GoChiefs wrote: Started out to be a dull ass race! Man, definitely not your typical Richmond. Kyle Busch had everyone lapped up to 8th position at one point in the race before the caution came out!
That caution was a "debris" caution (read: Robin Pemberton probably went down to the inside wall and chucked a sway bar out onto the track) too... imagine that :D
19 wave arounds got it back to 27 on the lead lap pretty quick!

Even more convenient was it JUST happened to come out RIGHT when Jimmie Johnson went a lap down. Lol

I'd say that was a combination of Hornish and Logano..Hornish was tight..went up towards Logano..then Logano brushed the wall and I'd say probably came back down into Hornish. Come on man, show some love for the Ohio drivers! :p

I think Kyle would have caught Gordon regardless of that caution, but the caution didn't help Gordon any, obviously. Kyle had just cleared Harvick for 2nd when the caution came out, and Gordon was only 3 car lengths ahead of Kyle. Fresh tires make a huge difference at tracks like Richmond.

As usual the TRUCK race is better. Johnny Sauter and Ron Hornaday were fighting for the lead, about 12 to go. RH got loose and slid up into JS and they both went sideways. Johnny's right rear bounced off the wall and straightened him up, RH was slideways for too long and Johnny Sauter won ! Joe Shear Jr. is his crew chief. His dad used to be one of the hot shoes with Sauter's dad Jim, Dick Trickle, Mike Miller, and Robbie Reiser to come down from Wisc. every speedweeks to New Smyrna.
I'll have to find the pics of Sauter and Hornaday they freeze framed on Speed tv. I'm not easily impressed by driving, but damn they both pulled off amazing saves.

He was more then 3 car lengths ahead. Gordon would have won it remember the laps arent very long.
  • GoChiefs
No..I don't think he was much more than 3 or 4 cars lengths ahead...

    About the 0:09 second mark.

And yes..I know the laps aren't very long, Richmond is a 3/4 mile track. Hornish spun out with 11 laps to go. 11 laps at Richmond with 4 fresh tires against old tires is more than enough time to be run down...even if Gordon was, let's say, 6 car lengths ahead. Busch still could have caught him in 11 laps. Not saying that would have been enough to PASS him, but we all know Kyle would have put the bumper to him if need be.

Looks like Kentucky might get a Sprint Cup date now...the legal matter has been resolved.

"The litigation that has stood in the way of Kentucky Speedway getting a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race is over, the track’s one-time chairman said Friday. The news came after a court order was filed in U.S. District Court in Covington in a case related to the federal antitrust lawsuit that has pitted Kentucky Speedway’s former owners against NASCAR and International Speedway Corp. “It’s behind us,” Fort Mitchell developer Jerry Carroll said. “Everything is behind us. The future now has wonderful opportunity at Kentucky Speedway.” There had been a one-day bench trial scheduled for May 7 in U.S. District Court to resolve a dispute between Carroll and one of his founding partners in Kentucky Speedway. The trial was cancelled Friday when lawyers representing both sides informed the court that they settled, according to the court order. The legal action brought against Carroll by four trusts controlled by Dick Duchossois, chairman of The Duchossois Group, challenged whether Carroll had the authority under the ownership group’s operating agreement to control the fate of the antitrust lawsuit. Kentucky Speedway, opened in 2000, is scheduled to host races this season featuring NASCAR’s Nationwide and Camping World Truck series as well as the IZOD IndyCar Series. NASCAR has maintained throughout that it would not consider allowing a Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway until the antitrust lawsuit was resolved and has cited SMI’s involvement as one reason for that stance. SMI has invested millions in infrastructure and cosmetic improvements at Kentucky Speedway. Bruton Smith, the company’s chairman, wants to hold a Sprint Cup race there next year. One option to get a date is to move a Sprint Cup race from one of SMI’s other tracks. The track’s former owners stand to receive a $7.5 million contingency from SMI if a Sprint Cup race is scheduled at the track. Smith was unavailable for comment Friday, a company spokesman said."

I'm glad I went out last night and didn't see any of the Cup race. The trucks in Kansas had a rain delay for 1 1/2 hours today. Just the dual slide by Sauter & Hornaday made it better than anything in Cup. At Talladega, Ricky Carmichael made an amazing save slaloming through the tri oval.

Yes, this Richmond race was the worst one I can remember in a while! Hope the fall race is exciting! It should be considering it's the last race before the Chase starts.
  • GoChiefs
Gotta get my hands on the Kasey Kahne retro diecast from last night's race..that car looked SWEET!

All except that ugly blue oval on the grill. BARF!!!!

DW was drooling at that car in Richmond.
You guys gotta watch the Nascar Hall of Fame shows. Big Bill, Bill Jr., Junior Johnson have been on Speed tv so far leading up to the grand opening. Bill Jr.'s show wasn't so great, but the others are must see. I can't wait to see the show on Petty. Junior is on now and the stories are legendary. I knew he went to prison for moonshine, but never knew the Feds sent him to Chillicothe. Great footage of his first wins at Darlington and Daytona. He tells the story of discovering 'the draft'. He tells his story of him and Ned Jarrett walking away from driving. When Fireball crashed, he was behind their wreck. Junior walked away from owning when he started getting fined big money for being innovative. hehe Now he has a young son racing, that brought him back about 5 years ago. I saw one of Robert's first races on the undercard of the World Finals at the Charlotte Dirt Track a couple years ago.

Nationwide race had lots of action. Denn Knee Hamlin won with a new crew chief. Ky Bush 2nd, McMurray 3rd in Jr's car. Kahne 4th.
Looks like a long painful day for Hamlin getting out of the car in Victory Lane.

Looks like RCR is expecting to sign Harvick by the end of the month. So that will leave him at of any SHR/Hendricks/Kahne/Martin drama.

"Richard Childress expects to have Sprint Cup points leader #29-Kevin Harvick signed to a new deal by the Coca-Cola 600 at the end of the month. "Yeah, we're pretty far down the road," the owner of Richard Childress Racing said of negotiations before Friday's Cup practice at Darlington Raceway. "We've still got to get a few things finalized, but we're looking forward to getting everything done by Charlotte or before Charlotte." Harvick was not immediately available for comment, but did say in a recent radio interview that he hoped to have a deal in place soon. Sponsorship is among the details to be finalized. Shell/Pennzoil announced last month it would leave Harvick after this season and move to the #22 car of Kurt Busch at Penske Racing in 2011. Asked if Budweiser or Mobile I, big-name sponsors whose current deals are up, might be on the list, Childress said, "There are sponsors that are not even in the sport that are interested."

48 is crashed out , 43 AJ Scratchandinger did a fine job.
  • GoChiefs
That was a hard ass hit too! Since he's OK..I love it! LOL Eh..Allmendinger's brake rotors exploded...so..can't really fault him for that one.
  • Speedofsand
I'll bet AJ's ass was puckered up so tight it stretched his Hans belts.
