DIVISION 6 STATE CHAMPIONS Norwalk St. Paul def. Delphos St. John's 24-21

RoyalNutWOW! What a game!
Congrats NSP! -
MessyDinosaur
Half time stats were so Lopsided towards NSP. I had a lot of good things to say about Delphos fans, but I hope the rest of them aren't handling this the way you are. Remind you there was a fumble that was clearly downed by a NSP player and 25 took it when they were in the pile. A few big returns is what kept Delphos in the game, second half was a whole new Delphos team though and I was very worried. GREAT TEAM!ladyliberty wrote: not sure the better team won the game. The flyers were very lucky on the fumble that was not called right after delphos scored to go up 21-10. With that being said they made every play from that point on and deserved to win the game.
I will take a picture and text it to you! just PM me and I will go in there as soon as I can and take it. ( of the record sheet in NSP's weight room for the timed 40's)
Ref's did mediocre, missed calls both ways. I think more were in favor of Delphos, but that fumble was huge! Then again NSP recovered one also that if you watch the reply NSP has it with both knees on the ground, and #25 digs it out, credit to him for doing it!
NOW TO THE GOOD STUFF. Congrats Delphos, great season, nothing to be ashamed of! You have some GREAT players, a lot of emotion on that team. Players got geeked up for big hits and nice runs, coming out with that attitude had me very worried, top notch program!
CONGRATULATIONS St.Paul and Coach Livengood!!!! truly amazing drive, Wildes burst of speed to keep 25 outta the end zone was remarkable! Then a phenomenal drive following! One of the best games I have ever seen! -
jmogSorry ladyliberty, but watching the game on TV, the better team won. DSJ was LUCKY to be in the game at halftime.
If not for a big KO return and punt return, DSJ gets blown out...and I am a big "fan" of the MAC, in that I respect that conference a ton.
That was by far the best championship game since the 1996 D6 title game. -
buckfan12nice excuse lady liberty. except defeat gracefully, maybe you should of kicked the field goal instead of going for it. great game played by both teams tonight. congrats flyers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SquirmydogIt will be forever known as "The Drive". What a gutsy performance. I went to the game and was a little worried for the 3rd and most of the 4th quarters. Congrats to both teams and to NSP for their breakthrough season.
-
rookie_j70Way to go Flyers. It is finally our time. John Livengood now has everything!!
-
bigorangebuck22Welcome Flyers, to a very exclusive club!
One of just 4 non-MAC schools to win a D6 playoff game vs. a MAC school
Mogadore ('96 vs. St Henry)
Hardin Northern ('97 vs. St. Henry, '02 vs. MSML, '04 vs. New Bremen)
Columbus Grove ('03 vs. MSML)
St. Paul ('09 vs. DSJ) -
ridgerunner88THE DRIVE, awe inspiring stuff. Great to witness.

always_numba_3we were in our school cafeteria before our jv game huddled around a tv watching "the drive". Schweiterman is a beast of a man.

Congrats to Norwalk St. Paul. I used to live and work in Norwalk for a short time. I saw a #21 named Fries. I worked with a guy named Fries in Norwalk in the mid '80's and I remember he had attended Norwalk St. Paul. His son is #21 maybe? I just remember all the talk about the big rivarly with Monroeville. Anyway, I am a Sylvania Southview dad and we had a drive in the DII 2008 state championship game. Your great drive reminded me of Southview's in 2008. Again congrats to Norwalk St. Paul and your great season.Squirmydog wrote: It will be forever known as "The Drive". What a gutsy performance. gigga41One of the greatest games I've ever been to. Perfect execution on both sides of the ball for that last defensive stop and the march down the field to score the game winner. The adrenaline is still flowing! And it only means this much because St. John's has been so tough to us in the past. Good game by both teams.

That isn't an excuse. Replay showed he wasn't down when the ball came out and it was obvious it was out. It was a big play because DSJ had all the momentum at the time and that changed that dramatically.buckfan12 wrote: nice excuse lady liberty. except defeat gracefully, maybe you should of kicked the field goal instead of going for it. great game played by both teams tonight. congrats flyers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great game by both teams. Norwalk had a great drive and earned it. -
footballfani wanna see what the poster that said this would be the easiest shortest game of all games this weekend has to say now. luckily for dsj, their special teams kept them in the game. if it wasnt for the punt n kickoff returns, the sp second team woulda probably taken a few snaps. i dont think ulm would have been such a target to defend if it werent for the option with #25 in the game-the beast of dsj's team. but hats off to them for getting where they did this year and in the past. but there is no better team in D6 this year then st pauls, and that last defensive stop and 98 yrd drive for the championship proved that. and no other coach/team in d6 deserved a gold trophy more then john livengood and sp. ooo and for those who said dsj is the favorite in all divisions this year... well dang, i guess sp won the fc, MAC, AND DEVISION 1-6!!!!!!! WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT!!

