GoChiefsOl' Rowdy got his rental car stuck in the infield at Indy. Lol Harvick had to pull him out. Pretty funny story.

I grew up about 3 miles from Trail, OH. I brought a ton of cheese and trail bologna back with me to FL as well, good stuff.Speedofsand;430923 wrote:I drove from Akron to Martinsville yesterday, stopped at Yaggi's cheese house in Ohio for Amish cheese and trail bologna, picked up Elizabeth's for dinner. GoChiefsSo what's everyone's thoughts on the 'Elimination' style Chase format NASCAR is throwing around? Latest I heard is it could be something like....
The top 15 drivers are selected
First 5 drivers are eliminated after 4 races
Five drivers eliminated 4 or 5 races after that
Five remaining drivers battle in a winner take all in the final race -
SpeedofsandI don't care for that format. I told them my thoughts when they made the chase. I'd like to think ALL the races matter, so say there are 36 points races, let every team throw out their worst 4,5, or 6 results from any race all year. Say a guy gets caught up in a couple wrecks that are not his fault, or gets injured and misses a race or 2, or has a baby, etc. The best driver/team is going to win the Cup. Nascar doesn't want that, they want attention to compete with football season on tv.
I went to South Boston, Va speedway last night. Twin 75 lap late model races, Lee Pulliam won the first big race, Justin Johnson was way ahead in the other when we left, my back went out and I couldn't hang. Stacy Puryear, Philip Morris, Peyton Sellers, and Deac McCaskill all drove great. Ward Burton's son Jeb hung in the top 10, pretty good for a teenager.
We got a call from someone on a crew saying they had to patch the track in turn 2 at 4:00, they thought the race might be delayed. We ate at Ernie's and hit the track at 6:30. Thankfully the invocation worked. "Lord, please help us deal with this heat and please let the patch on the track hold through the evening..."
In the limiteds late models, 2 guys were rubbing and driving great, then a 3rd car caught up and gave a love tap to 2nd and passed, but that guy turned him in 3&4. They stopped under caution, the one in front threw it in reverse and tried to back over the other guy but was too close to do any damage. Then he brake checked him (still under caution) on the front stretch and the demo derby was on !! They took it around to the back stretch and into the wall, then the officials parked the aggressor for the night. The other guy came out for the second twin 50 race without front body work. Brad and Carl got nothin on these guys. -
ts1227Lots of empty spots in the bleachers when they show them on TV
In terms of that idea for a Chase, I think that it is just too much manufactured drama. All sports have a level of it (the playoffs are an example), but to try to force it down to the end to the extent NASCAR wants to is basically like the NBA, NHL, or MLB rigging their championship series' to go 7 games and into OT/extras every year. You can only force so much to happen before you're messing with it too much and it just seems non-genuine. -
BGFalcons82Felt bad for Montoya today. He had the best car. Probably got a little aggressive on the 4th turn and took out Junior, who had no chance to miss him. At least 18 didn't win...that's all I care about.

GoChiefsFor the day...I am a JPM fan.

Tiger2003I was happy with the 15th place finish today for Denny. If the the Chase started now he would be leading in Points....

ts1227140,000 was the estimated attendance, but in a place that seats 260,000 (400,000 if you count the infield) that is not too hot.
It's small for Indy, but that's about triple the amount that shows up at California for a race. -

Sat in turn one today, looked like was pretty packed from turn 4 to where I was, then a pretty good empty area in the short chute, and mostly full in turn 2. I imagine the seats out in the sun in turn 3/ short chute were pretty empty -
BGFalcons82Interestingly, there were no comments about tires until Montoya came in with a bad set. Looks like ESPN and the staff were under strict orders to not mention tire wear. On the other side, it appears Goodyear came to Indy with a very good tire.

SpeedofsandI went to VIR yesterday, my gf grew up in S.Boston, knows a few people who work there and I got a nice tour. 1500 acres. Really nice facility. Way more than just a race track. http://virnow.com/

DarkonJust seen that Jack Roush was in a plane crash.
He's hurt but they said not life threatening. -
ts1227http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/blog/from_the_marbles/post/Jack-Roush-injured-in-plane-crash-in-Wisconsin?urn=nascar-258616
He walked away from it, but he was bleeding pretty bad when he got off the plane... he's in "serious, but stable" condition and may need some surgery. As Darkon said, nothing is life threatening. There is a link to a picture of him leaving the plane on the above link.
Here's the plane

gerb131Hopefully his stoopid hat fell off. Don't really care for Jack but wish him no harm, hope he makes a full recovery. NASCAR has some bad luck with planes in the last few years.

Speedofsand#39-Ryan Newman and #11-Denny Hamlin were the two Sprint Cup drivers fined by NASCAR for making disparaging comments about the series, multiple sources told ESPN.com. Neither driver could be reached for comment. Newman was fined first and Hamlin second, the sources said. The sources would not confirm which statements made by the drivers were responsible for the fines, but both drivers have been outspoken on several issues.
You can wreck a guy intentionally and risk killing him, other drivers, and fans at Atlanta, and get a slap on the hand. But when you answer a question from the media honestly you get fined $50,000. WTF? -

Tim Richmond Documentary to Air on ESPN in October: Former NASCAR driver Tim Richmond will be the subject of a new film airing on ESPN on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 8:00 pm/et. ESPN Films has announced the fall schedule for its critically acclaimed film series 30 for 30 Presented by Cadillac. The series' remaining films will begin airing Tuesday, Aug. 24, at 8:00 pm on ESPN/ESPN HD, and will air Tuesday nights throughout the fall.
Tim Richmond: To the Limit (Rory Karpf) Natural. Rock star. Outsider. In the 1980s, race car driver Tim Richmond lived his life the way he raced cars wide open. Born into a wealthy family, Richmond was the antithesis of the Southern, blue-collar racers who dominated NASCAR. He also was a flamboyant showman who basked in the attention of the media and fans especially the attention of female admirers. Nevertheless, it was Richmond's on-track performances that ended up drawing comparisons to racing legends. And in 1986, when he won seven NASCAR races and finished third in the Winston Cup series points race, some believed he was on the verge of stardom. But soon his freewheeling lifestyle caught up to him. He unexpectedly withdrew from the NASCAR racing circuit, reportedly suffering from double pneumonia. In reality, the diagnosis was much more dire: He had AIDS. Richmond returned to the track in 1987, but he was gone from the sport by the next year as his health deteriorated. He spent his final days as a recluse, dying on August 13, 1989, at the age of 34. Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Rory Karpf will examine the life and tragic death of one of NASCAR's shooting stars. Select films from the series are available for purchase on iTunes the day following air. Additional films are available for purchase at www.amazon.com/30for30.(ESPN)(7-29-2010) -
Speedofsand#2 won the Pocono truck race. Elliott Sadler driving for Harvick, sponsored by GT Vodka. Greg Sacks owns Grand Touring Vodka, which explains why he drove Junior's 88 Nationwide car at Daytona sponsored by brand new GT Vodka. Elliott was shaking in Victory Lane, said he only slept an hour last night because he knew he had a truck to win and didn't want to screw it up. Pretty good race from what I saw, they punch a big hole in the air and had a lot of passing action.
ARCA race is on now. -

They said they want to be like the other sports... well, if you want a playoff and the last second action, apparently you also have to have a corrupt dictatorship running the front office like NFL and the NBA! -
DarkonKevin Harvick does put together a solid truck program regardless of who is diving.
-
GoChiefsThat's pretty evident, considering Elliot Sadler even drove his truck to victory lane!
