ever we played, there was fear in the air because people knew that the Devils were coming to town and we were taking no prisoners!! But playing in the Struthers game, you knew you were going into a war and if You didn't bring your game, you probably would receive a beating. It is weird that Struthers guys are coaching the Red Devils!!

Don't know coach Hunt. I have heard a lot of great things about him. Got to shore up those special teams coach!
  • omemorialhigh
the only team that can beat us on friday is Campbell Memorial...
  • sonnyblack
Struthers young QB might be running for his life friday night the way Quincy Little has been playing lately, ouch!
  • BigDean1

  • omemorialhigh
seems like alot of campbell faithful are as well...i hope there arent more struthers fans than campbell fans

    Good Luck Red Devils!
  • omemorialhigh
have to give some love to SHS fans...egged our stadium today in the middle of daylight....ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh its good to have this rivalry back!
  • omemorialhigh
also want to give the Struthers administration alot of credit...it takes alot of to contact our head coach in season about coaching your team next year when you have asher still roaming the sidelines. not to mention how poor manners it is considering we play you this week...pretty pathetic. why dont you just tell your own kids we dont think you can beat Campbell with the coach we just hired for you less than a year ago!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it says that at all. Sikora must have really considered leaving Campbell after last year, if Struthers only turned around and offered him the job again this year. If he told them to stick it, I doubt they would've even called him...

It's not like Sikora is gonna cross the sidelines and coach Struthers this week either.

If they have already decided that Asher won't be returning, it has nothing to do with the 2011 Struthers-Campbell game.

It does have to do with 3 straight blowouts from week 6 to week 8, 4 straight losses after a 4-1 start, some ugly wins over some well below average teams, and quite a few red flags concerning off the field issues... not to mention that Asher isn't the long term answer anyway. He'd only be coaching in Struthers for 1, maybe 2, more years.

Wasn't Sikora/Zetts the first option last year anyway? It's not like they'd be getting rid of Asher in favor of someone that they didn't want, or that they had already passed over.

I'd think Sikora would have to be right at the top of potential long term coaches. Who better to get the program straightened out than Mickey Sikora and Gary Zetts?

And yes, I agree with you. It could've waited until after the season.

Having said all of that, I'd be surprised if Coach Sikora leaves Campbell.. If Sikora and/or Zetts want to come back, they have to let them. It makes too much sense not to. I don't think it'll happen though...

You can't blame Struthers for going after sikora. Struthers guy, wanted the job before... It makes sense. That doesn't matter this week. From what I have seen from campbell is a lot of stupid penalties. If you're gonna win this game its going to have to be a clean game. No personal fouls, none of that. Do I believe that Campbell can win? Yes, but the same goes for the wildcats. But how great would it be if sikora did come back to the good side? Haha that would be something

Rain mixed with snow tomorrow, turning colder. Partly sunny and cool on Friday. Dark and cold by nightfall. No precipitation.

mid 30's for gametime now thats football!

I hope Sikora doesn't leave. He has done a wonderful job. Back to back conference titles in his first two years. Having his team in playoff contention. You can't ask for anything more than that. Remember how bad it was under the Ryan era! I hope that we play to our potential Friday night. I hope that Struthers does the same. It is gonna be a great night for football.