Each team had a fumble not ruled recovered by the opponent.
One team had basically two scores on kick returns (watch the block on the punt return at the vistor’s side to spring the return).
Your post is weak in credibility. -
SonofanumpDivision six was an extremely even division at the top this year:
NSP over DSJ by 3 & Wynford by 7.
DSJ needed overtime over MSML & ADA
Ada only beat Carey by 7.
Wynford was only 9 better than Hopewell who beat McDonald by 4.
MSML only beat Covington by 4 -
RoyalbuckCongratulations to St. Paul on bringing the trophy back to the best region in the state of Ohio in Division VI. I was one Wynford fan out of many that knew both of these region 21 teams could and would compete with the Gods of football and congratulations St. Paul on winning it all.I have tremendous respect for the MAC and its small school sports programs but great programs exist around the state and fact is the best football in DVI was played in region 21 this year. The game is played and won on the field folks. Next year I think everyone will remember that the state championship game will need to be played before the trophy is granted.
I edited this post from an earlier post as I come on somewhat strong. -

your a great fan royalbuck!! even though the score tonight was closer then it shoulda been, i think the sp wynford game was the title game, sorry if that makes a few people mad, but i really think even if wynford played delphos, they woulda beat them also.Royalbuck wrote: Congratulations to St. Paul on bringing the trophy back to the best region in the state of Ohio in Division VI. We heard from fan after fan this week and really for the whole season how this trophy was already in the mighty halls of the MAC. Well folks St. Paul drove that big old bus over there and brought it right back. The coronation never took place did it. I knew this would be a great game and I believed that St, Paul could and would win it. St. Paul had many fans make the same claims before the Wynford game and it darn near bit them in the butt. I don't want to discredit Wynford, MSML, SP, Wynford, Carey , DSJ, or Ada but I believe anyone of those teams could have played in the finals and beat the other. But the Championship game was tonight and both teams earned their spots there!footballfan wrote:

ArnoldGreat finish Flyers for a great group of kids with so much character.
Great game for St John also. St John's is a very tough team that battled even though they were outmached in the speed department. I was surprised that St John won the special team battle, that doesn't happen to St Paul often, well, really never does it happen. St Paul got sucked in twice with overpursuit. I was surprised at that.
The better overall team won this game. St Paul would win this game 9 times outta ten becasue of their quickness and straight ahead speed. For exaple, on the opening touchdown, #8 ran by the St John defense, who had anlges on him.
As for the officials, they did ok, there were some bad calls both ways. Happens in every sinlge game played. You can look at missed calls both ways, sure, but it was evident from the opening drive which team was dominating the game at the line of scrimmage, and, the statistics clearly show it. --more that Double-- the offense in favor of St Paul.
St John's offense scored ---1--- touchdown on St Paul's defense. Thats a fact. Lets hear it for the little guys!!!!!!!!!
Great job by the Flyer D snuffing out St John's option. Absolutely took it away from the start and forced them to change their gameplan. Running the option against St Paul's speed defense was a risky proposition, evidence the two fumbles. # 25 for St John then did a nice job running the ball straight up. Quite the beast.
In the end though, St Paul has some stuff you just can't gameplan for, like trying to catch an angry cat, or a live fish with your bare hands. These guys ar PLAYAS. -
leitz outCongrats to the ST. Paul Flyers 2009 D-6 State Champions! Not quite a MAC title, but we'll take it!

Carey was probably one of those teams that should be on that list too. They held Ada to 3 less scores than what DSJ did.MessyDinosaur wrote:

MessyDinosaurI was thinking to myself a bit ago and wow the way Schweiterman played tonight should definitely help his D-1 recruiting, Not just on offense, but there is a play on D, where he met Leineger(sp?) and and drove him back. I mean that kid was an excellent running back! And to just get haulted and taken back, says a lot about Erics power. I think both those boys and the younger Pohlman are D-1 recruits, maybe even several other Flyers if they really put their hearts to it.
-
ArnoldI would rank St Paul's 2009 opponents like this.
1. DSJ and Wynford in a tie. I think Wynford would give DSJ all they could handle, but DSJ would win in the experience dept, gameplanning, special teams etc...
2.Mogadore, would give anyone else but SP a great game, but not enough speed.
3.Ashland Crestview. Tough run Defense.
4. GCC. A class act, program on the rise. I like rooting for guys like this.
5. Calvert, Monroeville -
underdog32Just a couple of observations from the game and in reply to previous posts:
If these two teams play again, there will be no kickoff returns. Having a kickoff return for a touchdown is apparently the worst thing you can do if you are trying to win the game. All kicks will be fair-caught or kneeled.
I was glad to see St. Paul win the state championship game today. Delphos already won two this year, because from many posts I read, they played a state championship game against Ada and MSML. I wonder if they gave the same trophies out after those games?!?
I was impressed with Delphos' size. Those boys were huge. Leininger was an absolute beast on O. With as many juniors as they have on that team, they have a good shot of playing in the title game next year.
Speed kills. St. Paul had trouble with Delphos' size, but their speed more than made up for it. If there is anyone who still doubts St. Paul's speed, I don't think they watched the game. A good example is the last play on the Flyer's goal line stand when I thought for sure Leininger was going to get in but was run out of bounds.
Sportsmanship. After the game I saw a St. Paul player and a Delphos player talking when most everyone else had left the field. They shook hands and hugged. Both of these teams played their hearts out and showed tremendous respect for each other. These players have provided themselves and us fans with memories that will last a lifetime.
