    PLEASE SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!

"A NASCAR official confirmed the sanctioning body has a meeting scheduled with Volkswagen in January. While Volkswagen competition representative Hans-Joachim Stuck emphatically denied any interest in American stock cars at Homestead one year ago, in a recent interview with Financial Times Deutschland the former racer discussed possibly taking the brand to Formula One and NASCAR. Reports earlier this month confirmed VW wouldn't pursue F1 after all. When VW unveiled its new assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tenn., in September, Dr. Martin Winterkorn, chairman of the board of management at Volkwagen AG, announced to 700-plus dealers from the U.S. and Canada that he aspired to take his brand "to the top of the auto industry by 2018." Certainly, NASCAR's "marketing (platform)" could be the perfect vehicle to accomplish that task. VW holds the distinction of being the largest automaker in Europe. In the U.S., however, recent tallies from October show VW of America only holding a 2.1 market share of cars sold, according to the Wall Street Journal."

Per Jayski's, a couple of changes that will probably be made to the chase next year are going from 12 drivers to 15, and resetting the points when the chase begins AND when they are down to the last 2 or 3 races, and starting in 2012, rotating the tracks that are in the final 10 races.

Hamlin can guarantee a clinch of his first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship is by either finishing second while leading the most laps or winning next Sunday's season finale Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

If Johnson wins and leads the most laps, nothing Hamlin or Harvick can do to win the championship.

If Harvick wins and leads the most laps, Hamlin would have to finish 4th or worse and Johnson would have to finish 7th or worse and Harvick would win the Championship.

I went to New Smyrna last night. It was The Governor's Cup 200. Jimmy Weller of Ohio had fast time, led early, was 4th at halfway. There was a 10 minute competition yellow and thats when gremlins popped in and killed his engine. Damn strange way to go out and a real shame because he was fast. Aaron Pierce came down from Indy for the race, blew a right front and slammed the wall in 1 & 2. Bill France's grandson Ben Kennedy ran top 5 until he got caught up in a 9 car mess in the high banks of turn 3 & 4. His car is prepared by Mark Martin's people and he is pretty good. He has moved his way up in about 5 years to super late models and will be in Nascar before long. Wisconsin's Rebecca Kasten can drive with the best of them, you'll see her name again. 15 year old Stephen Nasse held the lead at halfway and again at 195 when some serious action finished the race. Orlando's Jeff Choquette started 21st and was trailing Nasse by 10 lengths when he tangled with 3rd place bringing a caution and double file restart. Tim Russell spun outside in 1 & 2 racing Nasse and veteran David Rogers for the lead. Nasse spun his tires inside Rogers on the last restart, he caught him but couldn't pass him and David Rogers in the TM Ranch #11 wins again.

2nd, 3rd, and 5th place were DQ'd in post race tech by Ricky Brooks. Two had 58.4 % left side weight (.4 over) and Nasse for the nose shape.

I don't watch NASCAR at all anymore, even though I still occasionally check in on it, but resetting it with 2 or 3 races left and making it 15 drivers is just stupid. When is NASCAR going to realize fans are leaving because of all of stupid rule changes, and making more stupid rule changes won't fix it?

Excellent post Tearnan. Guess what, this isn't 1970 anymore. Shouldn't you be trying to whine about High School kids on the football forum right about now? I think it's quite funny that someone that is such a huge fan of FISHING would have the balls to talk shit about another sport. Lol

I agree. It's very stupid. Making it more 'dramatic' isn't going to do anything. I fully believe it's these damn cars that are driving everyone away. If Johnson doesn't win his 5th today, I think that will help bring some back too.

And the Championship leader goes into the grass. Only lap 25 though. Did some splitter damage, but it looks like they got it fixed. We'll see.

Jeff Gordon..errr..I mean..Jimmie Johnson's crew is AWFUL today! I don't think they've had a good pit stop yet. Lovin' it!
